Staying by Channelside in Tampa
Staying at Channelside area here are my favs:
Sushi - Yoko on MacDill Ave(take Bayshore Blvd to Bay to Bay Blvd, go right on Bay to Bay, and first left on MacDill Ave, about 2 blocks on the right.
Greek - Acropolis in Ybor City - take the streetcar to the 8th Ave/19th Street stop, walk to 7th and 19th Streets. Or take a trip out to Tarpon Springs, many places along the sponge docks(I think a place called Mama's was my fav there)
Mediterranean-Middle Eastern - Byblos - bay to Bay and MacDill Ave
Thai - Thai Thani in the Channelside complex has always been very good and fresh.
Also try Laughing Cat in Ybor(8th and 15th Street) for the BEST Italian in Tampa; Cafe Durain on Harbour Island downtown; Malio's for steaks also downtown.
Christmas Dinner in Tampa
Thanks, so there might be more suggestions...we did the Columbia in Ybor City for Thanksgiving and it was EXCELLENT!! We will also be going to the movies, but the food at Cinebistro is not so great, and it would be nice to have a good meal with some kind of holiday atmosphere or some atmosphere than a dark theater...maybe we will try Thai Thani....any one else for suggestions?
Christmas Dinner in Tampa
Any suggestions? Its new for us this year, since we have always cooked a great meal, but we want someone else to do the cooking and cleaning. Food, Ambiance, Scene, under $30 per person would be ideal.
Thanks in advance!
Hyde park, lunch?
My fav Sunday brunch/lunch places in Hyde Park include Ceviche, Wine Exchange and Restaurant BT
Tampa - Black Friday Wine Lunch
The Grape at Intl Plaza is still open...not sure why you mentioned it was gone....we are going to check out Bernini...Ybor was very busy during the day yesterday, and it was Thanksgiving...nothing like sitting on 7th ave in Ybor on a cool sunny day...people watchin, enjoying fine wine, and good food...for hours!!
Tampa - Black Friday Wine Lunch
Its time for our annual Black Friday Wine Lunch - we drink wine and enjoy good foods at major shopping areas instead of shop each year, and we are looking for suggestions in Tampa. Any suggestions? Must have outdoor seating...in places like Intl Plaza's BayStreet? Hyde Park Village? Ybor City? Westshore Plaza...etc...food, wine atmosphere..any Friday specials...
THanks in advance
Cuban Sandwich in Tampa
The Cuban I recently ate at teh Columbia Cafe along the waterfront at teh Tampa Bay History Center near Channelside was AMAZING!! Perfect even...large could be shared amongst two people, generous helpings of perfectly roasted pork, ham and teh swiss cheese was generously melted....just get pickles and some mayo/mustard slathered on the crisp and toasty cuban bread....if it isnt as delcious as this sounds, then you just dont like Cuban sandwichs....

Thanksgiving Ideas in Tampa
SO the family doesnt want to do the traditional cook at home, etc.. this year. Besides the Columbia(which seems to be somewhat traditional cause of its history and charm in Ybor, and also priced right at $20), any other suggestions in Tampa. Food, Atmosphere, Price(under $30) are the utmost important...this is a FIRST for us on Thanksgiving. THANKS!
Thanksgiving chow in Tampa?
So is the Columbia the way to go this Thankgsgiving? My family is looking to do the meal outside the home this year, food is plus, but so is atmosphere and something under $30 per person. Any other suggestions for a first time dining out in Tampa for T-day??

BRIO Tuscan Grille - Another Macaroni Grille???
What a beautiful place--just too bad my food this evening wasnt as beautiful. Brand new at Internaitonal Plaza's BayStreet, they did a great job renovating the old 'pizza' place that used to be here. Ample outdoor covered dining, white curtains, a nice large bar that extends from inside to outside...HUGE high ceilings, looked very 'Cheesecake Factory" like with a bit of Tuscany thrown in...ok, now onto the food...we were greeted by very friendly hostesses, and the service was imepccable, obviously these servers(very very corporate, chain like, almost like robots, making sure they dont forget to upsell anything, explaining the menu, etc.)..gotta love the corporate chains..ugh!
OK, now the food...started with a 9.95 glass of Savignon Blanc, a seasonla special, excellent...onto the Calamari as an appetizer, fried calamari, with fried pepper slices, with two types of dipping sauces...nothing out of the ordinary, typical. Then the salads(which came out as we were not even half way thru the appetizer-rushed)..chop salad was drenched in dressing and more like 'ripped aprt in small pieces' rather than chopped, tasty dressing, and a typical ceaser salad. And now entrees...the artichoke crusted Beef medallions--served meduim rare there were three 2oz medallions of beef, tender and delicious, and also the Veal Marsalla--a wreck, very overcooked marsalla, the coating on the veal was soggy, and drenched in too much Marsala sauce..it was a tasty sauce, with lots of mushrooms. Each dinner came with a side of roasted potatos(maybe a 1/2 cup), and a very minute amount of vegetables...i couldnt even tell what the veges were, some thin strips of zucchini skins, a few pieces of carrot which were very hard and raw, with skins left on the carrot(to give it a rustic look??), and a slimy red pepper...not good!!!
All this came to about $100.00...way over priced for what we got...so here is how I see this place...they will capture the shoppers at Intl Plaza, tourist flocking to INtl Plaza BayStreet, and after work happy hour at the very cool, and chic bar that opens up to outside...but it seems to me like just another chain, an overpriced Macaroni Grille, although i like the Macaroni Grille more than I did BRIO on this trip.

Date Night Tampa
Looking for some suggesitons(besides my own), my date loves her steaks, but we dont want to break the budget with Berns/Charleys/Malios, etc. We also want to watch the Yankee game afterwards, so someplace walkable for an after dinner drink to watch the game..casual is fine. Here are my thoughts, looking for an OK, or suggestions: food and casual good atmosphere>
Dinner at 717 South on Howard Ave, then walk up Howard Ave to MacDintons or SOHO Pub to watch the Yankee game afterwards.
OR
Dinner at someplace in Intl Plaza Bay Street(suggestions?), then walk to Chammps or Bar Louise to watch the game.
Thoughts? Thank you in advance.
