Pho-Licious - Delicious Pho in Arcadia
I was there last night as well and am heating up my leftovers as I type this. Ate too many shrimp spring rolls and couldn't finish my entree!
Everything was excellent, as usual.
Long Beach breakfast joints, there seem to a plethora of joints in just very few blocks...
I've always enjoyed my breakfasts at the Coffee Cup
Breakfast in Arcadia
if it was me... I'd probably hit Market Grill for lunch and then Merengue for potato balls and pastries to go.
Just a suggestion!
Breakfast in Arcadia
It's my understanding one of Portos bakers defected and helped launch Merengue. Not sure if he is still there but I haven't noticed any change in the menu or quality that would lead me to believe he isn't.
Unexpectedly delicious dessert -
Admittedly I haven't been in a while, but I am a fan of the cheesecake at the Pasadena location. I too was surprised at how good it was.
Help! Chicken noodle soup delivered to Pasadena work place?
If you ever decide to try this again - I highly recommend the Wonton soup from Panda Inn on Foothill Blvd in Pasadena. It has become my new go-to soup when I'm feeling under the weather. I know it's not traditional but I convince myself the chicken broth, fresh spinach, chicken, etc are all working together to cure me.
And they do deliver but might have a minimum order amount (if you need a filler the white chocolate dipped fortune cookies are pretty good)
What's for dinner? SPECIAL TURKEY DAY EDITION! #117 [old]
I would give my left pinky for a piece of that ice cream cake right about now
Mexicali Taco Co is gone
They are looking for a new location and are available for catering in the meantime. Some friends and I are seriously considering planning a party just so we can get our fix.
I hope they are able to find something soon!
Thoughts on the best ice cream places?
Has anyone tried Mother Moo Creamery in Sierra Madre yet? They just opened this weekend

hatch chiles ?
If you were there for the angry lady yelling about someone's daughter cutting in line (that wasn't me, but I was between them!) we were there at the same time.
I agree the back/shady side would have been much more comfortable. But overall the wait was tolerable, the people manning the roasting were very accommodating and the packaging was great.
I made chile verde on Sunday and it was fabulous. I'm now thinking 10lbs might not have been enough!
hatch chiles ?
Roasting just started at Ralph's in Pasadena. Only about 15 people in line
Where to get good old-fashioned WATERMELON?
yep. it was probably only 18 -24 inches but definitely oblong. What surprised me the most was how thin the rind/white was. I hadn't even realized how much I had gotten used to cutting off and trashing almost 1/3 of the store bought melons.
Where to get good old-fashioned WATERMELON?
I got a GREAT one at the Pasadena Farmer's market this past Saturday. I think it might have been from Underwood Farms (closest to the entrance/fish truck/orange sellers). It was smaller but heavy. It was dark green, had seeds, a very thin rind and was sweet and flavorful all the way through
Candy Store Los Angeles
You might try Candy Warehouse in El Segundo. Only catch is their bulk is really bulk - think 10 lb boxes

Discontinued at Trader Joe's (started 6/19/2011) [old]
Look for the vanilla bean paste again around the holidays. It's gone in and out of stock over the years but seems to come back around that time every other year or so.
Top 5 Food Trucks
Top 3 for me
Dogzilla - the only one I will really drive for (and I have to since they are OC-based and I am in the SGV)

Dog Haus in Pasadena
Got a message from Dog Haus today that they have another option:
Starting today, all of our gourmet sausages will now be served on the Savory Butter rolls made by King's Hawaiian. So good!

Wonderful food in places off Chowhound radar? Lynwood, for example.
I know, right? A couple of 20-something friends of mine stumbled in there for the first time for breakfast recently and are now in love with the place - largely due to the amazing welcome they got from the owner and staff but also because of the good home-style food.
That makes me happy, especially since I recall going there with my parents and grandparents waaaay back in the 70's.

WIFES BIRTHDAY...ROMANCE
Agreed, had the tasting menu 3 years ago and still remember it very fondly.Great choice if you want a special, memorable evening
Packing leftovers at the table - Is it just me?
I guess I don't understand how she would get the food into the container without scraping it in? Is your objection just that it was done at the table (since the same thing, or perhaps worse, would have happened had they done it elsewhere)?
I've experienced this method, had food taken to the back and boxed and had containers left so I can do it myself. Personally, I prefer doing it myself so I can choose what to take and what to leave (some thing don't reheat well and aren't worth the trouble) but the other options don't offend me in any way.
Pizza in Arcadia/Monrovia?
You know, I probably slightly prefer the pizza at Di Peppe's over Carmines, we just ended up at Carmine's more often because a family member loved the Gumby.
If I wanted pasta too, or wanted the margherita it's Carmine's. For traditional, garlicky, flavorful pizza it's Di Peppe's.
I know that's not much help but I moved farther north and haven't actually been to either recently enough to give more details on the crust, etc.
Muir Glen Fire Roasted Adobo Tomatoes
Oh, good call. I've been thinking about starting a search for a good tortilla soup recipe.
I'm probably not the best judge because I love some heat in my food but I don't think there's a lot of heat, maybe low to medium?.
Muir Glen Fire Roasted Adobo Tomatoes
Any one else love these? I use them in chili, in spanish rice, in any latin dishes that call for tomatoes.... I usually still need to add additional spices but I love the smoky base they provide and they way they just pick the flavor up a notch over plain tomatoes
I always have then in the cabinet now. Would love to hear other ideas for these or their other versions (green chili, chipotle, etc)
Pizza in Arcadia/Monrovia?
Domenico's is good in Monrovia - although I still prefer the East Pasadena location
I also like Carmine's on Live Oak in Arcadia - especially the Margherita - I ask for it thin crust
Alex Di Peppe's a little farther west on Las Tunas is also good
And, if you find yourself a little farther southwest I like Mama Petrillo's in Temple City

Knife Sharpening - SGV/LB/LA/OC
The Pasadena Farmer's Market (on Saturday mornings) just posted a note on Facebook asking if anyone would be interested in adding knife sharpening to the market. The idea being you would have your knives sharpened while you shop. They didn't provide any details on who or how - but if folks are interested you may want to chime in on their post
City of Duarte???
It is pretty good, I like their salsa bar. And a couple of days a week (Wed? Sun? I forget which) they have $1 tacos

And best wishes to your dad, Chez Coop!
French Vanilla Ice Cream?
