Undersalted restaurant food
What?
If you undersalt food it will taste really, really bad, in general.
I don't wash my fruits/veggies- HELP
Unless you're living in France where they basically serve you your veggies at grocery stores and don't let regular folks pick them out, this really isn't a good idea.
Think of a little kid walking through the store with Mommy. His hand is covered in sticky lollipop and snot. Then he says, look at the pretty red bell pepper. "Me wanna touch," he says. And then you buy it.
Apart from pesticide/dirt reasons, of course.
Condiments: Are they a sign of a cook?
If we're talking A1 sauce, then no, I don't do condiments.
But although I do have a variety of spices and a few different oils, vinegars and basics like soy sauce, I like things simple.
I don't need different kinds of honey or some random German mustard that I'll use once.
Gnocci, how to describe it to someone who's never tried it?
Just make him try them!
THEN he'll see...
"Thanksgiving Dinner" during rest of the year. Do you?
Roasted chicken and veg, sure. But not turkey. I really don't even like turkey. I hate pumpkin pie and honestly, pecan pie doesn't tempt me either.
So no, I don't do this.
Alton almost as silly as Paula
Yes, but in a good way. In an endearing way. I love Alton.
The other day I saw the first two minutes of Paula Deen's show, and she introduced it by showing off her new fake hairpiece, which she called a rat.
do you get crabby when hungry?
I know girls (in like their teens-twenties) that skip lunch or breakfast or both on most days! Maybe in an effort to lose weight? I don't know. Only that I would never survive!
Why am I so thirsty?
Why don't you start drinking water in addition to wine, and more throughout the day? This should solve your problem, I'd think.
Americans on Ice...
I normally drink water without ice, because...
A) I don't like things floating around in my glass, hitting me in the nose
B) it's a matter of taste -- extreme temperatures numb your taste buds. It's the reason why little kids mash their ice cream into soup, then drink it.
gluten free?
Wow, thanks for all of the information. It's good to know.
For people that don't have medical problems like Celiac disease, autism or metal toxicity like lgss described, what is the allure of going gluten-free?
What is your favorite chef worth a year?
That can't be -- that would mean that Paula has at least a smidgen of talent.
gluten free?
Can someone please explain this to me?
I understand that some people are gluten intolerant (what causes this?), but why is it that half the foodie world seems to be touting their edibles as especially gluten-free lately? Do they think that it's healthier to avoid gluten? Or are there just a lot of people that can't have gluten?
Is gluten intolerance something that's always been around, but we've just now come up with a name for it?
Communal Dining
I don't understand why one would have a panic attack when asked to share a table with someone you don't know.
I'd rather sit by myself, or with people I know, of course, but please. Isn't this overreacting a bit?
Tomato recall still in effect?
so if I buy a bunch of tomatoes on the vine, wash them really well and peel them, I should be ok, right?
Mini Cheesecakes: Can I use a Graham Cracker Round instead of a Nilla Wafer?
I agree. plus graham crackers would be REALLY hard to cut into rounds. they'd crumble immediately (unless they were stale, and that'd be no good).
Uses for Champagne besides drinking
I don't drink and I love champagne.
I'd regift it, personally.
you could also reduce it (add some honey) and serve it as a sauce on poached pears or something.
sherry wine vinegar substitution
thanks! I'm making gazpacho.
maybe I'll do a taste test and try a little of the red wine and white vs. red wine, etc.
sherry wine vinegar substitution
could I substitute another kind of vinegar for sherry wine without any major ill effects? I don't really mind if it tastes differently.
any suggestions on which kind to use? I have red wine, balsamic, rice, apple, etc.
Title: Which foods are high in protein
do you mean regular *sweetened* yogurt? because I'm sure plain regular low fat yogurt is just as good for you as fage, just with a different texture.
Quick--vegan italian main dish recipes needed
Maybe some sort of pasta dish with chickpeas, tomatoes & zucchini? Serve parmesan on the side. And some sort of soup that has beans in it, maybe a vegetarian minestrone?
For dessert, something simple if you're not familiar with vegan baking (it's an acquired taste).
Mango Salsa?
cilantro and mango is an obvious combination but I'm thinking that mint would be really nice, too. I also like analisas_mom's cucumber idea. nice and cool flavors to go with the grilled flavor of the fish.
How do you eat so well and control your weight?
I just eat small small amounts at mealtimes only. also I drink a lot of water, tea etc., when I'm craving something. most of the time I'm not really hungry anyways, but thirsty.
I also run.
"Apple Fries" rant
I don't think they're fried or even baked (the latter of which is delicious with a little cinnamon, actually). Just cut up into matchsticks.
Menu for Food Snobs
Les hamburgers avec le fromage bleu sur le pain complet.
=Hamburgers with bleu on whole wheat
I *think*
Ramsey vs. Colicchio??
I agree! Tom would make me feel ashamed of myself and Ramsey would just make me angry.
I'd like to try both of their cooking -- I am going to one of Ramsey's restaurants in the near future. He won't be cooking, of course, but I'm still looking forward to it.
Changing school lunch food
I have a little story to tell.
years ago, when I was in the fifth grade, my friends and I had the same thoughts as you. we hated school lunch food, and had it in our minds that we wanted to "stick it to the man". we organized a sit-in (after lunch), collected signatures for a petition, and essentially protested. we eventually were able to arrange a meeting with the food service that our school used (sodexho, like your child's school's), and had a little chat with the school principal, lunch ladies and some sort of sodexho representative (I think a manager). we got the menus changed, at least with different choices. we felt like we'd changed the world, made a difference. we were so proud.
anyways, that's my little story, and its purpose was to let you know that it CAN be done.
But is it CHEESE?
it still kind of worries me that products with only 51-99% cheese can still by called cheese.
Authentic-What Does It Mean To You?
I honestly don't care if things are "authentic". I mean, if you're visiting somewhere, it's nice to eat food that's traditional there, but as long as it tastes good, authenticity doesn't really matter to me.
