We went yesterday. They were doing a soft opening. The service as very good. They are trying hard to bring you back. The food was good; but the prices are a little high( specially the fajitas).

Vegetarian friend coming to town

Jezebel's burned down a while ago and Shorelin Grill is closing on the January 31st.

Maoz coming to Triangle

I went yesterday. The food was good and I liked the choices of how to dress it. The prices are a little high in comparison with other places like Sarah's, Tom Taboulis and Phoenicia.

Cuban in Austin?

Try the Cuban Sandwich Cafe on 1804 Briarcliff Blvd. It is a small cuban restaurant previously reviewed here. Good people and pretty good food.

Searching Austin's best reuben sandwich

Everybody has their opinion. My favorite is the pastrami reuben from NeWorlDeli. Try it and see if you like it.

Anyone finding HOT Hatch chiles around town?

Got some at Whole Foods last week; very hot and cheap.

Chago's

We went today. My wife had the chicken fricasse and said it was quite good. My oldest daughter had the steak with onions( biftec encebollado) and liked it a lot. I had the mofongo ( smash plantain) with shrimp on the side and thought it was as good as the one I make. Prices are reasonable. The only shortcoming was their beer selection: it could use some local flavor. We will be back in the weekend to try the " sancocho" ( caribbean stew with lots of meats and vegetables.

Where to watch

There is a new place on east Riverside called the Draft Pick. Just opened this past week. Went yesterday and found it to be very nice.

Simplicity Wine Bar (Owned by Restaurant Jezebel???)

We went about a month ago on Paella sunday. The paella was very good; the tapas were very bland. Would only go for the Paella.

Gloria's Restaurant in The Domain Is Open

Happy to hear they finally opened. I used to go to the original restaurant located in the Oak Cliff part of Dallas. This location will be much more upscale than the original; but the food should be as good as I remember it.. I recommend you try the Gloria's special to get an idea of the main salvadoran staples.

Simplicity wines on Burnet Rd

We went 2 weeks ago for their Paella and Sangria sunday special. The paella was pretty good; but the Tapas were not. Plus their idea of serving in paper plates and using ice cream wooden spoons for eating them is not good. Has anybody else tried this place? What do you think about it?

Vegetarian Austin

Mr Natural on Cesar Chavez or South Lamar for Mexican vegetarian food.

TAKE TO THE STREETS THEY'RE CHARGING FOR CHIPS AND SALSA

I second TaseT on this topic. You pay for chips through your entrees or upfront. Nothing is free in this world.

Tamales LEO

It's probably Tamaleo. They used to have a restaurant going towards Bastrop. I think it closed. They sell the tamales, on saturday at the Downtown and Sunset Valley Farmers Markets .

Cafe Josie

The times we have been there were very enjoyable. Unfortunately it has been more than 6 years. They must be doing something good to still be in business. Will make a point to go again in the near future.

Austin must have meals?

For breakfast try Magnolia Cafe or Kerby Lane. For lunch try Ruby's BBQ on Guadalupe. For dinner try South Congress Cafe.

Tacos, Migas, and Tex-Mex: Help Me ID These Restaurants

Everybody has their favorite places. Doesn't means one is better than the other. For me a big mexican breakfast you go to Polvos. To eat tacos you go to El Meson or Changos. For other mexican you go to Curras, Sazon, Polvos or El Caribe.

Best Corn Tortillas?

In my opinion the best store corn tortillas in Austin are at El Milagro. From the restaurants that make their own my favorites are Chango's, El Meson and Curras makes a pretty good red corn tortilla.

South Congress Cafe

Glad you liked it. In the same area I recommend Enoteca Vespaio for italian food. Also for interior mexican food drive to Curra's Grill on Oltorf; not too far from that area.

Best Pizza in Austin?

Here is a vote for Tony C's at the Hill Country Galleria. Great crust and very good sausage. The sauce could be a little more spicy; but hopefully they will improve on that.

Best Tacos Al Pastor in Austin

The best tacos al pastor in Austin are at Curra's Grill. Order the al pastor plate with red corn tortillas and black beans. They come with a Avocado sauce. Yummy!!

Cantina Laredo Report

Use to go to Cantina Laredo in Addison before we move to Austin 14 years ago. Their food is not as good as what we use to get at that time. The couple of times we went it was ok but overpriced.

Hard Hat Report

No. Out of business completely.

Made it to Austin! Need to revamp my list!

Try Curra's on Oltorf for interior mexican food. Also Sazon on south Lamar is pretty good.
