Dinner near Newseum

My wife and I are making a last minute visit tomorrow to the Newseum from Baltimore. We plan to take Metro in from Greenbelt.
We're looking to have an early (and reasonably priced) dinner near there so we can take the Metro back out. We're open to any kind of cuisine. Thanks for, your quick response.

Quiet dinners in Baltimore?

Thanks for that suggestion, maceda. BYOB isn't a terrible drawback for us. We're happy to bring our own wine and save a few bucks.

Haven't tried it yet, hon, and the food sounds terrific and interesting. Thanks for the suggestions.

Quiet dinners in Baltimore?

Thanks for your suggestions. One of the criteria for our choice of dining establishments is that we try a place none of us has been to before. Since we've all been around Baltimore for35-40 years, that limits us somewhat. I think I'll suggest we expand to include places that have changed hands or we haven't been for at least 8-10 years.

We liked Alchemy very much. I don't remember what we all had because it was several months ago, but I do recall that the house-smoked fish appetizer , mojito mussels, and lamb chops were all memorable. We've only been once so I can't vouch for consistency, but all of us are good cooks and foodies and we all liked it very much.

OOPS! Should have been "without yelling across the table"

Quiet dinners in Baltimore?

With another couple, my wife and I have embarked on a series of monthly dinners at restaurants none of us has been to before. Good food and conversation among good friends is our objective. To that end, we've had mixed success in our first three months. Alchemy and Feast at 4 East were very enjoyable, and we'd go back to both; Lebanese Taverna was a failure in that conversation was impossible (one of my friends has some hearing loss.)

Where might we go in Baltimore and surrounding area to enjoy good food and company with yelling across the table?

Where in Baltimore / DC can you get good SHORT RIBS?

The Dogwood in Baltimore has terrific short ribs.

Maggie's or Mache Bistro in Bar Harbor?

Thank you for the succinct, yet enlightening posts.

Maggie's or Mache Bistro in Bar Harbor?

Any recent experiences at either of these two? We'll be there Aug. 1-2. Trying to decide which one to go to. Thanks.

Where should we eat in Boothbay Harbor?

We were in Booth Bay Harbor last summer. There are several lobster places, but I can't recall the name of the one we ate at.
For decent, inexpensive fare I can recommend Happy Hour at the Thistle Inn. From 5 to 6 (I think) all drinks and appetizers were half-price.That included top-shelf brands and wines. The appetizers were very good:oysters, seared tuna, a pizza, salads. It was a great deal. I'd check first on the time and what's available this year.

MDI recs?

Thanks for the Cleonice suggestion. I hadn't thought of Ellsworth. Blue Hill is a little too far for us at night, but Table looks nice, too.

MDI recs?

Thanks for those suggestions, thehungrything; they both sound good. Does anyone have an opinion about Maggie's in BH?

MDI recs?

My wife and I will be spending 5 nights on MDI at the end of July -three in SW Harbor and two in Bar Harbor. We'll be staying in B&B's, so breakfasts will be taken care of. Lunch will be on the run, so we just need dinner recs.

In SW Harbor we like Red Sky. What else is good these days? (I was disappointed in Fiddlers Green last year)

In BH, we've liked Cafe This Way and Galyn's. What else is good? I'm curious about Maggie's as a locals place, as we tend to trust locals for value. We try to avoid the tourist places if we can.

Thanks for your insights and recommendations.

Best Baltimore Scrapple

The best I've ever had in Baltimore is Heil's, which may still be made in Hampden (not sure about that.) I buy it at Fenwick's butcher stall in Cross St. Market. Can't get more Baltimore than that. They cut it out of a 5 lb. loaf pan. It's a little spicier than RAPA. Definitely worth trying.

Portland recs?

Thanks for your replies. We've made reservations at Fore Street, Hugo's and Bresca. I will try to report back at the conclusion of our trip.

Boothbay Harbor, Northeast Harbor recs?

Thanks for the warning. We weren't expecting it to be a dining destination, but are looking for recommendations that are accessible for an evening. We're just staying there for three nights, but are happy to drive for dinner.

Boothbay Harbor, Northeast Harbor recs?

Thank you, Mainegal. I've looked at your posts in other threads and I was hoping you would respond to this one.

Boothbay Harbor, Northeast Harbor recs?

Thanks for those suggestions. Being from Baltimore, we probably won't be tempted to have crabcakes. :)

Boothbay Harbor, Northeast Harbor recs?

My wife and I will be staying two nights near Boothbay and three in Northeast Harbor. I searched the board, but can't find current recommendations (or places to avoid). Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Portland recs?

Thanks for the feedback. We're making reservations early so we don't get shut out from our top choices.

Portland recs?

My wife and I (from Baltimore) will be visiting Portland on July 28-29 and on Aug.6 .We're looking to reserve now for some nice dinners. A few years ago we went to Street & Co. and enjoyed it very much. Is that still a good choice?

I've noted recommendations on this board for Hugo, Bresca, 555, Fore Street. Would I not go wrong with any of these? What else would you recommend? We're open to any style of cuisine. What's good currently? Thanks for your help.

Deep Creek Lake recs?

Reasonable Size Baking Potatoes (where to buy?)

I always bake extra potatoes to do something else with.
You could bake one large, eat half, then save the other half to dice up for home fries later in the week. shred the leftover half with a little cheese and scallion, form into a cake, and cook it slowly in a little butter to give it a nice crust. Lots of possibilities with half a potato. Have fun.

Ba-Tempte Mustard where to get it in Maryland

I see it at Wegman's in Hunt Valley off and on. There must be some supply problem. It's found in a refrigerated kosher foods endcap when they have it.

Need range hood advice

We're planning a kitchen remodel and I'm baffled by the choices of range hoods out there. I've done some research and I know that I need about about 600 cfm in a size to cover a 30" gas range. It's a wall mount on an outside wall, but could be undercabinet if it can do the job.How high should it be from the cooktop surface?

I'm looking for something quiet, easy to clean, and hopefully under $1000. Can anyone offer suggestions or relate experiences, good and bad? Thanks.

Schuler cabinets from Lowes or Medallion cabinets?

Thanks for your helpful comments, degmat. We've now found similar quality cabinets from Omega Dynasty through a local dealer for about 5k less than the Lowes price. And the local company will store the cabinets until delivery is needed at no additional cost. It looks like Lowes loses.

Schuler cabinets from Lowes or Medallion cabinets?

We are about to start a kitchen renovation project and found some Schuler cabinets at Lowe's that are in our price range. They are the Lowe's version of Medallion cabinets. They looked like good value to me, but I wondered if anyone here has had experience with either brand? Thanks.

Lobster roll in Baltimore

Just wondering...why in the world would anyone be looking for a lobster roll in Baltimore?
