I have an addiction to the food at Henry's Hunan. There's several around the city. The one at Sansome and Broadway would probably be the closest to where you're staying.

I like TJ's bacon. But today I noticed something odd about how it's packaged. They lay a meaty piece on the side that shows the most fat. By the pattern, you can tell it comes from a completely different batch. Check it out.

Eat Real Festival 2011
I went late Friday afternoon figuring I'd miss the crowds. It was still pretty crowded. The Nicaraguan place had the longest line by far. A lot of the venders had not arrived or were just setting up. That was disappointing since the hours were advertised as starting at one o'clock. Many of the venders were "the usual suspects" that show at other fairs. I really wanted to try The Whole Beast's stuff but it wasn't ready. I noticed the guy kept jabbing thermometers in the food and looking unhappy.

Fresh & Easy stores - when will they open?
I don't get it. F and E has been open in LA for a year or so and I don't see where all the excitement comes from. It's NOT another Trader Joes! The prices aren't that great and the quality is not any better than your average grocery store. I was VERY underwhelmed.

About a mile and a half to the west is The Apple Pan. (Being from New York you'll enjoy the walk.) Great burgers, fries and pie. Ask for well done on the fries if you like that. Here are the rules...stand back against the windows and wait until everyone who was there when you came in is seated. If you are by yourself, you may be able to grab a single seat sooner.

Make sure you check the ingredients. Last time I bought a bottle of Mexican Coke® it had corn syrup instead of sugar. Yecchh!

I ordered mine well done but they came out of the same batch of fries that everyone else was getting.

While I was waiting for my meal to be prepared, I was entertaining myself by watching the fry cutter device in action. Nice long fresh fries. But then I noticed the order of fries I received. They seem to be half the length and many of them are just ends. Sure they taste good but some of them are too small to even pick up. What happened? One theory is that somewhere between the cutting and the frying they are whisked away and sold to high end Beverly Hills steak houses. Then they are replaced with the same precut fries that Islands uses. (They have the same small fry problem)
