Best Neighborhoods to Eat Shop and Live in Pittsburgh
We moved to Shadyside when we were first married and have stayed ever since. It is a great mix of students, professionals, and families.
One day in Paris with Kids
We are taking the Eurostar to Paris for the day with kids (ages 8 and 11 but foodies). Where should we go? We will be doing the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and Sainte Chapelle so restaurants near these would be appreciated. Thanks!
Red Room Closed
Anyone know what happened to the Red Room? The PPG said they closed.
Anything new in Sanibel/Fort Myers?
My family of 4 is staying at the Sanibel Harbour Resort for 4 days next week. Any new restaurants we should try? We always like the Courtside Steakhouse but never have any luck when we head toward Fort Myers. On Sanibel, we always end up at Doc Fords. We eat sushi, mexican, seafood, etc... not picky eaters.
Thanks!
What are you eating in Pittsburgh?
We've been to a few good places the last month:
Tessaros
Typhoon
Cafe Zinho
R2 (the other Red Room) - they are back to their old menu
Shady Grove (great now that is is non-smoking)
Big Mamas
Girasole
Enrico's
Really want to try Legume, Mio, Smiling Banana Leaf
Red Room 2 - New Chef
We had a similar experience. Thought the decor was great but the food was only okay and really expensive! I thought the new menu was too funky, not tasty, and with tiny portions. The old Red Room menu was great and the portions were generous - especially for the price. After spending $120 for some apps and splitting an entree, we went home and had cereal! I was very disappointed.
Richard Chen - Pittsburgh
We had dinner at Girasole and drinks at the Red Room. We always like sitting on the couches there - it is very relaxing. We have not tried the new menu (since new chef) but it seems to be well received. We did see the new menu for R2 and it looks good. R2 is scheduled to open in two weeks which will be a nice addition to the block.
Sounds like Richard Chen is worth a try.... will report back.
Richard Chen - Pittsburgh
We walked in on Sat night but it was too crowded and there is just a tiny bar so we went across the street to the Red Room.
We had some friends who went this weekend and said it was comparable to take-out chinese (except the rib-eye which was excellent), the lighting was way too bright ("like a high school cafeteria"), and super expensive.
Anyone go there this weekend?
Week in Pittsburgh, No Car
There are some good restaurants where you can eat at the bar. Dish and Bruschetta's both have nice bars where you could eat alone.
New Chef at the Red Room - Pgh
From todays Pgh Post Gazette - the chef from Alchemy is going to the chef at the Red Room Cafe. The new chef is completely redoing the RR's old menu (which I loved). Curious to see if people think this is a good thing or not...
