Best Biryani???
The best I have had in NYC is from southern spice out in queens. 143-06 45th Ave flushing. It is a great consistent place and the owner is just an all around nice Guy.
In Manhattan I like a little hole in the wall place downtown, Sangam. At 190 bleecker St.
Chinese Mirch (UES)
The original location is one of my favorite places to eat. The UES location, though only a few blocks from our apartment was several steps down IMHO. It is too bad they wont have the time to correct that!
Una Pizza Napoletana Has Closed
I remember the first time I went there, I though $15 for a pizza was crazy until I tasted it and loved it.
I remember the last time I went there and decided that even though I loved it, $21 was too much.
I will be sad to see it go though, I hope Motorino can live up to UPN and do it at a more reasonable price!
Last min cupcake delivery - Sugar Sweet Sunshine
The people there are great! Personally, I really like their cupcakes and cakes!
defonte's coming to nyc?
I just got back. Met my girlfriend there for lunch.
I dont know if it is just the amazing reputation this place has, or if they were just working out the kinks, but I was pretty disappointed.
It was a nice location, clean and had a big friendly staff. Unfortunately they must need a little more practice. The phone was ringing until the callers just gave up because no one could figure out who was to be answering it. My girlfriends sandwich got lost somehow between us ordering, me paying and them making it. They finally found it tucked next to the register.
For the important part, the food: Decent. But not great.
I ordered the Fresh Mozz. sandwich. It was entirely average. Generic sesame roll. 5 layers of average quality fresh mozz. (to me, it doesnt seem handmade on location) one layer thinly sliced tomato and some basil. (what little of it there was tasted like good quality)
She had the hot turkey. Everything looked fresh but the construction was just out of control. Turkey and cheese was hanging over the edges like something out of the flintstones. She also found her's to be very bland and average tasting.
I enclosed a picture of mine, what is left of hers went back to work with her so I cant show that. Note the 5 layers of Mozz. to one of tomato. I realize it is called a fresh mozz. sandwich for a reason, but biting into an inch thick stack of cheese isnt the most pleasant thing. I expected the other ingredients to contribute more.
I really wanted to be blown away here, but I just wasnt very impressed. It honestly tasted like something from the window of your corner deli. Not bad, but not the god like sandwich it is built up to be.

Saluggi's Pizza
No I dont. Sorry.
Their number is 212-226-7900 if you want to ask them though!
Saluggi's Pizza
Had a late lunch here yesterday. 2 slices and a soda for $6.50.
Pizza was pretty good, nice flavor to the sauce and crust. Cheese could have been better, tasted like cheap Mozz and was very greasy. The char on the bottom of the slice was very uniform and it was a very crispy slice. Probably because they have a gas oven there.
- Fresh Basil: Yes!
- Wine: Yes!
The place was clearly brand new, they were still talking about how to decorate when I was there tuesday. It is an odd hybrid of counter service and table service, I went to the counter to order but then a waitress came up to seat me and brought me my slices. I am not used to that in a pizza joint!
I will probably go back, it is clearly the best in the area even if it has a long way to go to be the best overall.
Leela's Lounge
Or go there and give Diego (the bartender) a good tip! He is a nice guy! :)
They have very good lunch and dinner as well!
Best non-Italian, non-pizza lunch in East Village?
Sangam, great rolls and biryani.

Where to eat in Upper East Side
Maz Mezcal is a great mexican place on 86th between 1st and 2nd.
Una Pizza Napoletana - disappointing ...
It makes me sad to say it, but I think I am in the same boat. I remember eating here (when it was $16 a pie :) ) and being absolutely blown away by the quality and just how different it was from the rest of the pizza in the city. Over the years I have continued to love it and recommend it as the best pizza experience in the city.
But the price just keeps going up and I feel like the general quality has gone down. If his rent is that bad he should find a new location. If he were less pressured by his rent maybe he could take the time to make sure every pie is at the level it was when he opened.
As it stands, it is no longer in my rotation of places I eat despite all the fond memories I have of the amazing pizzas I have had there.
Milon vs. Pana II Garden Indian Restaurant -- which is better??
Madras cafe is close and much better then either one of those.

Kosher on the Upper East Side
Va Bene was a bit disapointing for me. I though the food was mediocre and the prices outrageous for what it was.
Rectangles is pretty good though. The food is tasty and the prices are high, but not outrageous. Service can be inconsistent there, you need to be assertive and outgoing to get good service in my experience.
I will have to keep some of these other places in mind, a few of our friend keep kosher and it is always a pain to include them when we go out to eat. More choices help.
moderately priced restaurant in Chelsea or West Village
Malatesta. Cheap. Cute. Decent wine. Great food. Great location near the river.

Best place to buy a cheap pressure cooker in Manhattan?
Head to 28th and Lex. there are numerous little Indian stores that have groceries, foodstuffs and cooking equipment.
I think Kalyustan's has some on the second floor. I would go there first and try the other local shops if they let you down.
Great Italian in West Village
Easy. On most nights with two people just walk up and you will have one in 5 minutes max even when it is busy. Larger groups or people coming at a prime time should make a res though.
Review: Dimple (the "interim Vatan")
There are a lot of good indian places with veg options. In Manhattan I have been to and like: Madras Cafe, Tiffin Walla, Chennai Gardens, Saravanaas, Sukhadia India Pavilion (on 45th), Minar, Chola.
Real Italian pizza in Manhattan?
Una Pizza Napolepana or La Pizza Fresca come to mind. They both make pizza in the Naples style. Both are excellent, though I believe Una Pizza is closed while the proprietor is on his yearly Italian vacation.
Malatesta at West Village: Casual, Simple and Good.
It is one of my very favorite restaurants. Cheap, great pasta and a nice decor in a cute neighborhood.
Looking for good but not pricey pasta
Malatesta is awesome (christopher and washington)! Il Corallo Trattoria (on prince near thompson) is great.
Is Mamoun's open yet?
Taim is a lot better.

Looking for Best Italian in NYC
I absolutely love Malatesta (corner of Washington and Christopher St) for great, simple Italian food. It is cheap, consistent, charming and delicious.
Recco for quiet drink in Washington Sq./NYU area?
Walk over to Broadway and West 3rd. Leela Lounge is a nice, quiet bar. They have seating for lunch and dinner, a bar and a lounge area with couches. They serve excellent Indian inspired cocktails and have a nice quiet vibe, perfect for conversations.

They might be one of the best places in the city that serves by the slice. You are making me want to go now and I have dinner plans! It is only a few stops away on the 6 too... :)

You are completely right. Lombardis has gotten much worse. They arnt at the same level as Una Pizza, Grimaldi's et al any more.
