Seeking Restaurant very close to Film Forum

We ended up at Grand Sichuan. We all were happy with what we had. Nothing spectacular, but perfectly good Chinese food.
Thanks to all who responded-- your replies were very helpful.

Seeking Restaurant very close to Film Forum

Thanks again for your suggestons. Ditch Plains got some discouraging reviews elsewhere, and I'm not really a big seafood lover. Snack Taverna looks very appealing. And while it's not cheap, it seems to have a decent selection of affordable options.

Thanks for these suggestions. Fatty 'Cue sounds very appealing to me, but unfortunately, it seems to be closed on Sundays between 3:30 and 5, which is probably just when we'd want to be there. The same is true for King, and the Thai place doesn't seem to be open at all on Sunday. (I consulted Yelp & menupages.) I realize 3 or 3:30 is an odd time to eat, but that's our schedule.

Looking up older posts, I found references to Bar Pitti and Grand Sechuan 7th. Any opinions on those? Any other possibilities?

Seeking Restaurant very close to Film Forum

We're going to a movie at the Film Forum (Houston St. betw. 6 Ave. & Varick) tomorrow (Sunday) and will want to eat a meal afterwards-- around 3 or 3:30. Since it will probably be raining hard, we want a place very close by. I like 'nino, but it's really too small and cramped for the 4 of us. American or ethnic food is fine (Chinese, Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern, Mexican, etc.), but we don't want an expensive restaurant. (Not much more than $25. p.p., before tax & tip.) Preferably a place that's not too loud so we can chat without shouting. One of us is a vegetarian, but he does eat fish and other seafood.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

Restaurant near W. 71 St.?

Thank you all for your comments. We went to Cafe Ronda (my husband is very fond of tapas), and it worked out quite well. I liked my empanadas and our salad (plenty for 3) very much. The others liked their tapas (mussels & squid). The desserts we had were just O.K. It was not crowded since we arrived shortly after 4, and it wasn't loud at all. We had a nice table for 4 near the back and had no trouble chatting. They had an "early dinner" menu that was more limited that the usual dinner menu (though with the same prices as dinner), but that was not a problem for us. It was a bit pricier than our usual dinners, but not terribly expensive. We felt we would go back.

Restaurant near W. 71 St.?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I remember going to Nanoosh once years ago, and I wasn't crazy about it. And it's not the sort of place we'd want to linger. I didn't know about the Indie cafe or the others mentioned. Any hounds have opinions on any of these three: Indie Food and Wine, Bello Giardino or Cafe Ronda?
Thanks again.

Restaurant near W. 71 St.?

We're going to a matinee this Saturday on W. 71 St. (betw. Broadway & Columbus), and want somewhere to eat afterward (probably around 4:30, an odd hour) that's nearby. We like good American and most ethnic: Chinese, Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern (though my daughter does not like Turkish), Mexican, etc. My husband rejects Thai, and I don't love Japanese. We don't want to spned too much-- probably not more than $25. p.p. (tax but not booze included).
And we would like to sit and chat a bit, so nothing like Shake Shack. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.

Lunch near Transit Museum (in Brooklyn)

Bocca Lupo sounds very good to me too, and it got excellent reviews in various places on the web. I like 'ino, and it sounds similar, but with more choices. Do any hounds besides egit have an opinion of it?

Lunch near Transit Museum (in Brooklyn)

Bar Tabac sounds very appealing, but I have one question-- based on their name. Do they allow smoking there? I hate cigarette smoke. Please let me know. Thanks.

Lunch near Transit Museum (in Brooklyn)

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. I will definitely follolw up on them. I remember now eating at Tripoli several years ago and liking it. Shake Shack is a little too informal; I do want a restaurant. I checked and Brucie is open on Saturdays, though not between 3:30 and 5, which could be a problem. It sounds appealing, but do they have proper chairs with backs? I don't like sitting on a stool. We probably will take your advice and look for something around Atlantic or Court St. instead of the Heights. But the Heights is a prettier neighborhood.
Thanks again!

Lunch near Transit Museum (in Brooklyn)

My husband claims Thai food does not agree with him, and I'm not crazy about Japanese, but otherwise, any of the ones you mentioned would be fine. Which place do you think offers the best food for the price? Also, I would prefer a place that's not far from the museum
I remember going to a Polish restaurant on Montague years ago; I think it was called Teresa's, and it was pretty good and very reasonable. Do you know if it's still there?
Please do let me know what you would recommend. Thanks.

Lunch near Transit Museum (in Brooklyn)

We are going to the Transit Museum on Saturday, and would like to find a nice but not expensive (max. about $20. pp) place for a late lunch nearby. The museum is on Boerum Pl. & Schermehorn. So it's very near Court St. and not far from the southern part of Brooklyn Heights. We don't want to walk more than about 15 or 20 minutes. American or ethnic food (Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, etc.) would be fine. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Inexpensive place near NYU

Thanks for all the suggestions. But University and 12 St. is a little further than we would like. I was looking for a place just a five or ten-minute walk away. There are two Italian restaurants very close by: Tre Giovani on LaGuardia and Porto-Bello on Thompson. Has anyone tried either of those? I was considering Otto, but it has been criticized for being very noisy. We would like to have a conversation without yelling at each other. .

Inexpensive place near NYU

We're going to a show at the Skirball Center (LaGuardia & Washington Sq. South) and want to have an early dinner beforehand. We don't want an expensive restaurant-- maybe $25. pp. Ethnic is good (Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, or Mediterranean, but not Japanese) or good American food. We would like someplace close by. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Suggestions for Lunch in Tarrytown?

Thanks for the suggestion. I also saw this place recommended on Yelp. It sounds good. I would like to try it, if the rest of my family agrees.

Suggestions for Lunch in Tarrytown?

We'll be going up to the Tarrytown area on Saturday and would like a suggestion fro a good place to eat lunch. Good American food would be fine, or Chinese, Italian, Mediterranean, Indain, etc. I'm not wild about cuisine that is mostly just meat or fish, which seems to be the case with Portugese. We would like something not very expensive, around $20. pp would be fine. Any place in Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow you would recommend? Thanks very much.

Early dinner near the Minskoff

We're going to a matinee on Saturday at the Minskoff (45 St. & 7 Ave.) and want to have an early dinner after the show. I'm looking for good, inexpensive food (hopefully not more than about $25 pp); it can be something ethnic (but not Thai) or American. We like Chinese, Italian, Mediterranean, Indian and Mexican. One of us is a vegetarian (he doesn not eat fish either). Any suggestions? Thank you.

Somewhere to eat near Rockefeller Park?

Thanks for the link. Several places mentioned, e.g. Odeon and the Blaue Gans, seemed rather pricey, entrees not much less than $25., which the chowhound had requested. But Walker's and TriBeCafe seem more reasonable. We may try one of those. Thanks for your suggestion.

Somewhere to eat near Rockefeller Park?

Thanks for the links. I was looking for a place a bit closer-- not as far south as the WFC. We'll be very close to Chambers St., Stuyvesant and the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Was looking for something around there.

Somewhere to eat near Rockefeller Park?

We're planning to go to a dance performance at Rockefeller Park, on River Terrace & Warren St. (north end of Battery Park City) on Saturday. We'd like to eat supper afterward. Can anyone suggest a good, not very expensive restaurant nearby? We like ethnic food, but American is fine too. I don't love Japanese or anything very hot. Price-- not much more than $25. pp.
Thanks a lot.

Early dinner nr. World Financial center

P.S. Just wondering-- does Luke's have normal tables and chairs? We are not youngsters and don't like sitting on stools. On the other hand, I love fresh lobster!

Early dinner nr. World Financial center

Thanks for the suggestions; I will make a note of them for future reference. In the meantime, my friends decided they want to go to Baluchi's on Greenwich. (They have some sort of discount they can use there.) I think that should be OK.

We're planning to go to a concert tonight originally scheduled for Rockefeller Park, but considering the weather, I think it will probably be in the Winter Garden (WFC). We'd like to eat in a not expensive (about $25. pp) restaurant nearby, either ethnic (Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian, Middle Eastern) or American. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Decent but not expensive near Walter Reade: Grand Sichuan 74?

I just checked out the reviews of this new branch on menupages and yelp, and there's general agreement that the service there is really terrible. Too bad-- I do like Indian food. The Lex. Ave. place got very good reviews; I will try to go there one day. Thanks for the suggestion.

Decent but not expensive near Walter Reade: Grand Sichuan 74?

We're seeing a film at Walter Reade (Lincoln Center) Sunday night and are looking, again, for a good restaurant but not too expensive, in the area. Don't want to spend much more than $25. pp. I looked at some suggestions-- I guess Shun Lee cafe might be a possibility, but it may be awfully crowded. I'm not a great fan of Ollie's, though location and prices are good. Was wondering about Grand Sichuan 74. Has anyone eaten there?

It doesn't have to be Chinese. But one of us is vegetarian, so not too meaty. Maybe someplace in upper 50's on 9th Ave.? Would like a place within a 10-block radius of B'way & 65 St. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Seeking good kosher restaurant in midtown

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll look into the less expensive places.

Seeking good kosher restaurant in midtown

Some high school friends and I are planning on an early (5 PM) dinner on a weekday in midtown. One of us is strictly kosher. Last year we met at My Most Favorite Dessert (or was it Food?) on W. 45 St., but they have since moved to the upper west side. My kosher friend says the vegetarian/kosher places on Curry Hill are not well supervised, so she does not feel they are reliably kosher. She suggested Shalom Bombay, which is a bit more expensive than we're used to. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Inexpensive place on LES

I'm looking for an inexpensive place for a light, early supper before a 7 PM concert on Eldrige St. near Rivington. Would prefer a place a bit calmer than Katz's. My friend is not at all adventurous about food: he likes American, Italian and Chinese, and nothing spicy. A nice coffee shop would be OK, as long as food is good. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Near Sunshine theater (Houston St. & 2nd Ave.)

A friend and I are going to a movie Sunday afternoon at Landmark's Sunshine theater, and want to eat a late lunch afterwards. She is a vegeatarian (no meat or fish) so Katz's would not be appropriate. We also want a quiet place to sit and chat. She suggested Spring St. Natural, but last time I ate there, I didn't care much for the food. She is trying to diet, so nothing very fattening would be good. We like ethnic food, if not too spicy, or a good diner would be fine. And not expensive- about $20. - 25. for a lunch (no wine). I know it's a lot to ask for. Any suggestions?
Thank you.
