Looking for specific Pizza joint

For me it's the reverse, the price doesn't bother me, it's the wait that isn't worth it.

What kind of wine glasses for Italian reds?

I use Bord glasses for Tuscan wines and Burg glasses for Piedmontese wines.

Chicago Wine Shops

Good to hear you liked it!

Best Wine Bar that also serves good food in Chicago?

As your asking for a wine bar, I would say Webster Wine bar. I think they have a great selection of wine and the food is pretty good. Hey, if a place has Lopez de Heredia on the list, its got to be good.

Chicago Wine Shops

The Marcy Street store two weeks ago was fully stocked with good selections and had some nice sales.

what should I bring for dinner?

Agree with most here. Barbera from a good producer, Vietti or Chiarlo are good and affordable. Or of course a Chianti Classico Riserva, Monsanto's is always good. Not sure about the white.

Where can I purchase duck legs and thighs?

Call fox and obel and see if they can get them. Or Paulina Market.

Chicago Wine Shops

Highly recommend Binny's. Huge selections from the world over. Better on Bords than Burgs though.

...And the worst restaurant in Chicago is....

Bob Chinn's. Disgusting and expensive.

No problem. It's a great store. The variety is amazing.

How About A New What Are You Drinking ?

Had the 07 Chateau de Segries Cotes du Rhone Rouge last night. Amazing value at $12. Classic Rhone nose of herbs and dark berries. Rich full palate of dark fruits. NICE every night drinker!

Why is wine by the glass so much more expensive in the US v. Europe?

agreed

Why is wine by the glass so much more expensive in the US v. Europe?

Glasses of wine were like 5 euros where we were. We always stick to bottles though.

Why is wine by the glass so much more expensive in the US v. Europe?

Fanta's were like 2 euros in restaurants in Piedmont, Liguria and Milan. That's less than $3. Were you eating at hotels?

Teach me about wines of the Rhone Alps

Northern Rhone is syrah (can blend with viognier). Hermitage and Cote Rotie being the best and most expensive. Cornas, St. Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage are other areas of the north.

Southern rhone is a blend typically with main grapes being grenache, syrah and mouvedre, though other grapes are allowed and used. Chateauneuf du Pape, gigondas, vacqueyras plus simple cotes du rhone are examples.

The rhone offers some of the best red wine values in the world.

Best inexpensive Syrah?

Try a crozes-hermitage from remizieres, darnaud or belle.

Why is wine by the glass so much more expensive in the US v. Europe?

I'm sure where you live, but prices in Europe to me are much less than the US. I was in Piedmont in May, bottles of good barbera's and dolcetto's were 10 to 15 euros. A bad wine in a US restaurant starts at $25.

Great Lake Pizza

You are absolutely correct.

Summer Wines

Muscadet, rose, sancerre, albarino, beaujolais, loire reds, dolcetto, barbera, rueda, so many good ones.

Why is wine by the glass so much more expensive in the US v. Europe?

It's not just wine by the glass, but bottle prices as well.

Why is wine by the glass so much more expensive in the US v. Europe?

Ding, ding. You are correct.

Wine Shop

Sounds like you know what you like, definitely Binny's or Sam's. The selection of wines will blow away what you'll find at the smaller shops reccomended.

fantastic apple orchard needed

Tree-mendous is the best. Highly reccomended. Only about 2 hours from Chicago.

pre-concert dinner near Old Town School of Folk Music

Bistro Campagne is a no brainer.

Best Wine Shops in the US

Binny's in Chicago is great. Sam's is also good.

Deep Dish Debate

Lou's is the best in my opinion. Giordano's is bad. Gino's and Uno's are in the middle.

Moving to Chicago, no Thai?

I have had two Thai Au Pairs over the last three years. Both think the Thai food in Chicago is great. In addition, they have Thai Au Pair friends in NY that have reported the lack of good Thai food. I think your friend is mistaken.
