Guide to Woodside

I agree - I've only been twice, but I found the food...incredibly salty. And I LIKE salt. And the hovering water-bearing waiters didn't help. I like it as a grocery store, though - great sausage (fresh and dried) and cheese and other imported odds and ends - good prices, too.

Lobster Rolls in Queens

The Stop & Shop on 48th Street in LIC has them, too - just had one - $3.99 - and it beats the one I had for $13.00 on the Connecticut shore last week, even though I prefer the plain-lobster-with-melted-butter over the mayonnaisey variety. Big pieces and on a potato roll, too - which helps a lot, I think. And more subway-friendly than Glendale.

I'm sorry. I love Pizza Boy II on 59th and Roosevelt. Especially a pie with fresh garlic and onions. So savory. The sausage rolls are good, too, especially with a side of sauce (though you need to ask for it). It can be inconsistent here and there, but it's honest-to-God, cretinous comfort food.

Best Bagels in Queens?

How does Whitestone Bagel Factory (Willets Point Boulevard and 149th Street) stack up? I've had their bagels a few times and have liked them, but it's always been just after they opened, so the bagels were still warm and there was no line running almost out the door...

A place to sit near Leo's Latticini/Mama's and Timmy O's?

Leo's/Mama's closes around noon on Sundays, yes?

But there's always Tortilleria Nixtamal.

A place to sit near Leo's Latticini/Mama's and Timmy O's?

Say you were on foot in Corona and wanted to get a sandwich at Leo's Latticini/Mama's, then walk down to Timmy O's for dessert. Where would you sit to eat the sandwich?

Best Irish Soda Bread in Sunnyside/Woodside/Maspeth

I used to get soda bread - or scones, at least - at the little Italian (?) bakery on Roosevelt Avenue between 61st and 62nd Streets (almost under Woodside Station). I enjoyed them, but I don't know if they'd be considered "authentic". They may be worth a try - or a second opinion.

Ceviche in Queens?

Do a search on this board (or on Google) for mentions of Braulio y Familia. It's on 63rd between 39th and Roosevelt Avenues. It serves several kinds of ceviche and seems well liked.

Where can I find an affordable suckling pig?

Someone asked the same question last year - perhaps the answer(s) will be more or less the same:

Sripraphai's pad thai?

Is it sacrilege to say that I've preferred it when there's been enough lime on the side? For a while they accompanied it with a little dish of lime juice - not enough, to my taste - but last visit or two or three they've had an actual wedge of lime that made it sparkle a bit more. And, truth be told, I've often off-loaded it onto the remnants of my papaya salad to jazz it up.

In retrospect, I haven't had so many of their noodle dishes, beyond the Sauteed Drunken Noodles, which I've liked, and one which arrives in a pool of cornstarchy broth, which wasn't so great "in situ", but made OK leftovers the next day, and - I think - the Crispy Egg Noodles, which were a bit too "La Choy" for me.

Sripraphai's pad thai?

So is it a merely a matter of al dente-ness of the noodles, or something else?

Sripraphai's pad thai?

Having read some disparaging comments about Sripraphai's pad thai, I'm curious to know what it's lacking. I've enjoyed it on my occasional visits, but I was introduced to the dish there, so I don't know the difference.

I passed by the place tonight and it was still shuttered - but now it features a banner which reads something like: "Coming Soon / K B Galaxy / Hamburgers"

Longtime vegetarian - one-time meat bite in Queens

How about the green curry with roasted duck and coconut milk (and pineapple, fresh basil, etc.) at Sripraphai? I think it's C29 on the menu and it's terrific.

Tasty 2 on Broadway in Astoria?

It's between Newtown Road and 48th Street, near the eastern exits of the 46th Street R/V station. They've been around for at least a few years. I've only had their gyros and wings - not so bad fast food - and cheap.

Where can i buy live lobster in Queens?

How about U Mart on 31st Avenue and 56th Street in Woodside? I know they have a broad seafood selection, including crabs and, I think, lobsters...
