SF Dogpatch & Bayview places to eat

The Red Flannel Hash at Serpentine is one of my favorite brunch items in the city.

Between Frances and Camino which do you guys like better?

I've never tried walking in to Frances but on the five occasions that I've dined there I have seen open tables throughout the night on most of those evenings.

Marlow & Sons or Diner?

Thanks for the input, everyone! We ended up having a drink at Marlow and Sons (ps...fantastic cocktails!!!) then dinner at Diner. I really loved the apps and the chicken - the burger was fine but didn't live up to the hype. Great space, service was casual yet still professional, I could easily become a regular here if I didn't live 3,000 miles away.

Little Star Pizza has surprisingly good wings.

Marlow & Sons or Diner?

Which would you choose for dinner? It'll be for my first night of vacation and am taking out a friend to thank her for letting me crash with her. Thanks!

You could try and grab a counter seat at Frances

How far in advance for reservations for popular restuarants?

Frances is 60 days out. I agree with hill food, you should definitely call. Plus most restaurants won't put reservations for weekends/popular nights on Open Table anyhow.

Le Garage has "jumped the shark" [Sausalito]

I've been to Frances (the hottest restaurant in SF) 5 times this year, every reservation was booked on OT. Most were made 1-2 months in advance but one was made the day before.

Good breakfast places very close to Hotel Palomar?

I haven't tried the food there yet but the Blue Bottle Cafe at Mint Plaza has some breakfast items available that looked really good.

I'll second the Foreign Cinema rec...my favorite brunch in the city. Their menu is more like a lunch menu with breakfast items anyhow.

Simon, valid point on the Batali thing...I'm not sure why I'm such a glutton!

Top 5 "Must Eats" in NYC

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll admit it, I've wanted to dine at Ko ever since seeing it on Bourdain's food porn episode. Not sure if I can even secure a reservation but thought that I should give it a shot...then if I can't get in have Ssam as a backup (Ssam doesn't take reservations, correct?)

Luke's is on my radar because a good friend from SF moved to NY and raves about it and really wants me to go with her...maybe I'll steer her to Pearl's.

I definitely want to get to both Ippudo and Degustation - and Kathryn, I was just saying I've already been to Momofuku Noodle, will not be doubling up with Ippudo.

I've had somewhat bad luck with Batali restaurants (average visits at both Lupa and Pizzeria Mozza in LA) but feel the urge to try Otto unless anyone feels otherwise. As a comparison, my last trip out I loved the pizza at Motorino and Keste. Also on my pizza list is Donatella's and Di Fara.

Top 5 "Must Eats" in NYC

I'm heading to NY in December and definitely keeping an eye on this thread! Some places I definitely want to try: Minetta Tavern, Luke's Lobster, Momofuku (I've had the ramen and it's sublime, hoping to score a lunch time res at Ko), Degustation, City Bakery, Ippudo and a bunch of pizza places!

need reccs on good meet up place for 10-20, not a sit down(restaurant with large bar, small plates, gastro pub)

If it's early enough on a Saturday (before 9pm) you should be able to get space at 15 Romolo. Great drinks and bar food.

Cocktail in Oakland uptown: a challenge

Just an FYI if this is for tonight...there is a show at the Fox across the street so Flora might be more packed than usual. I really like their cocktails but refuse to go there on a show night anymore because of how crowded it gets.

How much to budget for group wine tasting fees?

I had my 40th birthday in Healdsburg in February and we had 18 people total. I called ahead and booked 2-3 weeks out...here's where we went and the tasting fees:

-Quivira, $10
-Arista, $5 (picked up sandwiches and ate them at their picnic area)
-Ridge, $5
-Truett Hurst, Free

Some of my fav wineries discourage larger groups so I went to a few of them (A.Rafanelli, Preston, Unti) the day before with a smaller group (three of us)

Spots to hit in Western Addition / Nopa area

Bar Crudo for fresh seafood (and a great happy hour)
I actually prefer Nopalito over Nopa
I've heard the Kung Fu Taco truck sets up outside Candybar on some evenings but haven't tracked it down yet
Mini Bar is dog friendly, offers $4 Pliny the Elder bottles on Tuesday nights and allows you to bring food in (conveniently located across the street from Little Star)

Looking for recommendations based on SF places I loved last year

My Sunday brunch rec would be Foreign Cinema, an easy BART ride from your hotel. Walking distance-ish would be Canteen - haven't been myself but have heard raves for their brunch.
