Gift certificate for new parents?

Oak Park might do a general "Oak Park" gift certificate. Check with the Chamber of Commerce. Forest Park has done this with a Madison Street gift certificate good at many shops and restaurants.

The Gage or Park Grille?

We just ate at the Gage on Friday night. The menu just changed in the last few days. The pork belly was really, really, good. The heirloom tart was nice. Desserts we had were very good. We've been happy everytime we've eaten here. They definitely can accommodate a larger group as there were 2-3 groups of 8 or more on Friday night.

Breakfast or Brunch West. Burbs

Just wanted to report that we went to the newly opened 621 Diner in Lombard. It's just west of 83 and just east of the plaza with the Babies R Us. They have been open about 6 weeks. Good coffee. I had vanilla brioche french toast. My friend had an omelet. Both were very good. Friendly waitress. Owner stopped by asking for honest feedback, was very friendly. We will definitely go there again.

Breakfast or Brunch West. Burbs

We need a casual brunch or breakfast place. I will be in Bensenville, the other person in N. Riverside. We've done everything in Oak Park/Forest Park. Looking for someplace new, maybe further west - Elmhurst, Oakbrook, Lagrange Park, or ???

New to Chicago/Looking for cooking class recs

I have not taken one of these classes, but they have a lot of variety:

Also, Flavour Cooking School in Forest Park, which is just off the Blue line or Green line, has classes.

Desserts for 2 cookbook?

I like Small Batch Baking. I just made the pecan pie last night. I used two individual sized tart pans and it only took 2/3 c. of pecans. Just enough to hit the spot. I never would have made it if I had to make a full 9" pie. I've also made some of the cakes, the chocolate souffles, and most of the cookies. The shortcakes are also good, especially in the summer when strawberries are abundant.

You can get it here for $10
