Westjanie's Profile
New Whole Foods in Ridge Hill (Yonkers)
FWIW, when we questioned the pay-for-parking business (in LL Bean), we were told the development didn't want to become a hangout for idle teens and figured charging for parking would prevent that.
White Plains: A+ for Noodle+
We were in downtown WP and in need of lunch today MID-AFTERNOON. They were doing business but not overcrowded, and we got a table right away. Ordered four different appetizers/small dishes and were generally very pleased. We had the curried pufffs, spring rolls, pot stickers and soup buns. I personally was not thrilled with the soup buns, but they are not an item I consider myself expert on -- and my husband liked them. We both were very happy with the rest. The staff were very sweet and efficient. They were not, of course, overwhelmed by lots and lots of customers.
Best Duck Dish in Westchester
I haven't tried it myself, but a friend raves about Restaurant 42's duck, says it's the best she's ever had. It is (partly) cooked sous vide! -- but ends up with crisp exterior.
Ambadi White Plains
We frequently get take-out from Ambadi -- have never eaten in. We've never had slider rolls; usually order naan, which tends to arrive home a bit squishy but can be fixed up by a minute or two in toaster oven. We have ordered a variety of dishes over time (most often chicken or vegetarian) and have never been disappointed.
Aberdeen, White Plains
Central Seafood and Aberdeen are both good, but may have different strengths, as would any two French restaurants, etc. Both also cater to a lot of actual Chinese people. Central Seafood has two rooms that comprise the restaurant. Depending on the day of the week and the size of your group, they would probably either put you at one very big table or, possibly, give the smaller room over to you.
Aberdeen, White Plains
Central Seafood also does a lot of banquets (or at least big groups), especially for Chinese families. Their prices are probably a bit better than Aberdeen (or at least we have found them so for regular menu) and the parking is easier (and free,)
Help -- moved to Scarsdale
Latin American Cafe did burn down along with Bengal Tiger and, since they had been regular hangouts for us for years, we've had a big hole in our lives. The above mentioned Sofrito, while Puerto Rican rather than Cuban, does have some overlap -- for instance, my entree was ropa vieja, one of my favorites from LAC, and it was terrific at Sofrito. Karamba, next door to Sofrito (Main St., WP) seems to be some sort of pan-Latin-Caribbean and includes some Cuban-ish food. It is in a different category price- and atmosphere-wise. It seems to aim for working class and local office sorts, while Sofrito is aiming for a hipper destination vibe and costs more, though is not, for most Chowhounders, I would think, prohibitive.
Help -- moved to Scarsdale
We've been trying them, too, with so far mixed results. They're a bit more of a trek for us, but we are likely to give them at least another chance, since, in our experience, many otherwise terrific restaurants can have an off night.
Help -- moved to Scarsdale
No question it's a bad location, and the current road construction is a real killer. We've lately been going to D Thai Kitchen in Thornwood. Their seasonings are sometimes a bit timid (staff, even, don't seem to be fond of a lot of spice), but they are generally quite good.
Another suggestion for a restaurant that's interesting, but not yet discussed here: We recently tried Sofrito in White Plains. It's upscale Puerto Rican. Can be very loud (back room is better but still not quiet) but we found the food quite tasty, portions very large, servers pleasant, but our entrees arrived when we were nowhere near finished with (shared) appetizer. We took home a lot of leftovers.
Tung Hoy Restaurant in Larchmont
The little take out place near us does these things as I remember them from many years ago -- and I assume others of that ilk may also. You wouldn't want to eat in there, of course. The one we go to is Young's Chinese Kitchen on Post Rd in White Plains. Since you mention a Mamaroneck restaurant, I assume Young's would not be convenient for you, but you could try some closer to you, for these kinds of items, at least.

Arrosto
Husband and I went, for the first time, for lunch a few months ago. We shared a (wonderful) clam pizza and some other smallish dish, had fine service and enjoyed very much. Then went back a few weeks ago with friends in the evening, probably on a Friday. We all shared a bunch of appetizers and, eventually, a full pasta order -- and dessert and coffee. It also was a terrific experience. Possibly, some of the wait staff are better than others -- and maybe the small dishes are better than the big ones ??
Anniversary dinner in lower Westchester tomorrow night?
We just recenly celebrated ours at X20. Hadn't been in some time and were reminded that it can be a VERY pleasant experience (just a pain in the neck to get to and from our house,) Food and service were excellent but not at all stuffy. And the view is, of course, terrific.
A Wedding Venue with GOOD food?!
Have you checked the various Abigail Kirsch venues? Can't remember what their capacities are, and their costs may be too high, but their Tarrytown and Bot. Gdn spots are lovely and they're a pleasure to deal with.
Great new Thai place in Tuckahoe
I'm glad to hear you find the new incarnation good, and we'll probably enjoy it too. But we were fond of the (just) previous owners and staff and are sorry they're gone -- tho it shouldn't really come as a surprise: they were never full. I did hope that they did enough in-house business, combined with an apparently reasonably brisk takeout one, to survive. It happens that a week or so ago we were heading there for dinner, saw the road closed, and groaned to each other that they'd never survive. Since it was one of those torrentially raining evenings, we didn't look for a space that would require a walk and just changed our destination.
cheap yummy lunch in White Plains- anything not terrible fatty.
Right in the center of town, on Main St., is Karamba, a sort of pan-Latin spot, with comfortable seating and good prices.
Very disappointing peaches this year
I got some absolutely wonderful peaches from Whole Foods the other day. Just also got some from Ramsey's Farm in Scarsdale, but they're still a bit too firm, so I don't know how they'll turn out. I didn't ask their provenance, but I seem to remember being told in the past they grow most of their wares on some acreage in NJ.
Is there a better place to buy fresh orange/grapefruit juice or lemon/limeade than Stew Leonards?
Trader Joe's and Whole Foods also have Fresh-squeezed juices at similar price to Fairway.
What towns in the suburbs have the best restaurant scenes?
You can add Mt. Kisco and, to a lesser extent?, Sleepy Hollow and Ossining.
What towns in the suburbs have the best restaurant scenes?
Moved to center of town, same block as Copacabana.
Best Value Grocery Shopping in Westchester?
I am in awe of your stamina and ability to do so much grocery shopping in one fell swoop!! I much prefer to spread things out over a few days (plus the fact that I will undoubtedly forget something or otherwise discover an unanticipated need later.)
I, too, was amazed at the anti-S&S feelings, but I eventually came to the conclusion that they seem perhaps to have a geographical basis. I'm assuming that some of their stores must be less well managed than the ones I visit (usually White Plains.) While I find myself visiting way more markets than I would ideally care to, not usually because of money considerations, but because each carries certain items I prefer, Stop and Shop is still a reasonably priced market of mostly good selection and decent quality.
Need recs for Larchmont- Mamaroneck area
We are fond of Espana in Larchmont -- mostly tapas, which can be fun with a group. It's a pleasant ambience.

Jackie's Bistro -- Eastchester
We also ate there some weeks ago for the first time in years. Our experience was perfectly fine in terms of the food (Don't remember exactly what we ate -- probably duck or chicken, maybe one lamb. The daughter was chatting fairly loudly with some regulars, and we got to hear more about her personal life than we really cared to, but, otherwise, the experience was fine.
Buffalo Wing Tour 2011 (westchester/putnam)
Do the "best" wings have to be exactly the same as the originals from Buffalo??
Rye Brook, Westchester
It's worth mentioning that Inca y Gaucho also has Argentine-style grilled meats, empanadas, etc. at very reasonable prices.

Is Fujinoya that good?
Perhaps they had reservations. Because they are so small, some regulars do that at prime hours.
Don Juan, Pleasantville
A bit of a mix. We were a group of 4. By the way, this was in the first week or two they were open, a Friday night. We had reservations, which turned out not to mean much, other than that they apologized a lot for their disorganization, then eventually gave us a not great table. We ordered guacamole, and were served what I think had been prepared according to another table's spicing request, but that was not the end of the world, and we just pegged it to their not-yet-organized fumbling. The other 3 of us ordered chicken or beef (or whatever) dishes that they enjoyed. I, however, having had tacos that I liked a lot at Azteca, made the mistake of ordering them here. This dish was definitely a "gringo" idea of what tacos should be, actually more like enchiladas, lots of tortilla, not much meat, very disappointing. Even the enjoyable dishes were not so great as to overcome the other problems: the noise was deafening, the staffing friendly but overwhelmed, and the number of dishes on the menu we were likely to enjoy extremely limited.
