LaManda's Restaurant in White Plains

It is, sorry about the name. I'll be curious what you think. We've enjoyed our meals there and it is "reasonable".

LaManda's Restaurant in White Plains

We did too, used to go a lot, but when they stopped taking checks completely (after having written many over the years), was really turned off. BTW, one of the chefs is at Amendolas up the road, food is very similar and owners are very nice.

What's good in Tarrytown these days?

Another vote for Tarry Tavern!

Minetta Tavern - I didn't order the burger, but I still left very impressed.

As always, a fun report to read and I know I've said this before, but I am thoroughly impressed with your appetite :)

One of these days I'll get to Minetta Tavern, especially after this fine report.

Best way to re-heat Fairway rotisserie chickens?

I do the same as Brian W, sometimes adding a little water. The trick is not to overheat it, just take the chill off , so 15-20 minutes is usually perfect.

Thank you all for the recommendations

Had a great weekend in Philly, what a nice easy city to get around (and park) in. Got there Friday for our lunch at Rare, very nice, perfect for lunch, we split a flatbread and salad. Great location if you are heading to the museum (or prison).

Dinner that night was at Dandelion. Very, very fun place and loved all the different rooms. It really made you feel like you were dining in someone's home. We split deviled eggs and the foie gras (highly recommend, very generous portion), then I had the Berkshire Pork chop w/ prociutto wrapped asparagus. My friend had the fish/chips, which she enjoyed, her son the roast beef sandwich and the gf the beef and chips. For dessert we split the chocolate pot (nice and rich) and apple financier (this was the only dish that I wasn't wild about). All in all, enjoyable meal with great service.

For lunch on Sat. we ended up at the market (where else?), had the roast pork w/broccoli rabe from the really popular place with the lines, sorry, can't remember the name, except it started with a "D"? Very nice sandwich, my friend had the brisket. You are able to order 1/2 sandwich which we were happy about. Also enjoyed this market very much, it was fun to browse/graze through all the stands and I was able to do a little of my grocery shopping, always nice to travel with a cooler.

For dinner we ended up at Zahov, thank you for the recommendation, it was a fantastic choice. At first we were going to order a la carte but really wanted to try the lamb shoulder. The staff checked with the kitchen and told us we could order 1/2 a lamb shoulder, but then we figured we might as well do the whole thing. Very accommodating, I'm already impressed.

The mezzes (I'd go back for that cauliflower), hummas, salads and desserts all outstanding, but that lamb shoulder really was something else (even though most of it resides in my fridge right now). It's the type of diet I am trying to follow, more salads/vegetables, so this was perfect! U hockey, I am continually impressed by your appetite. We enjoyed sitting at the bar there, very friendly staff with great service. As I don't think we have a comparative place in NY, I'm glad we made this choice over Osteria (which I'm sure would have been good too, but we eat sooo much Italian here).

All in all, a really good eating/sightseeing trip to Philly.

Heading back to Philadelphia, tweaking the agenda.

Thank you all....looking forward to a great eating adventure in Philly. And, uhockey, the budino does look great, I just made polenta the other night for dinner, big fan of this.

Maybe we'll end up at Osteria instead then.....just really want good food and a fun place to eat at the bar....We'll have been wandering Philly all day, so it will also depend where we end up at dinnertime. In NY, there are so many choices......

Lincoln Ristorante - Need soothing words to calm me down!!

I had lunch there with a good friend during Rest Week a couple of months ago, we both thought the food was very good and the service couldn't have been nicer. Really enjoyed all our courses. Thought the place was pretty cool too. On a nice day you will almost feel like you are dining outside.

Recommendation near American Girl Store? midtown east?

Just wanted to correct myself, 5 Guys/Chinese restaurant is on 48th between 5th and 6th, even closer to the American Doll place (I walk by these places every morning, just don't always note what street I'm on).

There's also a TGIF Fridays on 5th Ave., but I would not recommend that.

Uhockey, we will probably skip the lamb and just do small plates, more to our liking. I also enjoyed reading about your dining experiences in NY and your blog is fun to read. You really do have a good apetite!

We were thinking of a Vetri spot....just don't know how to squeeze that in, but have the addresses for Sat., just in case....

Great, thanks for all the tips.....I just hope we can get in, we'll probably go early Sat. evening (6-7ish).

Recommendation near American Girl Store? midtown east?

I always love the restaurant in Saks Fifth Ave for lunch, nice view of Rock Center, good salads and child friendly.

Another place would be Rock Center Grill, in Rock Center, another casual place and Bill's burger Bar on 51st (behind Rock Center). There's also a 5 guys burger and some casual Chinese places on 46th between 5th and 6th.

Hope that helps.

Best Mexican Food in Spanish Harlem

I just had lunch at El Paso on Sat. and thought it was quite good, nice atmosphere and the place was very busy at 1:30 in the afternoon. We both enjoyed our meal there.

Sorry, it's Fare....

Uhockey, you're a little of both, but always a really good read! Enjoy all the descriptions, almost feel like I'm enjoying the meal with you.

I'll keep the lamb in mind, I'm hoping we can get a couple of seats at the bar...you think two women can finish it? It's a girls weekend away.....

NY Chowhound heading to Philly this weekend, based on what I've read here, have res Rare for lunch on Friday (going to see the Van Gogh exhibit), The Dandelion Fri night. Sat, as it's just the two of us, thought we'd try, Zahav, at the bar after wandering the streets and eating our way through the markets. Any other suggestions?

Uhockey, I'll write up a report next week, even though I don't write as eloquently as you, I'll try my best.

Coffee shop with seating in Grand Central Terminal

The food court is really the only place that would work, but it will be noisy.

Just remembered, there is a deli/take out place with some seating on the corner of 45th and Vanderbilt, don't know the name, but I've grabbed a quick cup of coffee there a few times.

Finalizing restaurant for special night with wife...kids are with the sitter!!

I agree too with Picholine, it's a beautiful room and very romantic.

As far as getting to the theatre, I work around the corner from the restaurant and always walk to the theatre from here. (Saw Once on 45th St. last Wed., left here at 1:30 for a 2:00 matinee and got there at 1:45)

It's a very easy walk, just give yourself 20-30 minutes or so (I'm a fast walker so this is generous), you're only 15 blocks from the theatre, less than a mile. Too me, by the time you cross Broadway to the subway, and then maybe have to wait (Sat. the train doesn't run as often), it might take the same amount of time.

I also find it very refreshing to stroll after a nice dinner.

CSA in Westchester

I belong to a CSA out of Sleepy Hollow, not that far from Ossining, it's Rexcroft Farm:

http://www.rexcroftfarm.com/CSA.html

I share a 1/2 share with a friend of mine and it's more than enough, first year we split a whole share, it was way too much food (just husband and myself, same for my friend).

Manzo - the best "grocery store" restaurant I can imagine - and some of the best Italian food in NYC.

All I can say is "WOW", great report on what sounds like an amazing meal....I'll have to add it to my list :)

Humm and Guidara's Nomad

Another fan here, we had a fabulous meal Sat. night, service was great, sommellier made a very good recommendation on wine based on my request. I started with the fruit de mar, it is truly an outstanding appetizer and loved the originality of the dishes. DH got the radishes (he does not have a big appetite). For mains, I had the halibut which I must say is one of the best pieces of fish I've had in a long time, it came with snap and regular peas in a sauce that I mopped up with the bread. Great taste sensations. DH got the pork, which has been described before. Many thanks for those who raved about the milk and honey dessert, something I would never order, but did based on the recommendations here, it is, again, a truly delicious dessert, not too heavy and the perfect ending to our meal.

Service was very attentive, only flaw was they did not bring the bread until I asked (when the main courses came), and then said it was a re-fill, I said no, we never got any bread. But that's all minor, all else was great.

We sat in the "bordello" room, which was quite dark and romantic, I did walk around and thought the entire place was beautifully decorated, warm and inviting.

Madison & 44th, 10:30PM, 20 people???

There a few Irish Bar/Restaurants in the area, Connolly's, Maggie's Place, not gourmet, but since you are going late, not sure what you are really looking for.

Humm and Guidara's Nomad

Decisions, decisions as to what to eat, this is going to be a tough one, but you are right, we can always return :)

Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks 2012

I'll be at 42 Friday night, I think we're following each other....glad you had such a great experience, we went last year and I remember it was outstanding.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks 2012

Don't know where we'll be sitting either, but res is early - 6:15. It's just my husband and I.

The foie gras was more like a pate/torchon (not warm from a lobe), but very good, they gave you one nice piece, it's rich, so it was enough for me. It came with a nice frisee salad. My husband had the country pate, which he also enjoyed. The apple dessert was a cake with apples, not a tatin (reminded me of my grandmother's apple kuchen), I enjoyed that very much too, came with ice cream.

I usually park at the City Center when I go to 42, it's cheaper to park and only a block away (I don't like paying the valet either).

Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks 2012

I also have a reservation for North Wed. night, thought about cancelling, but after reading this review, I think we'll make the trip.

Went to Le Provencal Sat. night, great menu and the food was very good with nice size portions. Lots of choices for both apps and mains. There were two fish choices, steak, beef burgandy, liver with onions are just a few to mention (the whole menu is on line), which is a refreshing change from most of the restaurant week menus. I had foie gras on brioche to start, lamb brochette w/ratatouille and cous cous and the apple cake for dessert. Enjoyed it all, highly recommend.

Besides North, I'm going to 42 Sat. night.

uhockey revisits Per Se Extended Tasting Menu. In a word - incredible.

Another Wow, amazing report, I hope one of these days I am able to dine there with the right person/people too!

Need a venue for 10 guys in their 50's to reunite

I'm not sure of the name, but there's a nice Irish bar on Madison, east side of the street, I believe between 38th/39th. Or just head over to 3rd ave., plenty of choices over there.
