Kitchenaid Artisan Mixer vs. Kitchenaid Professional

Definitely on the right track with KitchenAid; now that they have a steel gear box instead of plastic it's hard to think of a negative. Pro Mixer is bigger in size of course, but that shouldn't matter if you need the extra room and power for larger tasks with bread for example. If you are just getting a mixer for smaller tasks, then yea just an Artisan would suffice. In the rare event something happens KitchenAid always has good customer service that takes care of you anyway. But if you plan on experimenting and doing some daring things with your mixer I advise spending a little bit more for the professional 600. As of now you can get a Licorice KitchenAid 600 Pro series mixer for 323$ + free shipping
- that's only 75$ more than the cheapest new Artisan's. It's hard to pass up that kind of value for something that is going to last you many years. http://shop.kitchenproductdeals.com/show/amazon/B0002Y5X92

Refurbished Kitchen Aid Mixer

Yea, if your older Ultra Power KA still works for you, then that's great.

Grillncook brings up a good point about the now metal gearbox. When it was plastic, this would break all the time especially with the powerful Professional 600 series models. Now that it is metal this issue seems to have subsided. Warranty will probably be half the length if it is refurbished and as said, the 'no hassle' part will not suffice. That said, KitchenAid always takes care of their customers well and their refurbished / re-manufactured products are durable (generally only used a few times for show).

All that said I would probably just fork over the extra 40$ for a new instead of remanufactured. You will have this mixer for a long time, might as well protect yourself with a safer, longer warranty. Check Amazon on Friday's for huge sales - a new white Artisan is 239$ + free shipping!

They banned my Weber - need outdoor electric grill recommendation

Yea, it's tough. Few options will appease your insurance companies. The only one I've had luck with is the smokeless Meco.

Electric BBQ Grill

In a condo or apartment, Meco grills seem to make the most sense. They're the only ones our old landlord let us use, because being smokeless there is less risk. Either the cart or the tabletop.

Potato Pizza

Potato Pizza huh. I've had Baked Potato Pizza which is basically baked potato spread acting as cheese (with Goat cheese, tomatoes, and green onions (+ Bacon if you wish)). I would really suggest it - Pizza Luce has it.

Betrayed by Kitchenaid - is it possible that the stand mixer is Not All That?

Wow, I'm surprised. KitchenAid usually has a better reputation than it's competitors like Cuisinart. Better warranties and definitely top customer service. I'm surprised they couldn't help you even if out of warranty. I know a lot of problems with the KitchenAid mixers stems from either too much bread use, or not loosening the screw so that the mixer doesn't grind into the bowl...read more about that

Finding Deals on KitchenAid Stand Mixer?

Wow, nice find. I feel like I've read this thread before but didn't see that. The classic is definitely one of the only KA mixers that will get that low in price. I found a good one for early summer here..

Best value right now has to be the KitchenAid Professional stand mixer. 199$ off the mixer and an 80$ ice cream maker attachment for free. Much more value than the Artisan will give you, though they are superb too just a little smaller.

Newish Maytag French Door frig dead

Yes exactly...like a lot of things in life (cell phones anyone?), refridgerators are made to perform well for a short period of time. But why create something that is going to last 20-30 years when you want their business every 5-7 years?
