Mother's Day
We found this delightful little Thai food place overlooking the water, while we we were riding the northway bike trail.

5 Seminary Hill Road - Carmel, NY 10512
They seem to be having an event for a group mother's day brunch on Saturday instead of Sunday. We have been going for Saturday late lunches after our bike excursions. It is a nice place to rest and stop after a long ride, have some Thai food over views of a lake. We really like the food and the atmosphere.
Finally tried Kohinoor in Yorktown
I went about 2 weeks ago and had the chicken tika marsala (not sure of spelling) but i think that was their special. I loved it, it was very creamy but I agree a bit pricey. I love the Nan there. I remember having plain basmati rice with my chicken tika marsala. I was very happy to find them and my craving for "nan" bread.
Craving Good Thin Crust Pizza in Westchester
My favorite place closed and I am still on the hunt. Does anyone remember "Roma" in Tuckahoe, by the train station in the 80's and 90's. My favorite use to be a plain pizza with extra cheese, where the crust was so thin than you had to use a knife and fork, otherwise the cheese would oozzzeeee out. Can anyone suggest a place similar to that? I'm in upper westchester but would travel anywhere.

I accidentally found an amazing new Thai discovery on Tuesday night.
THAI GOLDEN is A wonderful Spicy Surprize!!!!
I can’t believe they have a web site, even if it is bare bones: http://www.thaigolden.net
There is no menu on it, but they say it is coming soon.
The owner is a friendly retired woman from Thailand that has lived in Carmel for over 20 years. If she is not too busy, and she is up for chatting, you can really feel her warmth and passion for food. During the summer she says she is really proud of her garden and her thai basil and herb growing ability. ( I can’t wait for summer then)
So here is what I had and what I thought.
APPS
1) Roti
2) Dumplings
All I can say was WOW. What a surprise for the taste buds, especially for Putnam county. In fact, we ordered a second round of Roti while waiting for dinner.
I strongly believe you can tell a lot of a thai restaurant by it’s pad thai and red curry. My partner and I both love red curry, we can literally drink it. We both love duck and seafood as well, so we decided to get the following:
MAIN COURSE
1) Seafood red curry
Seafood and curry tasted super fresh, calamari was not chewy, dish was nice and spicy as well as very creamy
2) Duck red curry
A crispy duck, with a red curry loaded with bamboos on top.
3) Crispy pad thai
This was a surprise, I don’t remember ever having crispy pad thai, very flavorful and crunchy.
DESSERT
Mango sticky rice
Fried Banana
Both awesome, I don’t know how they did it, but fresh mangos during the cold season. Really refreshing and amazing.
I recently moved to Peeksill from the city, and it is a bit far for me to travel, almost in the city for the same amt of car time. Although Bangkok Spice in Shrub Oak is much closer to me, Thai golden is well worth the car travel, almost an hour depending on route 6 traffic. In fact, I can’t wait to go there again, but my cash poor budget doesn’t allow me to eat out 3 nights in a row. Gotta wait unitl next week.
As for the cost, it is very reasonable, in fact, less expensive than Bangkok Spice, with larger portions. We left stuffed with some leftovers, as well as very happy.
My only complaint was that service was a bit slow, but then again, I’m use to the quick rush in and out of “city” eating. It is obvious they are working out the kinks. This is definitely a “mom’s” place, no pressure, really laid back, with a water view of one of Carmel's lakes.
It is the first thai place I have ever been to with a water front view. The décor is orange and blue, really different, bold, colorful from what I usually see. At first a bit shocking, but then pleasing.
If you eat there, please post here what you had. I’m dying to try more.
I wish them well and hope they stay for a long long time. I am looking forward to eating good thai food by the water again, very soon…
Batali in Westchester?
Thanks, gillyweed.
I'm new to this list, but love it for knowing about good food and places to eat well.
Batali in Westchester?
Thanks, I think I was thinking of
Becco
http://www.becconyc.com/index2.htm
I was just there again last night, sitting at the bar for dinner with a friend.
It was really nice, but a bit too noisy and over crowded, despite the pouring rainy cold weather. It took me 5 mins to get from the door to the bar.
That said, I love the food there, especially the antipasto misto and believe it or not the Fegato, the calf’s liver with carmelized onions, pancetta and crispy polenta. We finished off sharing the amazing cheesecake. It is a place I go to everytime I’m near time square or the theater district.
So if Lidia's place in Manhattan, Felidia, is very expensive, give Becco a try.
Batali in Westchester?
Lidia's place in Manhattan
Is that the one on restaurant row (aka 46th st) if so, I think I had their pasta special there, all you can eat, 3 different types of pasta for $30. I loved the large gnocci, but didn't care for the others. It is the place with the very low ceiling, are we talking about the same place?
Thai in Westchester - Rate Your Best
I just moved up here from the city to Peekskill and was so excited that there was a Thai Restaurant in upper Westchester, but Bangkok Spice is awful. I am use to good fresh Thai food in the city and have lived in Thailand for 3 months. So believe me, I have eaten a lot of Thai in Queens (love Sripraphai), Manhattan and Thai street noodles in Bangkok. I went twice to Bangkok Spice, trying to give it another chance, thinking the first time was an off day for them. Both times, the food was awful and tasted old, reheated too many times. When I mean awful, I mean soups were watery (lacking lime and the spice taste), pad thai was bland, greasy, and served luke warm, with soggy old bean sprouts topping it. The curry, I had to return, over cooked meat and veggies, besides it didn't taste right. I am not sure what they were thinking. I was beyond disappointed.
I hate giving Bangkok Spice a bad review, but more than anything I also hate wasting money and disappointing my taste buds.
Bangkok Spice Thai Restaurant in Shrub Oak (Yorktown)
just moved to Peekskill a few months ago, hence my love for driving in the woods, lakes and all along the river. The hudson valley is truly beautiful. The next thai place on my list is ario in rhinebeck, I have heard other good things about thai angel too, but I have to agree with many, good thai food is still exclusive to the city.
i am very happy that I found this list, and I want to give kudos out to "mister bill" he put this amazing list together for places to eat at in the hudson valley. Shouts out and thank you to both of you.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks - March 9-21 (Sunday-Friday)
Thank you Mister Bill for this incredible list.
Moving up here recently from the city, I was worried that the food loving side of me would suffer, but you have given me new hope and fun on the weekends for places to go and tastes to savor.
I have been searching around for your posts, cause I feel we have a similar quality of food and taste loves, I really appreciate all of your honest posts. god bless you!!! ( my wallet and taste buds smile on you)
Bangkok Spice Thai Restaurant in Shrub Oak (Yorktown)
Awful Food!!!!
I have to agree with the first commentator, the food was awful and everything didn’t seem all that fresh. I am sorry to say, that I have had the same impression going there twice. I really wanted to give it a second chance because I am addicted to Thai food, living in Thailand for 3 months and moving up here from the city.. I was hoping it was just a bad night and wanted to give it another chance. I felt really bad when I had to return the curry. I found it was too watery and veggies soggy and overdone, with the serving of rice to be soaking wet. The fried rice and pad Thai was ok, but lacked flavor that I am use to in the city.
Being from the city, I was so excited to see a Thai restaurant finally open in this area, even if it was a 30 min drive. Before trying this place, the closest was White Plains, and I would rather drive in this area. My first time eating here was in mid December, bringing friends from the city, the second try was in mid Jan, and both times, we were very disappointed. I am still on the look out for other Thai joints in the Upper Westchester area, who have better quality food, so I would love to hear of any other posts.
