my new hamburger ranking

We will never all agree about burgers that is for sure. However, I have noticed that no one mentioned the burger at Schnipper's in Times Square. My office is near there and I go alot. The place is packed and much to my surprise they have one of the best burgers in town. It reminds me of JG Melons a bit (one of my favs). I like it better than Shake Shack which I just find too greasy and a single shack burger leaves me hungry. The Schnipper's burger is just the right size with lots of beefy flavor and always juicy. They will cook to temp and I like mine medium rare which they usually get right. At the very least, I think these guys deserve a mention and I think everyone should try their burger. Besides JG Melon, I like Stand and I just tried Black Iron which was great. And as for Corner Bistro and 5 guys, like many others, I don't think they should be on any best list.

Schnipper's

Oh, I see what you mean. Someone else tried it and liked it too. Good for them.

Schnipper's

Actually that was me - I saw it being built as I commute through Port Authority everyday. Now I fianally got to try it and I really liked it. I get excited when I have anticiaption for a place and then I finally get to eat thereand its actually good if not better than I expected. Usually I am disappointed.

Schnipper's

I tried this place finally. It looks clean and modern, maybe a little too Times Square from the outside but somehow it has a California feel to it. Awesome menu. I know I am in the right place when there are too many things I want to try (happens to me at RUB all the time). Something told me I had to go with a burger. I had a Schnipper's Classic and my friend had a good old cheeseburger. No more trekking down to the shake shack at lunch hour for me! They got the burgers right. I mean nice crust, right bun, and real tasty meat. Maybe a little more well done than I would normally like but it was still very juicy. Cheese fries were great and onion rings were the best I've had in a while. I will definitely be going back and the great part is they have a lot of other foods like salads so my gf won't complain about meeting me at a burger joint. They were pushing milkshakes which I would have had but I would have died. These people nailed it. Can;t wait to go back and try a sloppy joe. Anyone else been there?

Schnipper's Quality Kitchen

I work in the NY Times Building and there are a bunch of new restaurants coming. Dean and Deluca is coming to 40th and 8th and I noticed some cool signage yesterday for the restaurant coming to the 41st Street corner. It's called Schnipper's Quality Kitchen. Does anyone know anything about it? Their website says it's from the founders of Hale & Hearty Soups which I used to like but think it has gone downhill. I remember reading the founders left and it looks like this is their new concept. The website says it will have burgers, salads, fish tacos, mac and cheese, and sloppy joes. Interesting mix and hope it won't be just another burger place. Supposed to open in December. Hope it's good cause we need some good food around here.

deviled eggs?

Resto - not the village but on E 26th. Pretty darn good and great beers too.

Manhattan's Best Salad Bars

Dishes for sure on 54th and Park.

Hale and Hearty on Glen Cove Road, Westbury

I totally disagree. I never liked them in the city and I think this store is a joke. Panera is way better value and their sandwiches and salads are better too. The soups at H&H might be better but they are twice the price, definitely not worth it. The place looks clean but only because its new. I'd stay away from there.

RUB must haves and must avoids?

I still think RUB is one of the top BBqs in NYC. Wings can't be beat and burnt ends are to die for. I also like the fries - nice and salty. In truth, I haven't had a bad meal yet there.

Inexpensive places for soup/sandwiches?

Try either Cafe Metro or Cafe Europa if you are looking for inexpensive and everywhere. I am sure someone will reccomend Hale & Hearty, but I think they are overpriced and not nearly as good as they used to be. Also, Pret A Manger is always a good bet.

The Modern Bar Room vs. Dining Room

I recently ate at the Modern Bar Room for the first time. I have eaten in the main dining room before and enjoyed it, but I think the bar room is much better! More choices, small plates allows you to try a lot, and obviously more casual and less expensive. Does anyone else agree?
