Luke for Christmas Day? Also, CE decision.

So....I realize I'm three years late on this thread but we're thinking of NOLA for Christmas and I love to start the fantasizing way in advance. Just curious - how was that Christmas dinner at Luke and Christmas eve at Brussard's? Looking for good Christmas eats in the area. Thanks!

Athena Diner in Fleetwood is closing

Let's hope for the best. They don't seem to be in any hurry to open, that's for sure.

Good news: It looks like another restaurant is taking the place of the diner. A place called "Windmill Eatery," if I am remembering it correctly. I saw a sign in the window when out walking the other day. I think we may have escaped the franchise!! Can't wait to see the developments.

I have since found out that rumor had it that at one point Dunkin Donuts was considering occupying part of the space. I originally said it as kind of a joke but it seems that a franchise presence there is a real possibility after all. I really hope not. It would be sad to see a franchise come to what is otherwise an old fashioned shopping and restaurant block. Oh and I don't know anything about the busboy rumor - I'm glad that varsitysg is disconfirming it! My sense was that it was about $.

I couldn't agree more. It was a reliable and solid presence in the neighborhood.

Any dish on what might be replacing it? Would love another diner there but hoping that at the very least it won't be a franchise play like Dunkin Donuts or something equally evil. Fingers crossed for a decent restaurant.

I agree with Nakkos! I think the sushi is more than serviceable - some interesting rolls and the portion sizes no different from other sushi places. We've been there a few times already and will go back again. Happy to support the local businesses. In other news: it's sad that the Athena Diner is closing. We went almost every weekend - it may not have been grand but they served 5 star eggs over easy with grits. A lot of the staff don't know what they will do for work now - we'll miss them. Fingers crossed that they don't go corporate and put something awful like a Dunkin Donuts in that space. Another diner would be welcomed - I'm a real low brow and a sucker for diners that serve good eggs and waffles.
