Cafe del Rey

I went a couple of months ago and had a great meal. Daniel Roberts is still listed as the chef on the menu. I don't know when he took over, but I find his food quite good.

Chocolate Baklava?

Momed on South Beverly makes a delicious chocolate baklava. Almost like a nutty brownie with crackly chocolate phyllo on top. Has anyone seen this elsewhere? The Persian bakeries in Westwood do not make it, as far as I can tell. Is it a Turkish specialty?

Ink, LQ@SK, or Providence?

Providence. Providence. Providence.

LA's Oldest Still-Thriving Restaurants

Sad that the longest standing "Mexican" place we can come up with is Tito's Tacos. It's like an independently owned and operated Taco Bell, IMO.

Someone just told me about Chaya's history. Also, Michael's and Casa Vega.

Are there still Hamburger Hamlets out there?

Formosa! Didn't even realize it was so old... Thanks Tony.

LA's Oldest Still-Thriving Restaurants

With Angeli and Drago Santa Monica now closed, it makes me wonder about some of the oldest restaurants that are still going strong. Taix has never stood out to me, but I know there are others. What are some favorites here? Especially curious about Chinese and Mexican spots that have stood the test of time...

best tres leches cake in los angeles?

at Milk on Beverly Blvd!

Dripp Coffee Trickling In Chino Hills

Really enjoyed Dommy's write up and agree completely. Hard cookies with soft ice cream don't make a good ice cream sandwich. Dripp's butterscotch cookies are delicious with their Turkish coffee!

Wood and Vine?

Chicken & Waffles and pea gnocchi and cocktails are very good. Overall, much better than Delphine next door.

Best French onion soup?

GROM!

The Galley Santa Monica

mediocre. Good onion rings. Decent steak.

PIE MAKER like "The Waitress"? Sweets and Savories!

simplethings pie shop on West Third St has the most delicious cherry pies, peanut butter mousse and chocolate silk pies. It's very "The Waitress"...

Lukshon, A-Frame or Red Medicine

Lukshon if you want refinement, A-Frame if you want casual but extremely tasty, and Red Medicine if you like your restaurant critics outed.

Saint Amour Restaurant in Culver City

Their Beef Bourguignon has satisfied me on more than one recent rainy night. It comes with fluffy gnocchi, so it's enough food to save some for the next day too!

Fun, inexpensive dining in Orange County?

Caspian, if you don't mind a side of belly dancer with your Ghormeh Sabzi.

Where to buy Mache (lamb's lettuce) - best place?

also available at the Santa Monica Wednesday Farmer's Market and sometimes at the Sunday HW market.

Best Iranian/Persian Food in L.A.??

I've given up on everything in West LA and Westwood (unless it's at a Persian woman's home). Caspian in OC has my vote.

Lukshon - Perceptor's Photo Report

though I love foie gras, it can be ridiculously filling sometimes. nevertheless, i will return to Lukshon for that foie gras ganache. It must be done. Thank you for the photos!

Coconut Cream Pie- Los Angeles

hate to say it, but The Capital Grille in the Beverly Center has the best coconut cream pie I've ever had. I've had the ones at Urth and simplethings - but not at the Apple Pan, though I do like their apple pie - and CG's is really good, not too sweet, a little caramel-y and with a chewy cookie crust.
