making "prairie" pizza at home? [moved from Prairie Provinces]

Americas Test Kitchen has a 'pepperoni pan pizza' recipe that makes a great, thick crust. Closest crust I've made to the type you are looking for. You may have to be a member to access it but you can get the 'free trial' and then cancel.

Yeast in thin crust pizza dough - is it really necessary?

I recently took a sourdough bread class and we used the dough to make pizza and it was fabulous. No yeast at all.

Community Health Food - Crowfoot

Opened in the old Soundsaround location near Denny's. Nice, bright store. Very busy when I was in today. Great addition to the neighbourhood. They will be starting a salad/food bar in a couple of weeks.

Missed the actual location - would sure be nice if someone did something about the hideous colours now on the old Soundsaround.

White Castle Cheeseburgers in Calgary?

I think you need to be cautious about anyone hand carrying meat on to a plane over the border. We came from Orlando through customs in Toronto and the agent made us throw out our sandwiches because they contained meat. I think some would let it go but you wouldn't be happy if you had to toss them.

New Breakfast Restaurant - YYC Crowfoot

Couldn't read the name of it as I drove by but opening in the old Blockbuster Video location. They are hiring now. Picture looks a bit like Cora's (fruit, eggs) but definitely a different company.

Shitake Mushrooms---Huge Box

I love this soup - don't let it confuse you though - the only 'chicken' is the broth. I sometimes add rice noodles or thin spaghetti...

ISO easy recipe to use up overripe bananas

So simple, but both of my children love 'banana milk' - puree 2 bananas with 2 cups of milk and a couple of ice cubes in a blender. Enjoy!

Homemade taco seasoning

The 'America's Test Kitchen' recipe for Beef Tacos is excellent. It does not include corn starch.

HELP... fingers are burning from cutting jalapenos. Remedies?

You have to love Chowhound. Just pickled some jalepenos. I was wearing gloves but they were thin. I tried the sour cream, then put on a pair of gloves and poured half and half into the gloves and let my hands soak. This helped a bit. I then tried the hot water - no better - then the lime juice - no better. Finally, I tried ammonia (1 part ammonia, 4 parts water. This seems to have done the trick. It is 80% better. Thanks everyone!

Chicago Pizza And Oven Grinder Co.

We just went tonight and I have to say, both were fantastic. Four of us shared two pizza pot pies and one grinder (italian). Fantastic. I really did not expect to enjoy the pizza pot pie but it was excellent - worth trying for sure. The grinder was very good. Lots of meat, cheese and fresh tomatoes - which made it so good. Served hot. I think it is well worth a visit but expect a wait. Watching how the door man manages the crowd helps pass the time. He doesn't take any names - just somehow remembers faces and doesn't seem to mess it up.

Lay's 'Limon' Potato Chips

I did that - thanks so much. Did the same thing on our recent trip to Seattle and unfortunately, the locations it showed didn't carry them. I've printed a list and I'll cross my fingers! Much appreciated.

Smashburger Coming to YYC

We had the pickles too. They were nice and crunchy (fresh from the fryer - really hot) but inedible due to the saltiness. Disappointing. Burgers and fries (we had the 'special' fries with rosemary and olive oil) were great.

Smoked Meat

It has been a while since I bought it, but it is sold in the refrigerator section near the bacon and comes in individual, sealed pouches. You can heat in a microwave or use 'boil in a bag' method. My mom buys it and freezes it. Comes out fine. I think there are maybe 6 or 8 pouches in a box.

Sweet lemons in Edmonton

Do you mean Meyer lemons? They were widely available a few weeks ago (saw them at Safeway and Costco in Calgary - I'm sure Edmonton would be similar) but haven't seen them recently.

I am surprised it had such a following in SIlver Springs. We found the take out mediocre at best and the restaurant was filthy.
