we got a last minute offer to use a friend's cottage in eastham, ma. on cape cod. any recommendations of things to see and do? restaurants? we were told we have to check out the red inn for dinner in provincetown which i think we will do on saturday. we will be there friday-sunday. we plan to bring our bikes as i hear great things about the rail trails.

nola is probably my favorite restaurant. i try to get there whenever we go to the area. i stayed right across the street a couple of times which worked out very well.

HELP!!!

the court of two sisters right in the quarter does an amazing jazz brunch. it may be touristy but we always loved it.

and don't forget to take a ride on the trolley to the garden district.

Long wait no food Stripe Bass - Tarryown, NY

we had a problem like that several years back on our anniversary. reservation for 2 on a tuesday. we arrived on time. didn't even get a menu or water for half an hour. by the time all was said and done, we had a very good app and nothing else after almost 2 hours while others came in and had whole meals. we didn't pay for what we did have and the chef had the nerve to ask what the problem was. totally inexcusable on a slow weeknight. needless they closed shortly after.

Basement Bistro - Earlton NY

still waiting.............

maybe someday. good thing i'm not holding my breath! OY!

Traders Joe's Albany Wolf Road

apparently a variance was in order for the planned walk in addition and it was passed a few days ago so everything is a go.

WORST and BEST in SARATOGA SPRINGS

we tried the clifton park location yesterday and really liked it. it was my first time at either although my wife has been to the saratoga location.

Traders Joe's Albany Wolf Road

i guess the ham store hasn't figured out that this will bring more biz to this location. DUH!

Whole Foods coming to Albany

as price chopper has now opened a few locations in western ny, that deal may be out the window.

Whole Foods coming to Albany

we always said that after trader joe's comes whole foods and it's happening again. can wegman's be far behind?

A light in suburgatory - Pasta Pane (Clifton Park)

it's been our go to place for a while now. nice and close and consistent. we need to meet up there! the roasted shrimp app with artichokes is one of my favorite items there. it makes a nice main dish with a side pf pasta too.

Best Sushi On Long Island

my favorite sushi place is in rockville centre and goes by the name of sushi ya. it's on park ave right in the middle of everything. i'll put him up against kotobuki any time. it's not to be confused with a place by the same name in garden city. there's no connection between them. it's one of the places i miss the most since moving.

Cafe Capriccio (Albany)

i decided to send a copy of my review to the e-mail contact from the restaurant. they too thought i was not handled correctly and offered to reimburse me or send a gift certificate to come back during regular dining. i opted for the cert since i do want to see what they are like under normal conditions, especially after all the good things i'd heard.

Cafe Capriccio (Albany)

yes, i can understand they can get busy during promotions like these but that wasn't the case as far as i could tell. it seemed like a normal size crowd with nobody waiting. one of the wait staff told me that open table was supposed to change the reservation notification making it clear about the special menu but it did not happen. i had no idea it was restaurant week. i would not have chosen them for this occasion if i knew.

Cafe Capriccio (Albany)

first off let me say this was supposed to be a special birthday dinner for my wife. what a disaster. when i made the reservation there was no mention of restaurant week and only that limited menu would be offered. also, out of their control of course, it was an unusually cold night and all four app choices were cold which didn't go over well with her. she settled for rapini with white beans and i had mussels with lemon over arugula. both were good but nothing special. for my main course i had the eggplant with four cheeses. it was good but nothing more. she ordered grilled tuna with an olive tapenade. as my wife is trying to eat better and neither of us eat meat, that was her only choice from the supplied menu. the tuna was inedible and she sent it back with no replacement. she ended up having the side items only. for dessert i had tiramisu which was ok and she had chocolate orange gelato with strawberries. that was very good. overall it was not a great meal and considering how long we've waited to go, i can't say how soon we'd want to return. under normal conditions, i think they would have taken her main dish off the bill but that wasn't the case, maybe because it was a price fix? no table visit from a manager. are we the only people to ever go there and be this unsatisfied?

Cafe Capriccio (Albany)

finally going this weekend for the first time. i'll report back.

POLL: Can you walk to an actual grocery store?

we are in clifton park, ny which is half way between albany and saratoga springs. we don't have any markets within walking distance. where we used to live, nassau county, ny, we had one a few blocks away which was handy.

Trader Joe's coming to Albany

i just heard. took them long enough!! i hope that parking lot can handle it.

Where to eat OUTSIDE the FQ?

i had a friend who lived there for years and on my first trip he took me to mandina's. it was quite good. fun local place with many classics.

A light in suburgatory - Pasta Pane (Clifton Park)

we were back there this weekend and as usual had a fine meal. a new salad item was very good and refreshing; arugula with a lemon vinaigrette, crumbled goat cheese, candied pecans, dried cranberries and sliced apples. it's so good having a place like this within 5 minutes of home.

on a related note, dz is planning on opening a tapas place next year hopefully in time for track season.

ISO The best breakfast in Albany/Delmar and surrounding area

sorry to hear that. it was a good place.

i've done this one several times but subbed the caper sauce with gorgonzola butter from another recipe. it's always a big hit. of course you will need to adjust the amounts.

Yono's (Albany)

we went to dp for dinner on friday as planned. we really enjoyed everything. the chips with blue cheese sauce are very good and addicting as mentioned in the menu. we split a house salad and each had a couple of small plates. i had the amazing sesame tuna with asian slaw and a shrimp sate with pickled veggies. my friend had the tempura soft shell crab and a lamb sate. for dessert we split a vanilla cheesecake with graham cracker crust. i look forward to going back. it was a great choice before a show at the palace too.

Driving from VT to Albany on Sunday to see a movie at Spectrum 8. Where can we get a decent dinner after the movie?

if i remember correctly, the theater owners are new world's landlord. another vote for new world.
