Nice 'large' no-handle Asian tea/coffee cups?
I recently found brown porcelain Asian soup spoons at the Little Tokyo branch of Utsuwa No Yakata. Its located in the Little Tokyo Galleria. I think they're less than $3/piece.
Nice stuff.

I have a breakfast meeting in Pasadena coming up.
Any suggestions on a good place? Doesn't have to be fancy, just tasty.
Thanks!

ISO - Good Indian Rest. Brentwood or W.LA?
If you like South Indian, I like Annapurna on Venice. Not sure if that's close enough for you though. Not fancy, but yummy!

Where can I buy harissa in Los Angeles?
I brought back a jar from Fairway market in NYC, but promptly dropped it on my kitchen floor, resulting in a red pool of garlicky murder.
Where can I find some in LA?
Thanks!

Where did my scrapple go?
After having the same craving, I went on a hunt....successfully! Ralph's on Colorado in Old Town Pasadena carries Jones' brand scrapple. Not every Ralph's carries it from my experience. Call ahead.

Best Pancake Nominee?
I have discovered that the pancakes at Cedars Sinai cafeteria are not only incredibly inexpensive, but quite good. Highly recommended!

Best Pancake Nominee?
I tried Home Bakery last weekend and unfortunately couldn't muster much enthusiasm for the pancakes...maybe it was an off day but they were rather bland. Sorry.

Three Forks in Claremont?
I recall reading there was a kitchen fire there recently...might want to check out whether they're open yet.

Best Pancake Nominee?
My earlier post on Dupar's has caused me to wonder what other griddle-borne goodness may be lurking out there in the City of Angels.
Please nominate your selection for "best pancake" and also include a coherent reason why.

Whose pancakes are better? Dupars? or Griddle Cafe?

L.A.'s Newest Bamboo-made(!) Noodle Restaurant (or, Home of the Amazing Green Tea Pork Noodles!) - Bamboodles (Lian Hsiang Zhu Shen Mian) [Review] w/ Pics!
Exilekiss,
Your writing is especially evil and motivating. I've changed my weekend plans to accommodate a stop here. I'm looking forward to those green tea noodles.

Whose pancakes are better? Dupars? or Griddle Cafe?
I'm surprised at the number of Dupar's detractors. I find the pot pies to be excellent and the pancakes light and mysteriously addicting.

Whose pancakes are better? Dupars? or Griddle Cafe?
Actually, I think a short stack has 3 and a tall 5, but yes, not the cheapest in town for sure.

Wow! Really? I live in Montrose. I'll check it out!

Hounds,
Please weigh in with your thoughts on the matter!
Dupars is my all time favorite....I can't imagine there's a place better than them.
What do you think?

POLKA POLISH....
I have to agree that this is no longer the "cheap eat" place it used to be billed as. Some of the side dishes are frozen vegetable you can find at any grocery store. We had cabbage rolls which were excellent and the side sausages are delicious and a steal. The portions are huge, but would I say this is a "cheap eat"? No.

Lawton's closed!
Hounds,
Much to my dismay, I found that Lawton's at The Pike, famous for their fried clams, is closed.
Any idea what's going on?

Kagura....hmmmm.
The only real standout dish was the Duck Saikyo Yaki. Very, very tasty.
Others that sounded better in concept than in execution were the aforementioned Eggplant Age Dashi, Yuba and Mushroom, Braised Ankimo, the Matsutake Rice, Chicken Kara-age (again, excellent quality but too simple in the flavoring). Nothing about the preparation was off...just the flavors needed more spunk.
I forgot to mention that the sashimi plate was fantastic. The fish was first class all the way, and pure, creamy goodness.

Kagura....hmmmm.
I hate to write this, but I tried Kagura last week with my visiting (Japanese) mother and was a bit disappointed.
We both agreed the chef veers towards "adult" tastes (eg. not strong flavors...emphasizing the natural taste of the ingredient, eggplant tastes like eggplant, etc). This is, of course, what Japanese cooking is all about. However, what pained us was the flavors were so subdued that it was hard to find them.
That plus the prices are a good bit higher than other locales. The matsutake rice was $20 for laser thin sliced bits of mushroom that barely permeated the rice. We didn't feel like we were getting a good value.
It is clear that the chef is skilled. However, the question remains whether his skills can satisfy the Southern Californian palette.
We escaped paying over $100 for the both of us. This pained me, as I could have had at least 4 Brunello meals for the same amount!

Palate is in Glendale, far from Montrose.
Bashan, which IS in Montrose, is a fantastic alternative and perhaps the best restaurant in the area.
