Irish bars

Really, this discussion has to begin and end with Dooley's. I could go on and on, but it is the real deal and that's pretty much it.

Gotta tellya, I just don't get it in terms of the food. I was very happy with the beers and wines, but otherwise I've had the burger (average), a steak (bizarre combination with a green sauce) and the mac and cheese (rich, it's true). So maybe this is not a great sampling of dishes but three times is enough. This is a place to drink and get nosh, and grab an outdoor seat, otherwise it's hard to recommend above other choices. It was good or decent, if you need a place to go, just not worth going there for the food itself.

"Hot Tomatoes" not so Hot

You know this post is almost bizarre. Please keep in mind that Hot Tomatoes is a 'good value, good food' kind of place. It is warm, hearty, but nothing fancy. You can get sandwiches for under 10 dollars, and you can get great pizzas without waiting in line. In other words, it is not trying to compete with the major restaurants on Hanover and Salem. I have gone there a few times, a couple sandwiches and a couple pizzas, and it has been great.

One lunch in Providence

Scenic's tough in Providence (in my opinion), unless you head down to Newport. But I would go for Local 121 in terms of food. Gracie's is a sweet little dining room, and great food also. Sien is great on Federal Hill. Three Steeple is great as well, by Brown. Cav is good too, though in an odd place.

No. Mass. Pubs & Restaurants

Greetings, Foodies and Gastronomes- Can anyone give any recommendations regarding pubs (yes, fine beer can be a gastronomical delight) and restaurants in the northern MA area, especially Woburn, Andover and points in all four directions of the compass? Can we get a list going??? - Thanks a lot!

Best italian in Providence?

Sierra. I have been making the rounds of PRO restaurants for a few weeks now - I've hit a lot - and I'd say Sierra is the best Italian I've tried. Someone else mentioned Zoomah; the best thing I can say about there is the gorgeous bartenderette who works there, but the food falls short. Sierra is rich and the food inventive, and the best test is to look at the crowds there on any given night while some Fed Hill restaurants sit empty. I could go on by my vote is Sierra. I think someone should mention Panne and Vino too, further down Atwells; I had a great meal there.

Great Burger in a Magazine Street Bar

Shoot, you are certainly right; apologies to all. It really is the best place to get a burger and if it wasn't Storyville then I can't think of any place on Mag serving a burger worth remembering several years later.

Great Burger in a Magazine Street Bar

Storyville. I just had to reply to this post because of the paucity of accurate responses, I am pretty surprised really that so many people could miss the mark and not mention Storyville (though someone finally did above). They have a great burger menu, a great one. Pretty friendly and not bad looking waitresses, good beer and they, again, have a burger menu that can't be beat in this town, and I mean that literally. The parking can be tough but I think Orleanians know what to do, park on the side street and not on Magazine. Go to it, enjoy it, patronize it (the owners renovated what used to be a pretty run down dive bar), they're a good place. Right by Napolean.

Laurel Street Bakery?

It's a nice little spot. They make their own stuff, breads and pastries. Just don't be overly the gourmand, and go in and enjoy it. but it's nothing fancy or extraordinary, which is kind of nice in its own way.
