I Need 25 lbs of Italian Prune Plums (oval almost black small plums?)

Roxborough! Final batch of cakes being baked today, believe it or not, this very buttery cake tastes GREAT after being frozen! I am baking maniacally and will probably have enough for an army. I have a 60 year old Chambers stove and the oven door will not stay closed anymore (as of last week) so I have to wedge (with a hammer) a small board under the old latch to keep it closed each time I open it. Kind of hilarious AND I left the freezer door ajar and everything defrosted EXCEPT the cakes which are on the lowest level of the freezer. Bring on the wedding!!!!!!!

I'm thrilled to get them for that price.

When I went to pick them up today, the produce manager only charged me for 25 lbs instead of the 30 pound case I ordered in case there was any spoilage. The whole box is perfect, many cakes in the oven as we speak. A lovely interaction starting with chowhound and you, Philly Ray!

I called my local SR, they are out of them but are ordering a case for me for tomorrow! Points for Shoprite, a store I usually avoid.

My take on Paris Bistro in Chestnut Hill

I had a bad bread experience at the owners other restaurant Heirloom last year. I had lovely snails in a red wine sauce and the only bread offered was a basket of sweet corn bread and another sweetened bread. When the chef came to ask us how we liked our meal I said that I would have loved a baguette to sop up the sauce. (Metropolitan bakery within eyeshot of Heirloom at that time.) He told me they prefer to bake all of the bread in house. I will not go back, bread absolutely indicates the sensibility of a restaurant to me. Often bread is the fiirst thing you eat and absolutely sets the tone for a restaurant meal. These days there is some SPECTACULR bread out there, there is no excuse for crappy bread.

I am baking many plum cakes for my daughters wedding and need a source for these particular plums. Anyone seen them around lately?

THANKS!

Distrito drowning........ in queso!

$80 for a truly mediocre meal in a place where I expect more, I admire Jose Garces, have eaten at most of his places, he needs to get into this kitchen and taste a few things, I've had a few really good meals here in the past.

The trio of enchiladas and the huarache (which is now a pizza or flat bread if you ask me) relied on cheese way too much. Cheese is an easy palate pleaser, I love real Mexican food and want complex flavors from veggies, meat, tortillas ,chiles and herbs more than just the easy mouth feel and richness that cheese provides, it's cheating. Tortillas are an important flavor component and these were a bit soggy and not rich with corn flavor. They accidently charged us for something twice and didn't have the ceviche that I ordered. Don't care if it was Sunday night and half the place was closed, no excuse for meh food from this restauranteur (maybe he has too many restaurants) and this much $. The waiter was lovely!

ENTENMANNS IS FINISHED!

Good think my maternal grandparents aren't alive to see this!!!!!!!!!
My family ate SO much Entenmanns. Every scrabble and pinochle game, every break the fast, every shiva! I loved the frosted raspberry twist danish.
I bet Entenmanns is the sole cause of alot of Jewish diabetes.

Freeze them solid and grate them over ANYTHING that you eat. This also affords you the chance to have them all year long after the season is over. I'd kill for a meyer lemon tree!

I have make preserved lemons all the time. Meyer lemons are most like Moroccan lemons in that the skin is softer and the lemons are less acidic.

The grower suggests freezing the whole lemon solid and then grating it over your food! So easy to grate this way.

These are right from the grower! No middleman. That's how we keep farmers alive, I personally don't care about saving a quarter.
