Bombili Dry Chili Fish from Sri Lanka -- Question

I picked up a jar of Larich's Bombili Dry Chilli Fish from Sri Lanka at India Sweets and Spices in Atwater. This stuff smells like feet and tastes absolutely delicious right out of the bottle.

What is it actually used for? Or what does it go with? I couldn't find anything online.

Thanks!

Anyone been to the Parkway Grill in Pasadena in the last year or two?

The lady and I are looking for something fancy. Weirdly, I see almost no mention of this restraunt here.

Any opinions? Other recs within easy driving range? Again, she wants something she can wear a nice dress to, and I want the best food possible that meets her requirement.

The next day, I'll be back to eating Pho in El Monte.

Many thanks!

Good food between Palm Springs and Pomona on I-10?

Hey all,

Every weekend I drive from Palm Springs to West LA, and the first hour is just a slice of hell on the I-10. I go through Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, Redlands, Loma Linda, Rialto, and Ontario.

Other than Redlands, which seems ok except for the smog, the entire trip is just Mad-Max. Once I get to the Pomona area, I know where some good places are, but everything before that is just a vague wasteland. I generally end up eating at the wonderful Chinese places in Monterey Park.

Are there any hidden jewels on that first hour of the I-10?

I am a true omnivore. If there is a great truck-stop along the way, that would be super-cool. It doesn't have to be trendy or fancy. Just really good.

Fresh cheap lobster in LA? or online?

Hey all,

I've been reading on the NY Times and other places that lobster prices are at a 25-year low in Maine. I don't see any price difference in the prices here in LA, though. Santa Monica Seafood is obviously pocketing the difference.

One thing I love to do is get the east coast lobsters and then grill them baja west-coast style with drawn butter, cilantro, limes, and flour tortillas. The sweetness of the Maine lobster is a great combination with the smokey baja-style prep.

Anyway, has anyone found cheap Maine lobsters out here? Or maybe a restaurant serving it for cheap?

Where to go for Mexico CITY cooking in LA?

Hey all,

Where can I find high-end Mexico CITY food in LA?

I have in mind that wonderful soup/sauce made with the fungus from corn, and several other dishes that I only seem to find in the best restaraunts in Mexico City. The cooking at Aguila y Sol in Ciudad, for example.

I've found tons of great regular Mexican restaraunts in LA, but they are mostly just upscale streeet food -- nothing like the the best of Mexico City. (And yes I've been to Ciudad in LA several times, and it is fine but not great, IMHO.)

Thank you for any recommendations!
