Best Italian Hot Dogs in NJ??

Frankly Burgers & More in Freehold Township has an EXCELLENT Italian hot dog,

dare I say....I liked it better than Jimmy Buff's whose potatoes were a bit too large and undercooked for my liking. Although, the pizza bread at JBs was better. This does not mean that the pizza bread at Frankly is bad, I just liked JBs bread better. Everything else on the Frankly Burgers & More Italian Hot Dog was more to my liking, the onions, potatoes & peppers. They use the Syds dog there, so the dog is the same as JBs. mho!

Hi Tapas,

Are you coming on the 2011 NJ Hot Dog Tour?

Just asking because once you have completed a day listening to our fine "hotdoglover" educating us on the finer points of hot dogs, you will never have to wonder about
what kind of dog you are eating. You will be an active participant in everything hot doggy!

I should know...I am one of the enlightened ones.

PS....How many different types of mustard does this cart in Jackson have?

Gables, L'Assiette, other on LBI?

Give La Spiaggia right off the causeway in Ship Bottom a try.
Classy Italian food, great service.

I would skip Gables. Every time I try it, I am very disappointed.
Needless to say, I wont be trying it again.

Ferdinand's in Hightstown

I went to Fernando's Grille for lunch a few weeks ago. The service was good and the food was very nicely prepared. I did think the pea soup had a bit too much of a cumin flair for my tastes, but I am not a fan of cumin. I had a salmon over rice pilaf that was very nicely done. I will give them another try.

I agree, La Spiaggia is definitely my favorite fine dining experience down in LBI.

I took some pictures last week when I was there. I hope you can view them w/ this link.

Long Beach Island, NJ?

La Spiaggia is the best on the north end of the island....IMO.
These past few summers, they have really upped their game. I am continually impressed with the quality of food and service. Also, the atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming.

Which brings me to Yellowfin....

Yellowfin has good food, but the service is very iffy. If you are not part of the "in crowd" they treat you like crap! I dont know exactly what the "in crowd" is for them...I guess Im just not a trendy enough hipster, but my husband and I like to eat and spend tons when we go out. Cant get more "in" then that! I never felt welcomed there and the atmosphere SUX unless you like being crammed in this small locale like a tin of sardines.

I do enjoy Plate. The food is consistently good and the service is nice. The restaurant is roomy and pleasant. I would go to Plate over Yellowfin any day of the week.

BOOM is now Jersey Shore BBQ

My husband and I stopped in at JSBBQ last week. The food was great!...but not without the minor issues of a business opened for about 1 week. We entered, sat, and then were quickly approached by the owner, who informed us that he sold out of pretty much everything the night before, and since it takes 12 hrs to get his meat just right, he was low on certain items. We were there for a very late lunch. He told us what was available, pulled pork, ribs and brisket, and since we love all 3 of those things, we were like YAY! Those weren't the only 3 things available, as he has plenty of smoked chicken and other items.

We ordered nachos, which had black beans, kidney beans, smoked meats, and lots of cheese on them. Their chips are made in house, but are not tortilla chips, but some fried dough triangles which are given at every table also, with salsa. I do not recommend the nachos, but I must say, I sampled the smoked chicken in this dish and it was amazing! As for the salsa that came with the basket of chips they presented to us when we sat down, it is fresh, spicy and very tasty.

We also had the monmouth trifecta which consisted of the 3 meats the chef informed us were still available. The pulled pork is great, the pork ribs were great and the brisket was great. I will definitely go back to JSBBQ to try their baby back ribs and other things. The meats were smoked just right and the sauce on them was so tasty, not overpowering, not too sweet. On the table was a bottle of vinegar and their bbq sauce. I used both and they both enhanced the meat without killing the taste.

We also shared a piece of their Key Lime Pie. It is made in house, and tastes very authentic. Not too sweet, a nice graham cracker crust and lime zest delicately sprinkled on the top. A great finish to a wonderful lunch.

The owner is a very likable guy and I really do hope they succeed.

I took pictures!!!!

PS...I forgot to mention the sides, which, sorry to say, were pretty forgettable. We had two: The macaroni & cheese needs more oomph. I'm not a big mac & cheese fan to begin with but when it is good it is good and when it isn't, well....then I wish I didn't order it and that was the case here. We also had the onion rings, which had too much of a beer batter taste for me. I did not take pictures of the sides, sorry.

Frankly Burgers and More in Freehold

Frankly does take out and delivers, but they have plenty of tables for sitting and chilling. The tables are always immaculate, as is the whole store. I have never done take out from Frankly, but always go to eat there. Actually, once when I was eating there w/ my husband, I placed a take out order to bring home for my daughter.

We tried the Jersey Shore Cheesesteak yesterday. It has the addition of pork roll. Excellent! They also have a Jersey Shore burger w/ the pork roll. Both are great! Frankly never disappoints!

Frankly Burgers and More in Freehold

My husband and I had yet another great casual dining experience at FB&M tonight. We shared a pulled pork and the cheesesteak, both were great, but I have to make mention of exactly how great the cheesesteaks are at Frankly. If you like cheese steaks, you MUST give this one a try. The bread on both sandwiches was excellent. Frankly has excellent bread for their sandwiches. The pulled pork was on a crusty kaiser roll and the cheese steak comes on a great Italian unseeded hero roll. The pulled pork's roll had such a crusty brown top, yet inside it was so soft. I think the cheesesteak at FB&M is one of the best Ive ever had, and Ive had all the "good" ones in Philly.

We also had an order of hot wings that were amazingly good! Spicy but not killer, fried just right. The wing size was very good, not huge and not tiny, and they had plenty of meat on them. I suggest you try these too if you are a buffalo wing lover!

If you haven't been to Frankly yet, you really should go! Especially if you are nearby.

Also...kudos to the owner for being open on the day of the blizzard! My husband and I had plowed/shovelled the driveway and there was no way I wanted to cook, I was exhausted. I was SO happy FB&M was open! TY Frankly!!!!

Restaurant David Drake - What's Up?

no, I dont blame David Drake for the closing of his restaurant, I blame the economy. He had to leave dD because he could no longer pay himself a salary. He sought out a full time job at Alice's so he could support himself and his family. That is the business! Up until the end, and I was there a week before it closed, everything was still top notch. Service did not decline, the food did not suffer. Maybe he was spread a bit thin, but I dont see it like that. What I saw was a successful chef trying to be a successful chef. meh, my opinion...and you know what they say about opinions right?

Frankly Burgers and More in Freehold

FB&M has EXCELLENT soups and many choices available. They are home made and each one that I have tried is just as good as the next. I will, however, make a special mention for the beef/barley, it is unctuous and full of comforting goodness. This weather is the PERFECT time to get some nice hot and delicious soup as well as a great dog or burger. These soups really warm your insides. I cant wait to try the varieties I havent tasted yet.

Bistro Soleil in Hightstown, NJ

Im so glad you went, this place is a gem. I was worried when the Bistro Soleil thread turned into a Blue Point Grill thread that you might have changed your mind. I went just about every Tuesday this past summer for their Jersey Fresh Menu and most of the time it was excellent! Bistro Soleil is a GREAT value for very, very good food....but the service can be iffy.
