Have any Chowhound Faves Broken Your Heart
Agreed! I had dinner the next night at Factor's Deli and had a far better experience for less than a tenth of the price.

Providence!! I can't believe how popular it is here on Chow. I went there based on the strength of the reviews here. I found the food bland to mediocre. $500 for the four of us, and nobody was truly impressed. Wine list was excellent, and the service was great... but the food was generally bland and unappetizing. We did enjoy the amuse bouche, though.
Robata, soba, ramen in So Cal?
I forgot about this thread until I had a recent craving for Ramen. I'm going to give Oki Doki a shot, Prof Salt! Thanks!

Robata, soba, ramen in So Cal?
Wow, thanks for all the excellent info! I'm definitely going to give Otafuku a try... I didn't know Katsuya in Brentwood had robata, thought it was just sushi like the one in the valley. I'll give that a try as well.
Robata, soba, ramen in So Cal?
Ever since I've been to Tokyo I've been seriously missing fresh robata grills, soba, and ramen. It's just not the same here in my experience. A lot of the noodle places I've tried seem to include pork in most of their dishes but I'm not a fan of the "other white meat"... does anybody have some good, authentic restaurant suggestions in the LA area?
Microwave alternative?
What make/model is the micro/convection? I used my toaster oven frequently, till it died a few months ago...
Microwave alternative?
Thanks Miss Needle... I'm sure I will get those responses. But I lost a grandma recently to a VERY aggressive cancer when we had no family history. Every day there is more evidence that the things we thought were safe are in fact risk factors for disease (vaccines and autism is the most recent-- heck, even smoking was once thought to be safe). I'll err on the side of caution and take the heat for it. :-)
I've thought about getting rid of the microwave altogether, but my fiance likes the convenience of it. I was thinking that the microwaves with convection alternative might be a good compromise, but I wonder if you can use the convection option without the microwave part?
Microwave alternative?
Hi, new to the board, what a great resource...
I'm wondering if there is a "cleaner" alternative to a microwave that doesn't cook with radiation. The only thing I've found so far are mini convection ovens, or micro/convection combos. Are these a good alternative?
From what I've read, microwaving kills the nutrients in foods. Also, I'm trying to get rid of anything in my life that might cause sickness down the road... there's something I don't trust about having radiation cooking in my kitchen.
Any insight would be appreciated!
