Funny you mentioned Villabate. I am a big fan of Villabate.My wifes favorite cake is strawberry short cake and last year we ordered one from Villabate and nobody liked it.

Blue on Staten Island
Went to Blue on Saturday night. The place is fixed up very nice. We ware five if us. The wait for a table was one hour. The place and bar is very crowded, and very noisy. As to the food, the food was great. We had for apps the seared tuna w/wasabi, grilled calamari, crab fritters and mussels, all very good. For mains three had the whole sea bass, I had the ribeye, and my granddaughter had the seared tuna, all very good. Only complaint is the noise level, you cant here yourself talking. Enjoy if you go.

It is all personal taste like i said. I dont knock anybodys opinion, just give mine. Certain people love certain restaurants and go back to them. I go back to the restaurants that I like also. I also enjoy Kyclades fish very much. Have been to Milos in Manhattan with very inflated prices and find it no better than the Greek places in Astoria.

Everything you dislike I like. I like the Greek salad and I think the fish is really good. Obviouly you and I have different tastes. Thats about it. You bring up Olive Garden and Cheesecake Factory. Obviously some people like them. I am not one of them. Each to his own.

Each to his own. You are entitled to your opinion. People dont wait on line at Kyclades because the food is bad.

I have to differ with you. I find Kyclades to be by far the best in Astoria. I live in Bay Ridge and have eaten at Agnanti there and in Astoria and find Kyclades heads and shoulders above it.

If Ithey didn't call after the second call with a yes or no answer that would be the end of it for me. If I were you I would never go back. There are plenty of other great restaurants in NY and if this is their policy I would definitely forget about them. It is not a matter of food, it is a matter of principal, especially you being a good customer.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Most chowhounders find Bonnie's Burger great. I personally think it is one of the most overrated burgers anywhere.

Highly recommend Taverna Kyclades. All the hype is not for naught in my opinion. I have eaten in Mylos and don't think it is any better. It is all in the individuals tastes.

Tov U'mtavim (dont know exact spelling) on the corner of Avenue M and Nostrand has very good gefilte fish and take out. The place is also exceptionally clean.

more Brooklyn Fairway disappointment
I went to Fairway on Saturday. True like all markets the prices have spiked tremendoulsly. I was at Zabars a week ago and the nova scotia salmon is up to $9 a quarter of a lb. Fairways is much less. I still would rather pay the difference at Zabar because I think they have the best smoked salmon. I live in Bay Ridge and my local market is Foodtown on 3rd Ave and 91st Street/. On brand items like Alpine Lace cheese, Boars Head Ovenroast chicken for example and other brand stuff Fairway is much cheaper. However on the gourmet items they are more expensive but carry much more and better stuff than Foodtown. They also run specials on prime meats which are well worth.

I know you usually recommend good restaurants and know you like good food.. You really have to try Fairway and give your opinion of it. It is really far superior to any of the supermarkets. As good if not better than most of the real expensive stores. Everybody has different opinions. I like the store very much.

Fairway is by far the best supermarket in Brooklyn. There deli counter, appetizing counter, cheese counter, fish counter and meet counter are far superior to any supermarket in Brooklyn. They also have anything you need, one stop shopping instead of shlepping here and there and wasting gas.
Good Italian (Staten Island?)
Have to agree with Tay about Trattoria Romano, really great food. Not that fond of Da Noi. Don't like Basilio.
