mother's day brunch cambridge/somerville??

Hi all,

Will be visiting my sister in Somerville (right near Porter) on the 12/13th and our mom is going to come join us on Sunday. I'm trying to find a brunch spot in the area where they take reservations, but not too pricey. Outdoor seating would be a fantastic plus in case it's nice out. Help please!

in need of your expert advice

hello all!

nothing too complicated but im looking for a good (preferably great) lunch spot somewhere downtown- thinking the village or soho. definitely not fancy, if it could come to under $15 a person that would be great. we just want something tasty and somewhere comfortable and relaxed to sit. extra plus if they have outdoor seating in case it's nice out.

thanks in advance!

Surprise party in New Haven area

I definitely second Barcelona. Great atmosphere for a party and with that number of people you could probably try one of everything!

books good enough to eat

i dont know if this is technically the correct board to post this question on so please redirect me if needed. i would love to gather some recommendations on great food-centered writing; i particularly enjoy memoirs. i have read:

tender at the bone
comfort me with apples
garlic and sapphires
julie and julia
toast
like water for chocolate
kitchen confidential

and i started climbing the mango trees but really didn't like it.

any suggestions would be appreciated!

Best ice cream places within 10 miles of Downtown New Haven?

It might be a little farther but Sweet Claude's in Cheshire is quite good

Short leash in Cambridge

Def Crema Cafe, also Veggie planet might work for you. They have all sorts of vegetarian combos you can have as a pizza or over rice.

Restaurant amnesia

It definitely looks like it was Dante. Are there Warhol prints in the hall to the bathroom? I obviously have a very visual memory :)

Restaurant amnesia

I'm trying to remember the name of a restaurant I went to a couple of years ago. I think it was new-ish at the time. I remember it being in the Kendall/MIT area, definitely in a hotel. I believe it was Italian inspired. FANTASTIC food, very large/funky paintings on the wall, dim lighting. I know that's not much but any help would be appreciated!

Dinner for my 21st?

I'm planning on going out to dinner for my 21st birthday this month with about 10 friends. While I am very excited and would be willing to spend a bit more, I don't know if that's fair to ask of everyone. Either way (cheaper or higher priced) I'd like somewhere in the greater Cambridge area (Cambridge/Medford/Somerville/Arlington etc...) that would be delicious as well as having a fun atmosphere and a good drink menu for the of-age members of the party. Thank you in advance!

Also, places I've been and liked, although I'd like to try somewhere new:
Bistro 5
Salts
Rendezvous
The Elephant Walk
(all probably too pricey for this dinner anyway)

Help for the dietarily restricted please!

My family is planning on taking me out to dinner in the city for my birthday in a couple of weeks. I am definitely excited but the only problem is that I am currently on a sugar-detox diet for health reasons. This means no sugar, no carbs, no fruit, etc. I would greatly appreciate any restaurant suggestions where I could possibly find something tasty to eat and not break my diet. Anywhere in Manhattan is fine. Moderate prices would be preferred as well as somewhere fun with a good atmosphere for the special occasion. Thanks in advance!!!

New fun topic. What was the worst dish you've had and where

most disappointing dish ever at gargoyle's in davis square. i had heard such good things and ordered a fried goat cheese ravioli dish with some sort of lovely sauce. what showed up were greasy, heavily-breaded ricotta ravioli without a hint of goat cheese doused in regular marinara. SO LAME. in addition the bf's asian-inspired duck dish tasted no better than any chinese takeout.

sidenote: have people had similar bad experiences at gargoyle's? i've only heard positive reviews.

Restaurant Week!

Just discovered that Restaurant Week Boston starts in a few days and I was wondering about trying it out. I'd love to hear about some experiences people have had- does the food get downgraded because of the prices and increased volume? How about L'Espalier? I'm dying to go there before they move but there's absolutely no way I could afford it otherwise (as a passionate but poor college student). Any feedback would be appreciated!

Where have you always had a bad meal?

I agree about The Asgard- definitely the worst food I've ever been served in a restaurant. I've had better beef stew out of a can. I'm also continually disappointed with Redbones- really bad service, really mediocre food.
