Good eats near Hilton Chicago (S. Michigan & E. 8th)

Thank you so much for all the ideas

Good eats near Hilton Chicago (S. Michigan & E. 8th)

I'll be visiting Chicago from Toronto and I'm looking for good eats near the Hilton Chicago on South Michgan and E. 8th St.

I'd love suggestions for good cheap eats, but also a nice moderate priced places.

I love almost anything, but food unique to Chicago, or at least good quality and in Chicago would be great: perhaps Chicago deep dish pizza, Soul?, Cajun or Creole..is that possible?

Thank you

ISO PORTUGUESE BAKERY IN TORONTO WITH CUSTARD TARTS

I'm looking for the small portuguese tarts (I think they are called flan tarts, but not sure; they have a caramel look on top) that I've seen in bakeries from time to time. Now that I need some I can't remember where I saw them.

Can anyone help?

Which is best? Brunch or Dinner at Le Champlain at Hotel Frontenac

I'm going to Quebec City in a few weeks and want to make a reservation at the "Le Champlain" Restaurant in the Hotel Frontenac.

If anyone has been to the restaurant recently I would appreciate any comments.

Which is better? Brunch or Dinner?

10th anniversary help needed

We will we celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, and to celebrate we are planning a 10 day vacation to Montreal and Quebec City. In Montreal we'll be staying near the Gay Village, and in Quebec City we'll be staying in the old town section.

We were looking for advice for restaurants for a special high end experience, and as well some restaurants for casual evenings and lunches.

I've been told about a few places to consider such as Voodoo grill in Quebec City, and Europea in Montreal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Detroit & Royal Oak area, Michigan, this weekend - help with foodie finds, esp. Mexican

I'm also from Toronto and go to Royal Oak to visit friends. If you want something different Howe's Bayou in Ferndale is close to Royal Oak and offers a cajun/creole flavour that is difficult to find in Toronto. It's a casual place with friendly staff in my opinion.

Tasty Eats in the woodley Park/Zoo or Dupont Circle area

I'm from Toronto Canada and I'm going to a convention for a week on Monday. I'm hoping for suggestions on some tasty eats in the Woodley Park/zoo or Dupont Circle area of
Washington.

I'd love a couple of cheap eateries and a couple of finer dining places for a special night out.

I love all ethnic foods and love something new. Mexican and Thai are my favourties.

Thanks

Can I ask about the prix fixe menu? What items were on it?

What is the best Sunday Champagne Brunch in Las Vegas

anyone care to chime in

What is the best Sunday Champagne Brunch in Las Vegas

I'll soon be headed to Las Vegas and I'd love to enjoy the best Sunday Champagne Brunch. A number of years ago I went to the Bally's Sterling Brunch and loved it, but I'm wondering if this is still the best of the bunch for a Champagne Brunch.

I've read about Bellagio, Wynn, and others but need some up to date help here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lunch at Jarvis and Carlton

Daybreak is actually at the southeast corner of Church St. and Carlton St.

Scaramouche- what to order?

Scallops are delicious. White asparagus in hollandaise is delicous in season. Lamb is to die for, and perfectly cooked medium rare. Coconut cream pie and meyer lemon desserts are made in heaven.

That's my take.

Lunch at Jarvis and Carlton

I didn't know about this place....I'll check it out soon!!

Lunch at Jarvis and Carlton

In the immediate area of Jarvis and Carlton your choices are none existant in my opinion. Casey's restaurant is at the Grande Hotel which is located at 225 Jarvis st. This a decent very casual chain restaurant.

The Salad King is on Gould Street, just a few stores east of Yonge Street and serves tasty Thai food in a busy, hectic, chic Ponderosa atmosphere. Note that the name does not suggest vegetarian or such....it is Thai.

Linda's is a restaurant by the same owner in the upper portion of the Salad King. This is a much quieter and nicer place. Check to make sure it is open. (416) 971-7041.

There are restaurants in the Gay village if you wish to venture there. Anywhere north of Alexander to Dundonald along Church St. offer a number of different choices of typically casual fare.

Two days in Toronto, where to eat?

I went to George for my 50th birthday and the tasting menu was spectacular. I wouldn't miss it!!

Visitor from Toronto needs advice

Thank you for your replies. I should have mentioned in my original post that I am willing to go outside the Chelsea area if its worth the trip. Just don't want to venture outside of Manhatten really. Perhaps on my next visit I'll hit Queens etc.

Visitor from Toronto needs advice

I will be visiting Manhatten in late October and I really need some recommendations near the Chelsea area of Manhatten.

I love all foods, but I'm hoping to focus on foods that are not really done well in Toronto. I prefer food on the spicy side.

Mexican is one example.
Spanish is another.
Something very typically New York would be nice.
Maybe Moroccan...never had that before.
I'm sure there are some real interesting cuisines out there that are available in NYC but rarely elsewhere on the continent.

We plan to eat reasonable for most of our trip but do plan a nice evening out, with a view of the city...any suggestions?

Thank you

Review: Camarra

It's been quite a long time since I last dined at this restaurant--perhaps 15 years ago, so it was inevitable that there have been changes since my last visit.

On the good side, the food is still the star at Camarra. There were three in our party of friends: 1 gal and 2 guys.
I had a campari and soda to start. The drink was well made and boozy enough and an orange wheel so I was happy. We all shared an antipasti appetizer which really was very tasty. The platter contained salametto, prosciutto, asiago and swiss cheeses, marinated mushrooms, grilled vegetables, roasted red peppers and olives.

One of us had the baked eggplant as an entree. One of the others had the Pizza Capricciosa, and the other made up her own pizza. All the pizzas were made as requested and delicious.

On to the service. Well, let's say it sucked.
The first surprise was that they had no record of the reservation I had made the day before. They looked at me like I had made it up or something. The host suggested the back, luckily we weren't seated there so I didn't have to start a confrontation.

The waiter was full of himself, and came across as a know-it-all. Funny as he poured the wine for our female friend last. The pizzas arrived at the same time at which time he explained that he forgot to to send the order for the eggplant to the chef. His tone wasn't even apologetic, more matter of fact. It wasn't my dish so I left it to my friend to raise a complaint about the lateness but alas he did not, so I left it alone. The service was cold throughout our meal.

Later one of our party asked some Italian friends about this restaurant. Sadly, they reported that they had been to the restaurant for a birthday party months before and indicated that the service was poor for their party of 6.

My recommendation: Don't eat in at this restaurant. If you love the food, then order take-out. Sadly I won't be going back to eat at the restaurant again, that's for sure. Too afraid of getting that nose-in-the-air-waiter.

Question about a avocado-mayo-lemon spread

I'm planning a picnic lunch in a few days and have a great recipe for a chicken sandwich with avocados, lemon juice and mayo among a few other herbs etc.

What I'm wondering is: Will a sandwich with avocado with lemon juice and mayo in a good cooler stay fresh for 3 or 4 hours or so?

I'm hoping the avocado doesn't turn brown on me while in transit to the picnic.

Can anyone offer advice on this?

Restaurants in Lewiston NY, and Niagara Falls NY

I'm planning a short trip to the Niagara Region and hoped to try a few restaurants in Lewiston NY and Niagara Falls NY.

I'm not looking for anything super fancy. A nice place to eat is important with good food.

Any ideas?

Review: Canoe for summerlicious

After all the effort needed to get a reservation at Canoe I had to ask myself if it was really worth it.
YES, it was.

We had the wine pairings to match each course.

We started dinner with a Kir Royale which was delicious.

Our appetizer was a chilled maritime shrimp and scallop salad with greens, wax beans, and raspberry vinaigrette. Full of flavour and again delicious. Wine match was a Pinot Grigio from Italy; nice and refreshing.

The main entree was Black Pepper and Maple Spiced Ontario Lamb Rump with Israeli couscous, sugar snaps and garlic rosemary jus. Perfectly cooked to medium rare. The wine match was perfect: syrah from sicily; never had that before.

Our dessert was a caramelized meyer lemon tart with basil meringue and raspberry sorbet. YUM!!
And a wine to match too: a sweet riesling from Ontario, also delicious.

Our server Michael was professional and courteous.
The view was spectacular and right beside the kitchen and not noisy. Fantastic!!
Although it was mostly cloudy when we left home to go to the restaurant the clouds pulled aside enough for us to really enjoy great views of Lake Ontario, the downtown, and the western side of T.O.

Can't wait to go back
Compliments to all the staff i ran into really; everyone was so so nice.

Southern Accents - Summerlicious

I've always wanted to try Southern Accent but was a little wary of Cajun/Creole this far north of New Orleans, and at expensive prices and small portions to boot.

I've had better luck eating at Cajun/creole in Detroit of all places, or even Cleveland.

I'll take your advice and wait till my next trip south.

Seasoned Pork chops--what exactly does this mean?

I'm confused by this term.
What exactly is added to pork chops when they are labelled as "seasoned pork chops"

Where to buy good lump crab meat in Royal Oak MI area

I'm visiting friends in the Royal Oak MI area in a few weeks. I currently live in Toronto where its downright difficult to find lump crab meat.

Can anyone give some suggestions where to find good quality lump crab meat in the Royal Oak area?

thanks

Fuzion - Summerlicious 2008: Okay, but...

I was kind of excited about Fuzion a year ago with the new Oprah chef, so I went with a friend for my birthday.
Service was OK, but nothing special. My appetizer was great, the main was OK. What bugged me was that a wine that was suggested by the server was a dud.
My friend called the server over twice to calmly complain that there was way too much salt in his main entree. The server shrugged his shoulders and never offered any explanation or anything.

We haven't been back since and don't intend to unless things change. I still see that same server when I pass by on Church St.

George--what kind of experience can i expect?

I've decided to go to George for my 50th birthday in early July.
My twin brother and I will be going.

What kind of experience at George can I expect?

Can I expect kind courteous unpretentious service. Can I expect an interesting tasting menu with matching wines. I don't expect huge portions but feeling full after an expensive meal is a good bet. I understand the patio is beautiful although I've never seen it.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Summerlicious 2008 must try restaurants

After much patience and persistence I finally got through and made a reservation at Canoe for dinner. I called this morning for 1/2 hour and after lunch for 1/2 hour, but at 2 pm I called again and finally got through to a tape. The tape warned about the high volume of calls and to be patient. Next the voice indicated to press 1 for a summerlicious host. Finally after about 25 minutes a live voice came on the phone and I got my reservation and she was so very cheerful I forgot about the long waits.
So there you go....I'm off to Canoe for summerlicious :)

Summerlicious 2008 must try restaurants

I strongly recommend Batifole. I've been to summerlicious and winterlicious and have always enjoyed every meal. The restaurant is very casual and the tables a bit close, but the food is the star here....you'll really enjoy eating.
A huge list of wines from all over France.
