The new Allen's? (Athens, GA)
There are always rumors about The Grill. As far as I know, it's staying open. I find the burgers occasionally disappointing, but I like the atmosphere. Best burgers in Athens are at The National (when they have it) and White Tiger Gourmet (the happytop).
Athens, GA - updates, anybody?
I prefer Siri for Thai in Athens. It also has its problems. Yes, if you want Indian food and you don't want to drive to Atlanta (or its suburbs), you should go to Taste of India. I have had worse, and I have had far better not all that far away. Neither has a ton of competition in town.
Athens, GA - updates, anybody?
Or okay middle-of-the-road Thai and Indian food... neither is terrible. Neither is great. Thai Spoon is pretty weak on its tofu and sue gai.
Are there ANY good cockails in Athens?
Try the National.
There are a lot more options in Atlanta (Drinkshop, JCT Kitchen & Bar, etc.).
Athens, GA - Ciabatta/focaccia, red pepper salad?
It sells Luna bread because it _is_ Luna bakery, basically.
Anyone been to the Woodfire Grill in ATL recently?
Knife & Fork just updated it with a very positive review.
Authentic Italian in Athens, Georgia
La Dolce Vita. Downtown on Broad Street, upstairs from Broad Street Bar & Grill.
BBQ in Atlanta
Dang. If you're in Lawrenceville, hit up Hometown BBQ on Gwinnett Scenic Highway. My vote for the best even close to Atlanta. Not great sauce, but it doesn't need it.
Wine Scene in Athens, GA
Second on Gosford. Great cheap selection. Have not had a bad bottle from there. I also like Village Wine and Spirits on the Eastside.
Need BEST affordable Ethnic Dinner in ATL
Saravanaa Bhavan on Lawrenceville Highway, although the niceness of the atmosphere is not so much. _How_ nice?
2 Nights in Atlanta ?
I believe so: http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/impromptu_dining_at_la_pietra_cucina/Content?oid=621293
2 Nights in Atlanta ?
You might try La Pietra Cucina at 1545 Peachtree. Not open much for dinner and kind of a weird operation, but supposedly really good, not to mention it's where the chef from the upcoming Craft is keeping busy for now.
Athens, GA - Cozy Yum Yum
I'm not the only person who's had some pretty messed up curry there. They have issues with overcooking or undercooking ingredients in them. Crunchy potatoes = not good. Now, it's possible that problem has since been corrected, but I'm not talking about a misbalance of spices or something subtle like that.
Visiting Atlanta for the first time!
You should probably hit Cuerno, which is in Midtown: http://www.sottosottorestaurant.com/
Athens, GA - Cozy Yum Yum
I'm not sure that inconsistency is the problem so much as some things just not being good. For example: crunchy potatoes = bad.
Athens, GA - Cozy Yum Yum
I think they _do_ have a squid salad. But maybe it's a different kind.
Athens, GA - Cozy Yum Yum
Um, I would warn you against ordering a curry. That seems to be the serious weakness of the restaurant.
Athens, GA: Heresy!
I'm not saying I don't think their food is flavorful and complex. That fried Twinkie knocked my freaking socks off. I think it's an absolutely delicious and authentic restaurant. But the flavors might go a couple of places, not like five, or more. If you keep chewing, do you get a new flavor? Not so much.
I haven't been to Pura Vida in Atlanta, but my guess is that it bears the same kind of relationship to a place like Sabor Latino that Five and Ten does to traditional southern restaurants. It takes that simple, delicious food and, without losing what makes it special, does something unexpected with it.
Athens, GA: Heresy!
Really? More nuance? I love Sabor Latino, but it's not the subtlest restaurant in Athens.
Order things that sound interesting, as though the kitchen's goofing around with them, or that contain ingredients you wouldn't expect (redneck risotto, watemelon and feta sandwich, the anchovy snackie). Soup tends to be marvelous, as does fish and anything porky or innardy. As with pretty much all restaurants, appetizers tend to be more reliably interesting than entrees, as you don't have to base them around a hunk of protein (no matter how delicious that hunk is).
This advice holds true for ordering in _any_ nice restaurant.
Searching for best breakfast in Athens
I'm definitely a fan of the Five Star Day breakfast, although it can take interminably long to get your food at times.
Great food in Atlanta? [moved from Elsewhere board]
I'd say Holeman & Finch for the first (and a little bit the second from what I hear) and Watershed for the second.
