Authentic Greek Yogurt

LOL, you'd have more luck establishing a legal pot cartel. Fage is by far the best I've had and so far I have tried every single greek yogurt brand I could find in Alberta.

Smashburger Coming to YYC

I had the bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, rosemary fries, fried pickles and milkshake. Everything was very good especially the milkshake. However the rings, pickles were a tad on the greasy side. I don't think they had enough time to let the excess oil drain.

Better than Clive burger and Five guys IMO.

Where do you get great eggs in Calgary??

Green Eggs and Ham in the Kingsland FM is awesome for eggs. They have duck and chicken.

Help with Han's Replacement-YYC

We discovered a relatively new place called Great Taste 123 SE 2nd Avenue (used to be MBA Noodle House) that is more northern Chinese and has quite a few spicy dishes. The food has been excellent and there are many different items compared to many other cantonese style places.

I wasn't a regular at Han's so I can't really compare them though.

La Boulangerie - New Bakery (YYC)

Had a friend try it out and he says unfortunately it was very disappointing. I don't have first hand experience yet though.

Bison Short Ribs YYC

Sunterra had them last year but they only get them in once or twice a week. Otherwise you should be able to get it from the Bison shop in the Calgary Farmers Market but that's only open Thur-Sun.

7 Seas Seafood and Grill - yyc

The fish and chips is surprisingly good too!

Best Burger in Calgary?

That's not true, I've had medium rare burgers in restaurants but they grind their own meat fresh which is why I think it is acceptable.

YYC FOODIE SCOOP - Pig and Duke, Best New Restaurant in Calgary! Don't miss this one.

We went back again last night and had frog legs and duck wings along with the chicken wings and the duck wings (they were actually duck legs) were absolutely amazing, they were not deep fried but braised and fall off the bone tender. I'm hesitant to post this as I'll be back for them and if they are all sold out from demand I will be very sad.

How can chicharones, ribeye crackle, frog legs, duck legs and prawn tacos not be foodie? I'd admit its definitely not the place to go for light food although their coleslaw was very good too.

YYC FOODIE SCOOP - Pig and Duke, Best New Restaurant in Calgary! Don't miss this one.

Checked out this place last night and ordered a bunch of different things off the menu (about 7 items). We were not disappointed with any of them, especially the daily special which was $2 prawn tacos! We tried the pig fat popcorn, ribeye crackle, chicharrones, pig knuckles, nachos with beef (big pieces of steak not crappy ground beef), onion rings and prawn tacos. The nachos stated it was for two to share but beware of this, they must mean two very, very hungry people as it was quite large and very tasty.

The value, quality and quantity were all spot on and it's refreshing to be in a bar that's not dimly lit. Service was decent except the waitress didn't know the daily specials.

There are so many interesting things on the menu I want to try next time. I saw others having the burgers and mashed potatoes, looked awesome as well.

Quality meat direct from farmers - where to get in/around Calgary?

Ravenwood farm for pork. They have incredible Berkshire heritage pork and partner up with other like minded farmers. Located in Caroline and they come down here in the summer to the markets in Calgary but also deliver to Calgary on certain days.

I go up to Caroline fishing every couple months and load up on the meat from their butcher shop.

Congee in Calgary

Tai Pan has awesome Dim Sum and the congee is quite good as well.

Rivella, whey-based soft drink

The only place I can think of that may carry it is http://www.edelweissimports.com/

Gaucho Brunch (YYC)

I've been many times for lunch during the weekday and they usually do have some form of ribs, whether lamb or beef or both, it's easily one of my favourites. Have not managed to get out there for the weekend brunch yet.

Their lunch is a awesome deal but the only problem is if you have to go back to work it sucks as it's food coma time.

Seafood Buffet YYC

Has anyone been to either seafood buffets in Stampede Casino or the Deerfoot Inn Casino? Have trawled the boards and internet but couldn't find any specific mention of the seafood buffet.

Gluten Free Dining - Calgary

Surprisingly Cheesecake Cafe has a separate gluten free dining menu that you have to ask for. Not sure how long they've had it around but it surprised us last time when they offered it.

Where to buy: LOBSTER (Calgary)

I buy live shellfish seafood all the time from T&T, they have a very high turnover so generally you don't have to wonder how long that has been sitting in the store.

Chef Shack - YYC

Just saw a sign on the corner of 11th St and Heritage SE near the Costco at the old gas station advertising Chef Shack BBQ and Pizza. Seems like a little odd combination but it's a pretty prime location.

Anyone in the loop that know any more info? Would be awesome to have another place near work to eat :)

Boxwood (Calgary)

"if you like fat"

YES

Any "Montreal-style" Pizza in Calgary?

Drink enough water from around the world, and you can really taste the differences. I've never been to Montreal but I've been told it is quite different from Calgary. Even the water from Victoria tastes quite different from Calgary and it's much closer.

Boxwood (Calgary)

That's a shame you didn't get the porchetta, I have to say that it would have been in my top three sandwiches I've ever had in my life. Only been once to Boxwood so far so can't comment on the other offerings. I had good service when I went on the Sunday lunch but I had the porchetta to go so didn't experience the servers.

Any "Montreal-style" Pizza in Calgary?

Two big problems with ever finding that style of pizza here.

1. Almost all cheese on pizzas here come from Alberta and it'll be risky for a business to import special cheese from Montreal due to the costs.
2. Our water is completely different from Montreal, thus bread/crusts will be different. There have been blind taste tests done that prove how important water is to bread making.

Mascarpone cheese!?

We buy it all the time at Superstore. Every single Superstore I've been to has it in the deli section where the fetas are.

YYC Holy Smoke Bbq

For me I love the cornbread, it's a little sweet but mixed with the hot sauces it's perfect for mopping up the juices. Ribs can be a little inconsistent but the last few times I've been there (usually once a week), it's been getting much better.

My favourite is the Manwich when I'm really hungry, otherwise it's the pulled pork.

Peanut Butter - Calgary

All the Walmart Supercenters carry them now. It's in the health isle, not with the other peanut butters. It's awesome but there's only three flavours right now.

Authentic Greek Yogurt

Superstore has been carrying Greek Gods and I've been getting more addicted to it than Liberte. They don't have the same amount of flavours yet but the honey is amazing. I'd say it's on par with Fage.

Mary Brown's Chicken on Blackfoot YYC

I've given all of the Mary's Browns' locations over half a dozen chances in total and unfortunately they have never delivered the goods. I kept thinking, it must be a one off, it really can't be this bad and stay in business but I have not once even been satisfied, let alone wow'ed. I dunno if it's cause I've been spoiled by Popeye's and Church's chicken but I will never ever set foot in a MB again. It truly boggles my mind how they can stay in business and how low some people's taste buds can truly be.

To me the problems were not only the size portions but the repeated soggy chicken, hard fries and overall blandness. Not once have I ever enjoyed the chicken OR fries.

favorite at 5 guys?

Been there a dozen or so times and tried quite a few different toppings. So far the best for me has been little bacon burger (no cheese), mayo, lettuce, tomato, raw onion and green peppers.

Sushi Kitchen info? (Quarry Park Calgary)

Second Ichizen, very pleasantly surprised at the quality for being in the burbs.

5 Guys Burgers in Calgary?

I'm still amazing how packed that place is. I thought that for sure the fad would have died out by now and it would be "normal" busy. And to be honest, I was really doubting why they picked that odd location.

However, I just can't get enough of their fries, they are so tasty absolutely plain with no spices or ketchup.

Fatburger must be cringing whenever they look at the crazy lineups at 5 Guys. I just hope that one day In-Out will look at the success of 5 Guys and come up here, but I definitely won't hold my breath.
