Pregnant in Paris
I am headed to Paris for a little vacation and am 4 months pregnant! I don't speak French, and I am wondering if any of the local Chowhounders would help me with a few phrases - whatever is necessary to get by. I am looking things up online, using a translation website -but those tend to butcher things.
For example, I know I need to stay away from cheese made from unpasteurized milk. How do I politely inquire about that? Or do you think this will be a complete waste of time and I should just avoid soft cheese all together?
How can I politely tell my waiter that I'm pregnant, and alert them that I can't eat raw seafood or meat?
Thanks!

I would also be extremely grateful if you would share your documents, Trail 6 and Luus. My husband & I will be in Paris for nearly a week in early November and I'm overwhelmed with the choices!
2 nights in amboise for honeymoon
Still anxiously awaiting more details from you Dapuma!
Seeking a great Happy Hour on a Tuesday (Biltmore/ Old Town Scottsdale)
I'm looking for a fun place for a group of ladies to get together for Happy Hour on a Tuesday night. There will be approx 8 or 9 of us, and we're hoping for somewhere convenient to the Biltmore or Old Town Scottsdale Area (but I think we'd be open to a place downtown too).
Love any and all recommendations!
2 nights in amboise for honeymoon
Dapuma, I am anxious to hear back about your trip - as my husband & I will be staying in Amboise for 4 nights in late October!

Kitchen 56 on Indian School? Formerly Vatra
Has anyone been to Kitchen 56 (formerly Vatra) on Indian School?
I keep driving by (and wondering why they painted it that weird green color, when the old off-white was so much prettier)....
Curious to hear how the food is, as we live just down the street.
Also read that they'll be open for lunch, starting April 26th here: http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bella/2011/04/kitchen_56_open_for_lunch_begi.php

Let me know if it's worth stopping in!
Bachelorette Party: Dinner and Brunch
Thank you all! I'm going to look into these options now.
I do hear that Hakkasan is great, I just wanted to leave the hotel for one evening - so the bride to e doesn't get cabin fever!
We may have use of the "house" car for the evening, so I don't want to factor in the cost of the taxi ride to the restaurant (if that opens up an options?)....

Bachelorette Party: Dinner and Brunch
I'm planning a bachelorette for a group of girls (between 6-10) in June, and looking for somewhere fun and lively to do dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. We're staying at the Fontainebleau, but would like to go off property for at least one great meal.
Love your suggestions on places that will
a) give us a little bit of that Miami flavor
b) accommodate a group
c) not break the bank. Ideally like to keep this under $50/person
d) aren't TOO far from the hotel, as we'll be cabbing it
Also love any ideas for a beautiful place to have breakfast/brunch on a Sunday morning!
thanks!!
Suggestions for great Sushi that is moderately priced / affordable?
My husband & I moved to Phoenix from LA about 2 years ago, and haven't had much luck finding a good, "regular" sushi place to frequent. We live in the Arcadia area.
We go to Sushi Roku on special occasions, but it's really expensive and a total scene. We've also been to Hana, off 7th Ave and Missouri and it was ok, but didn't stand out.
Would love some suggestions on other sushi restaurants that are more casual dining options - somewhere you'd go for a quick Wednesday night dinner. I don't need it to be super cheap - but definitely not looking for a place with Roku or Roka Akor prices.
Thanks!

3 Days/Nights in Athens
Thank you all! We are staying at O&B hotel, in downtown Athens (a few minutes walking distance from Thisio Metro Station). I can't wait to go, and will report back on any amazing meals. If you think of anything else - please do shoot suggestions my way! thanks!
3 Days/Nights in Athens
In late May, my husband and I are spending 3 days in Athens (before we embark on a cruise). We'll most likely stay at the O&B hotel. We love to explore a city through food, and are excited to hear any recommendations for great meals (we're not afraid to try "hole in the wall" type places, and also would be open to nicer suggestions as well).
Feel free to include any "must-visit" spots, we love to walk and explore.
Thanks!
Suggestions for Late Night Sweet Tooth in Scottsdale?
My husband and I are looking for some easy (but yummy) local options to satisfy our need for sweets after dinner. When we lived in LA, there were dozens of casual places within walking distance where we could pop in to pick up a cupcake, cookies, gelato, a piece of pie (you name it)...
We're off Indian School and Hayden, and can't seem to find anywhere open past 7PM that would sell these types of items (aside from Basha's and IMHO their bakery sucks). Anybody have ideas? We're happy to hop in the car and drive a bit, but we don't want a trek.
And yes, I know - I should clearly anticipate these things and just buy pastries in the day!
Thanks!
California Coast Road Trip - Any Suggestions?
We've got a few days off from work and decided to drive up the California coast. We're starting in Santa Barbara, and heading to Monterey for a night. Then up to Half Moon Bay for 2 nights and back down to Santa Barbara at our leisure.
Would love any chowhounder suggestions for the following:
- great stops between Santa Barbara and Monterey
- dinner and breakfast in Monterey area
- all meals in Half Moon Bay
We're open to some nicer ($$$) meals, and also open to casual, inexpensive options.
Thanks!
Wine Dinners in Scottsdale/Phoenix
I have had amazing BYOB dinners at Atlas Bistro (http://www.atlasbistro.com/) and Coup Des Tartes (http://www.nicetartes.com/). Coup Des Tartes has a little more ambiance, but I think both are fantastic options.

Great Restaurant for dinner in Manhattan Beach or Palos Verdes?
I'm headed to Palos Verdes with a group of co-workers for a conference in early December and have been asked to find a "great" restaurant for dinner one night (either in PV or Manhattan Beach). I'm really familiar with all of the amazing places in central LA, culver city etc...but I'm at a loss for options further south. Would love some input on places with great food AND good ambiance (ie: no dives for this bunch - they want to go to a more hip type place). I'm open to any type of cuisine.
Thanks!
Hungry Food Snob at USC
As a fellow Trojan, I feel your pain! Here is a list of the places I loved when I was attending USC...but it's been 7 years.
Ciudad: this place has GREAT happy hour and it's right up Figueroa. I love the sangria, and their appetizers are perfection. Perfect date spot.
Ciudad
445 S. Figueroa Street, Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90071
Master Burger: this place is in a sketchy neighborhood, but it's totally amazing for burgers and fries. They are HUGE and well seasoned and just delicious in that "i feel sick" kind of way afterward.
Master Burger
4419 S Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA
La Taquiza - good burritos (especially breakfast burritos after a hangover) and salsa.
La Taquiza
3009 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90007
Dong Il Jang - amazing Korean BBQ. This is really fun with a group of people, you can cook around the table, and at the end, make sure you get the Kimchi fried rice.
Dong Il Jang

La Barca - Mexican food, really close to campus

Frying Fish - Decent and inexpensive sushi, not far from campus.

Seeking life changing Chinese food like House of Nanking (PHX)
Thanks everyone for the replies! I'm surprised to read that a lot of people don't share my rave reviews of HNK! Maybe I went on a great night? Or maybe I was just starving after the USC vs. Berkley game? I felt like it blew all of the Chinese food I've had previously out of the water (especially PF Changs. haha!) and I've had my fair share of Chinese food, after living in LA for 10 years and going to Chinatown quite frequently.
Anyway - we had a few things at HNK, and each of them was standout (wonton soup with an amazingly flavorful broth, crispy beef, chicken chowmein etc..) but the winner was the Nanking sesame chicken with sweet potatoes. To die for! ...just something about the unique blend of spices and seasonings they used.
I have been to Golden Buddha and wasn't impressed. Definitely going to try some of the other suggestions on this board. Thanks!

Seeking life changing Chinese food like House of Nanking (PHX)
Hubby and I just returned from a weekend in San Fran, where a friend took us to House of Nanking. It was the best Chinese food we have ever had, period. Wondering if any AZ chowhound readers have been, and experience anything similar in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area?
Thanks!
Healthy Eats in Scottsdale & Phoenix
Thanks Ginael, I will definitely check out Haji Baba and House of Tricks. I am also absolutely looking for suggestions outside of the Scottsdale area. Keep em coming!
Healthy Eats in Scottsdale & Phoenix
I recently moved to Scottsdale from LA, and have been having a blast discovering the city through food. Unfortunately, I have zero willpower when it comes to ordering and need to start cutting back on the calories. I'm looking for some recommendations for delicious but healthy restaurants in town.
I've been to True Foods in the Biltmore area, and I think it's pretty good!
I also like Pita Jungle for a quick bite to eat.
Thanks!
30th Birthday Group Dinner - Korean Food
I'm getting a group together for my boyfriend's 30th birthday (approx 15 people) and would love to go to dinner at a Korean restaurant. We're big fans of Dong Il Jang when it's just the two of us, but have never been in a group. Have also heard good things about ChoSan Galbee, but never been.
Would love recommendations on where you think is the best for a party our size. Does anyone accommodate groups that large, seated on the floor?
Thanks!
Coup des Tartes - Any updates?
My fiance took me for my birthday dinner, in early November and we had an amazing experience. The food was extremely good, and I loved the ambiance. I had the filet, and he had the lamb shank. We tried two different tartes for dessert (the chocolate/caramel was delish). We brought our own wine. I think this is a great option for NYE.
