Please help with a bridal shower salad buffet menu & cooking theme

I was at a shower yesterday someone brought a corn salad. It was terrific. It was from Thomas keller's Ad hoc cookbook but you can get it online. It was fresh corn ,lime juice ,chives ,lime zest, cream. It was the first thing to go. It was served with the scoops chips next to it . People put the salad in the chips. Very yummy

Buffalo Wing Tour 2011 (westchester/putnam)

Just want to say how much I'm enjoying this thread. I love chicken wings, maybe not to the extent you do, but have been to several places that you have been and will probably go to some of the places I haven't been. and you're doing it graciously , Thanks

Karma Lounge/Ossining

I'm sorry but I so strongly disagree. I want to keep this place in business. I hope others give it a try and make up your own minds.

Karma Lounge/Ossining

Hi. I'm the original poster from way back. I have been there several times with different groups of friends and family. We all love it there. We think the food is special, different and so flavorful. I love the martini list also. The service may not be stellar but it's good. I wish more people would go there to keep it open. I'nm not sure what the previous poster meant as far as clientele. I've told numerous people about this place. I would urge elb53103 to try it again because you would be losing out on a good dining experience.

Bad Karma

I had a totally different experience there. I loved the food, the service and especially the pineapple bread pudding. You can send me the 25 coupon. I've been sending friends there and they all have had good experiences. Sorry you had a bad experience but i had good Karma.

Karma Lounge/Ossining

Haven't seen any info on this restaurant here. I went there Thurs night to celebrate 2 birthdays. I thought it was outstanding. Very nice martini,The Hollywood tini, and I thought the small plates, it's tapas ,was unique and fresh. We had 7 dishes and 2 desserts The mussels with chorizo, shrimp casserole with fava beans, coconut shrimp, chicken wings in a soy teriyaki glaze, salmon forgot with what, and flank steak with great fries. Every diah was served with a little something else on the plate. The flavors and freshness were terrific. We ate every last morsel. For dessert we had pineaple bread pudding, with a caramel drizzle, again excellent and a chocolate something. I just thought I would post it here as I haven't heard much about it. Plus there are coupons on restaurant.com and coupon cabin for it. There prices were reasonable. It's something new in the area and something different.

Local places when in a rush - [Lower Westchester County]

When I want decent food, not fast food, but fast for me and my kids I go to Panera. It's easy , the service is good and I like the food.

RestaurantweekDisappointmentHotelThayer/What restaurantshave u triedand what do you think

I went with 2 friends for lunch today to the Hotel Thayer. I always wanted to go for the view. We saw the restaurant week menu on line and didn't like it all that much but wanted to go because we've never been.
Besides the retaurant week menu they had a buffet, which was about 2 dollars cheaper and we went for that. That was mediocre at best. If there restaurant week menu was better, they had for appetizers shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon etc. I think restaurant week should be a time they show up their food. I thought they had changed from what I remember people saying about it years ago. Very disappointing, blah food. I'm going to Restaurant 42 on Sunday night I hope that is good.
What have people been feeling about the restaurants they have been to. Although i think this is the beginning. Just curious

Have new meat grinder, what kind of meat should I buy to nake it chopped meat?

I got the grinder from a friend and I thought I would ask this board what meat to grind in it. I figured it would be probably beef chuck and sirloin. Old timer you are a bit nasty in your response. You've never gotten anything because you were curious and wanted to use it?

What's good in Mahopac?

Had dinner twice lately at Arianos on Clark Place in Mahopac. Thought it was very good and well priced. The owner is a bit of a character but very nice. Their pizzas are very good as was their shrimp parm and meatballs and spaghetti. Nice stmosphere. Good neighborhood italian

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 2009

For restaurant week I went to Hudson House in Cold Spring and Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry. I thought both gave an excellent value for the money, good food , good service and both places were very welcoming. At Half Moon most of the selections in each caterogory were numerous and most off their regular menu. Hudson House had great popovers. I think maybe for restaurant week if you stay a little below the top restaurants you're better off. I would go back to both , and plan to . Half Moon was a pretty , contemporary restaurant and Hudson HOuse was more old fashioned. All my fellow diners at both places really liked them.

Best non-overpriced restaurants in Westchester

We like Pastina on Central Avenue. They have a price fixed dinner I think from Sunday to Thursday. We went on a Sunday evening with our 3 kids. It was nice pasta dishes and chicken dishes, included a salad and i thnk coffee for about 14.95. You can't beat it. The service was nice and the food was good. Alot of bang for your buck.
