Cafe Barcel in Nyack...anyone been yet?

Without having a menu in front of me, I know from being there several times there are several other non-fish entrees.

For example, they have really great roast chicken, and meatballs with mozzarella fondue, with or without linguini. Delicious. I loved the burger with the fries.

The food here is really excellent. I havent had a bad meal yet. Very pleased. Service top notch too. The waiters really know what they are doing and the bartenders are very knowledgable. The owner is super nice.

Sure, this sounds like a shill post, but if you read my previous reviews, Im usually quite critical. This place makes me very happy.

Smoking Bull Bar in Cottage Valley

is "Cottage Valley" the dyslexic's "Valley Cottage" in Rockland County?

Ivy Buffet West Nyack

You'll be Famous!!! Go for it Michele

Ivy Buffet West Nyack

I would feel more confident in trying this restaurant if ONE of the positive reviewers of this place had more than ONE review on Chowhound. Im surprised the posts stay. An IP Address check might show they come from the same place.

Ivy Buffet West Nyack

Thanks for an HONEST review and taking one for the team.

Stew Leonard's vs. Fairway

Most of what you love isnt exactly healthy real food.

I'll go to Fairway for my produce, meats, seafood, poultry, groceries, grains, nuts, breads and baked goods...

Stew Leonard's vs. Fairway

The thing about SL is:

The first time you go there, it IS fun and exciting and gets your pulse racing a bit if you are into this sort of thing...

The second time you go there, the thrill starts to fade. Sure, you find some cool things, but then you start to realize this place is expensive.

After a few times, you think: Do I REALLY want to go there and overpay and deal with the maze, or can I do better by going elsewhere...?

When Fairway became a convenient option for me, Stew's dropped out of the picture.

We need WEGMAN'S!!! (And how does it compare to Fairway?)

"We need a Wegman's" seems to be irrelevant if Wegmans doesnt have distribution channels in place in the NY Metro Area... Fairway started with a local store in manhattan, expanded to a much larger store in Harlem and worked on the model for about 5-10 years before expanding further into Long Island, Brooklyn, Jersey, and has bigger expansion plans on the horizon.

As much as I loved Wegmans when I went there in Ithaca, it may not have such plans on the table, and if they do, it would have to include warehousing, trucking, and partnerships that would take years to develop. You cant just plop a massive store like that with fresh products in the middle of a new market.

Stew Leonard's vs. Fairway

In my opinion, there is NO comparison.

Fairway beats Stew Leonards on every front (unless you like their hot fried foods and ribs).
*Less expensive
*Better and much more variety of selections
*Better Quality produce, meats and seafood (Fairway started on the UWS as a produce store)
*Better quality prepared foods
*Did I say LESS EXPENSIVE? (there is NO comparison)

If you are going for a kids payground, stew leonards can be fun. If you are going to buy food, Fairway is a hundred times better

Looking for a Good Rodizio in North Jersey

Yay. Im glad you enjoyed my suggestion!!!

Looking for a Good Rodizio in North Jersey

Have you tried The Stable in Ridgewood. Its BYOB. I was there once and enjoyed the food. I'd go back

40th Birthday Gift...... Congers and vicinity

I too would go with Restaurant X for my first choice. Another option in Congers is "Grande Centrale" restaurant.

Old world Food Market - Nyack - Any Opinions?

I've been here several times. Unfortunately, Im not impressed although I had hopeful expectations. I'm willing to elaborate, but Im curious what other people's impressions are.

Buffalo Zach's Cafe in Roscoe?

I stopped for coffee here on my way back downstate. It is off Rt 17, Exit 94 - same exit as the Roscoe Diner, which has been a consistent stop for me for the past 30 years.

This place enthralled me. I loved the decor and the fresh roasted coffee was delicious. I took a menu but didn't have a chance to eat here. Can anyone tell me about the food? It looks like a place I'll stop at again in the future. I just loved the ambiance of the place...... Outdoor porch seating, a living room area where I had my coffee, and several dining areas and nooks.....

How is the food?

Need Rockland County recommendations

Rick's Club American in Congers, NY

I've been to Rick's numerous times over the past 10 or so years since I live close by.

It's inconsistent. That's probably the best way to describe it.

The last time I was there, I had the Chicken Pot Pie and had to return it because it was sour. The previous visit, I had the Squash Entree and it was out of this world...

I think it's become a little more dumpy over the years..

Southern Fried Chicken on Long Island

Zorns has great Fried Chicken. Maybe not Southern, but its been around for 75 years and is still my fave. Bethpage, East Meadow and Bellmore. I grew up in Wantagh and I used to go to the original location 45 years ago as a little kid and loved to see the little poultry farm in the back...

Heaven for me was their Fried chicken with their gravy on top, fries, and their home made coleslaw... For Thanksgiving, I loved their stuffing! mmmm zornschicken.com

sunday brunch at restaurant x & bully boy bar

Jon1856: "frequentdinner-It is rather interesting that you posted this..."

Btw, It's Frequent "Diner" not Frequent "Dinner". I only eat dinner generally once per day like the rest of you.

sunday brunch at restaurant x & bully boy bar

It's too bad you had a bad experience........ Maybe you should give it another shot?

Too many people love it... but it is a day long experience. It started at 1 and ended at 4. I didn't eat any other meals on the days I went there.......

There are two Peter Kelly restaurants in Piermont: Xaviars, and Freelance Cafe. Xaviars is quite formal. Freelance is more laid back, but very tiny and no reservations, so I tend not to go there unless it is an off-time.

SOUTHERN ROCKLAND COUNTY

Ive always been happy with Peter Kelly's restaurant's also. At Restaurant X, the Cote de Boeuf (on request) is amazing! So is the seared wasabi crusted tuna and the Salmon Tempura Roll. There arent many restaurants in Rockland County with very good to excellent high quality food. Peter's restaurants consistently fit this bill. The service can be spotty but I believe that's a result of a small available pool of people in Rockland that are able to serve well in a fine dining restaurant.

Need good, crusty BEEF RIBS in North Jersey and/or Hudson Valley

go through the lincoln tunnel into manhattan and on the west side at 46th and 11th you can get great beef ribs at Daisy May's BBQ - then go back into the tunnel and back north on the turnpike then back to the Garden State Parkway to the Thruway. Its a slight detour but you can get great beef ribs there.

sunday brunch at restaurant x & bully boy bar

It has been one of my greatest sunday brunch experiences. Normally, when one goes for a buffet brunch it is uncivilized, quick, and expensive, not to mention borderline unsanitary.....

Coming here for brunch is civilized, relaxing, slow paced, delicious, reasonably priced filling, and fun experience. I won't recount the process here, but the unlimited champagne (prosecco) makes it an incredible steal.

I love it and recommend the experience it without qualification.

BLT Beware

it was reported several months in the Journal news that Laurent Tourendel has left BLT in White Plains and the hotel has taken over the operation. this is a BLT operation in name only.

Stew Leonards...an ongoing debate

Shark_attack: "the problems I experience there are ongoing, and the participation of others is crucial to attempt to cross-reference experiences. Hopefully a comprehensive understanding of the problems combined with lots of public participation will lead to solutions."

Since when is it the customer's role to create "solutions"? This is their role as store owners. There are many places Ive been that ive been dissatisfied with but they dont change because I want them to. I go somewhere else. If you're not happy with your shopping experience, and you feel your concerns go unrecognized (although everyone here has said their customer service is great) then shop elsewhere...

What's there to debate?

Stew Leonards...an ongoing debate

harrie says: " dunno, if I was as upset as shark_attack sounds, I'd probably just stop going there and hit Stew's in the cash register, where it hurts. "

HaHa Irony!! Isn't Stew Leonards where the owner went to jail for tax evasion because one of the cash registers wasnt linked to the central computer systems and the totals weren't recorded?

White Plains area Pub - Good Food and Live Music Weekends?

Looking for a Pub to hang out in on a Weekend evening with friends (couples). We are a little older, and like good food. Something more upscale than a dive would be preferred, but not in the mood for a $100 dinner. Something reasonably priced and casual is ok

We are in the mood for something different. We're looking for something with Live music but a little more lively that a classical string trio.

Mid Westchester preferred (Tarrytown, Irvington, Hastings, White Plains, etc.....)

Any suggestions?

Sweetgrass Grill in Tarrytown sort of open!!!

As a followup to my earlier posts, I went over and looked at the Tomatillo website.

Judging from the photos and the menu and graphics, it seems to be a reasonable conclusion that they were Not looking for a "hip adult customer base", and they probably aren't looking for that at Sweetgrass Grill either. (but who knows? besides them)

It seems the owners are demonstating they are kid friendly, and probably quite happy to have the restaurant filled on a Saturday night with children and parents.....

Maybe I'll stop in much later than 7:30 on a Saturday night some time and try the food.

Sweetgrass Grill in Tarrytown sort of open!!!

wd,

I dont believe I used the words: "super hip nightclub type place"
I said "hip adult customer base" and "new cool hangout" I don't want a nightclub scene either.

As for dining with toddlers, I have absolutely no objection to you, or anyone else, dining with toddlers on a Saturday night, and I have no objection to restaurants that want a very child friendly environment. I have two grown children of my own and I recognize a desire for nice places that I could have brought my kids to when they were younger.....

With that said, if I am going out on a Saturday night without children, and would like an adult - non child vibe. I am going to seek out restaurants that meet that specification. Just as you are entitled to go where you want with your toddler, I am entitled to seek restaurants you might be less likely to take your child to for dinner.

Sweetgrass didn't do it for me and my original thought is still crossing my mind... What did the owners have in mind as their desired demographic?
