Veal brats

I apologize for cluttering up the board but I am attempting to reply to responses from Hue and John Parker. When I hit the reply tab all I get is a copy of my profile and do not get a space to type anything.

I did go by Binkerts and get some great brats.

I also was advised that Geiers in Sarasota, FL was good also. We are going to be in the Sarasota area in 3 weeks and intend to go there and try some of theirs.

Thanks to all.

Veal brats

Thanks Hue. No luck at Graul's. Binkert's will not add all that many miles to our overall trip. Only about 45 additional. Think it will be worth it. Love veal 'brats' (although I guess they are actually weisswurst. Just do not find them that frequently, especially down here in Bubba Land. No disrespect. Love it down here.

Thanks again for all your help.

Veal brats

Thanks Jason and Hue. I have located them, spoken with them and they seem to have just what I am looking for. I will be in Easton, MD and heading back to FL on Sat AM and going by Binkert's before heading south. Thank you very, very much.

Veal brats

I am on a quest to locate some all veal brats. I have found a couple of places to order them on-line. But the minimum order requirements and shipping costs to me here in FL just seem a bit prohibitive.

I am going to have to drive to the Washington/Baltimore area later this week. There surely must be a famous deli in one of these larger cities where I can buy veal brats.

Anyone have any experience doing this or suggest some great delis that I might contact before I get there to see if they have them?

Thanks for any help.

Best tenderloin, south side of Indinapolis

Thanks to all who have responded. We may try to make Shelbyville. If all flights are on schedule we may be able to do it. If there are any hitches then it might make for a fairly late lunch. Bottom line though is that I want to thank all who took the time to contribute.

Regards

Best tenderloin, south side of Indinapolis

Thanks. My error in posting. Should have specified pork sandwich. A stupid assumption on my part that everyone would know what I meant. Sorry.

Best tenderloin, south side of Indinapolis

Arriving at Indy airport around noon. Heading SE to Cincinnati. Looking for the best tenderloin on the south side. By the time we get our bags and a car would prefer not to have to drive too far toward Cincinnati before we have lunch.

Recommendations appreciated. Thanks

NM State question, red or green, help please [Moved from Southwest board]

Going to be Southwest in Sept. Have been trying to educate myself a bit on SW food. Seen many comments referring to to red v. green. Are they much the same, just made with either? Is there a much more fundamental difference than just which pepper forms the base? Which is hotter by nature?

Have seen posts from ex-NM residents or recent visitors who need a "green chilie fix" but don't recall seeing the same passion for red. Verrrry interesting, and perplexing since I lack an understanding of the issue.

What could be said to be the basic difference between New Mexico v. Mexican dishes?

I know I've broached a lot of subjects but any responses appreciated. Thanks.

Terre Haute IN chow recs appreciated

Just returned from Terre Haute area after a long weekend family reunion. Native of Brazil, 15 miles east. Did not have time to get to our secondary fallbacks. Have 3 favs we always get to when we get "Back Home Again". I'll probably get some disagreement from other locals as these are not exactly upscale gourmet dining but we are lovers of good food simply and tastefully prepared. Our 3 usual musts are:

Saratoga Bar: Best pork tenderloin sandwiches in town in our opinion. Other dishes good too and fit the stated parameters.

Carosi's Italian: Close second in the category is Zamberletti's. We did not make it there this trip. Understand it may have changed hands but not sure. Pino's Il Sonetto is a usual stop for a bit more upscale.

Gerhardt's German is across the street from Carosi's. Good simple stuff.

As you might tell we tend to the ethnic locations as we feel you can get good 'American' fare anywhere in any decent size town and we have plenty of that where we live locally.

Tenderloin sandwiches in Indy airport area

I posted a message a couple of weeks ago looking for tenderloin recommendations in the Indy airport area. Thanks for responses. We just completed the trip. Bottom line is I was made aware of and decided to try Green Street in Brownsburg. The location is very convenient just off I-74 at exit 66. The food and service were both excellent. I got grilled and my wife got breaded and we halved. Would recommend to anyone. We obviously had tenderloins so cannot comment on other menu items but from what we saw being served around us it looked good. Thanks again for all input.

Best Tenderloins Indy Airport/Plainfield Area

Will be arriving in Indy in a couple of weeks close to lunchtime and heading west toward Terre Haute. Don't want to drive too long before lunch. A native Hoosier who really misses the tenderloins so was hoping to get opinions on the best in the airport/Plainfield area. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Iowa tenderloins

Thanks for input. We will be in LeMars but not sure of mealtime scheduling. If we are there with any window of opportunity to chow down we will give it a try and advise.

Love chili dogs. Lived in Atlanta for several years and had the Varsity experience many times. Varsity accepted as being the 'Mother Church' of chili dogs, at least in the South. When we are in LeMars will have to have a dog regardless of time of day.

Thanks again.

Iowa tenderloins

Thanks for your response. Will be close to Dunlap but not sure of the timing. If it is around lunchtime will give Dairy Sweet a try. Also visited your website. Have visited the Gnaw Bone, IN place. We were just in IN in July. Had some pretty good tenderloins. Ones I remember were Sloan's in Peru and Saratoga in Terre Haute. I usually get grilled because of the 'pound out' factor but both of these bread the same cut they grill.

Iowa tenderloins

Now living in FL but am originally from IN. A big tenderloin fan.

Going to be in Western Iowa next week. Will be in Council Bluffs, Elk Horn, Manning, Onawa, Sioux City, LeMars and Orange City. Will also be over into NE but am aware of the three-I prominence of tenderloins.

Looking for the best tenderloin recs. Like both grilled and breaded but not the breaded if they are pounded out so thin as to be all breading. If someplace breads the same piece they grill then that's fine. Again, will also be in NE so any recs there also appreciated.

We are not squeamish about going to some perhaps less than deluxe bars as I know that in many small towns that is where some of the best are found.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

amelia island recommendations?

No experience with PLAE or Embers but have heard good things.
Beech Street, one of my favorites. Pick up the local newspaper, comes on Wed. and Fri., usually has a two for one entree coupon which makes Beech St. a very good value I think.

Bretts Waterway, good

Le Clos, very good but a bit pricey in MHO.

Lots of other good places also. In an upscale vein like the above places you named there are Joe's 2nd Street Bistro, The Florida House, Carolyn's etc.

For a bit plainer, less upscale, Barbara Jean's and the Marina are quite functional and do lunches as well.

For lunch must go to T-Ray's Burger Station. An Amoco station across the street from Beech St. Best burger in town and good daily specials.

Sort of hard to go too far wrong. Enjoy your stay.

Midwest trip

We are newbies so I hope I am not violating any protocols with my first post. We are going to be in NE, SD, ND in the next few weeks in the following cities:
Omaha, NE--Vermillion, SD--Watertown, SD--Bismarck, ND--Miles City, MT--Sheridan, WY--Deadwood, SD--Pierre, SD--Scottsbluff, Ne--North Platte, NE--Lincoln, NE--Carter Lake, IA.

We are not really gourmands but like diner and home cooking types of foods aswell as any local specialties. I read about a soup in Bismarck that is apparently VERY local ND.

Also like ethnic foods, ie. Italian, German, Polish, etc.

Again, realize this requests a lot of responses in just one message and if this is inappropriate I apologize.

Your input appreciated.
