Do you "cook once a week, eat everyday"? Share your tip!

I am half of a newly married couple. We have "couple friends" who are also relatively newly married. We found "Cook Once a week, eat well all week" (or something like it) at our library. Last week we made one of the suggested menus. This week, I am creating a menu for us from things that we know we already like. We ended up cooking four hours together (my friend's husband and myself= chefs in our families) and we ate our first meal together. It was really fun!
The rest of the week has worked out really well with the exception of a meal or two that we'll edit out next week.
I suggest the book for a good outline and idea of menu and preparation lineup-- it's trickier than you think to prep a week of meals.

Ranking Twin City Caterers for an October wedding?

We had a tasting with them. It was pretty good... though, it was amazingly greasy. Too greasy, I think. Lemon Chicken too, I thought that would be on the light side... house salad was good, and the garlic vegetables were delicious.

Awesome! Congratulations! We have a tasting with them on Wednesday of this week, so we'll see for ourselves. What was your favorite food that you had them cater?

Thanks for the response.
Though, I think you're right, 10 years does seem a little long.
Any other more recent opinions?

Okay Chowhounds,

My financee and I have narrowed down our catering choices to four, and I am curious to hear if any of you have any experience (positive or negative) with them:

Lake Elmo Inn
Mintahoe Catering
Kraemer's Catering
Twin City Catering

We are trying desperately to have as "green" a wedding as possible. I've even considered using Goodwill plates and place settings, washing them, and re-donating them (but likely won't have to as china seems ot be included with most of these caterers).

I'm curious to hear what you all think. Thanks so much!!

[MSP] Ranking Caterers?

From what I understand, price-wise, Divine Swine is less expensive. We are currently working with Twin City Catering to create a menu for our wedding, and I have been surprised with how long is taking them to get back to us with a price quote and specific service ideas. They were quick to send an email with their "pat" responses and welcomes, but so far we have not received personalized attention-- emailed them on Tuesday of this past week. If we were doing a picnic for our wedding, I'd use Divine Swine-- it looks like a fun time!

one of our friends used Three Sons for their wedding reception and I thought that they were very mediocre. Their hors 'd oeuvres were cold and bland-- I've had much better spanikopeta almost everywhere. The dinner buffet was so basic, it was almost comic. Breaded chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans-- that was it. No garnishes on the buffet table, no sauces, no fruit-- very few staff that left our plates at our places much too long... I supposed it could have just been the budget/in-experience of our friends, but I would not choose them for my wedding catering.

Chow Girls got back to us in lightning speed with a specific menu and cost proposal. They do local and organic-- BUT, so does the Birchwood Cafe. We really wanted them to cater our wedding (but licensing didn't work out-- they do not do hard alcohol), Stephanie there is eclectic and imaginative. She'll have your mouth watering the first time you sit down with her.
