Liberty Bar and Grill moves to King Williams Area

I was at the original place last week--I think the new location opens in June.

been to Pelican in McAllen yet?

I think it's closed. Never went there, but their ad in the phone book was priceless. Says they serve "Calm Chowder".

need hill country recs

The Cabernet Grill was good when I was there back in October. Definitely skip the catfish place--can't remember the name--it's a real trough.

Taco Bell quality

ya know--i lived in el paso for years, and there, the taco bell didn't use cilantro. i've since moved to the rio grande valley in deep south texas and they put cilantro in EVERYTHING! my favorite is the cheesy rice and bean burrito, which never had cilantro, but here, it is in there! maybe it's a local thing. i used to love pollo loco, but here, they put that devil's herb (cilantro) into everything! LOL! www.ihatecilantro.com

Taco Bell quality

rworange--do you like cilantro? I hate it, and to me it tastes like soap, as it does to a lot of people. Taco Bell never used to put cilantro in the food, but now they do. Just a thought!

The Volcano Taco

the volcano taco is good, just add a couple of packets of fire sauce if you want it really spicy. i just figure that since taco bells are all over the country, they can't have it too spicy because in some areas the masses can't handle any heat. i live on the border where real mexican food is ubiquitous. but i still love my taco bell!

Best Grocery Rotisserie Chicken

albertsons makes a really good rotisserie caesar salad--guess they use the leftover birds.

Best Smokes Sausage In Texas.

we really like the kiolbassa brand--especially the beef and jalepeno. sadler's makes the most wonderful smoked turkey i've ever had. found that at sam's.

"New" Good Breakfast in El Paso?

like i said, i left a while ago. if you're interested in inexpensive home cooked foods, check out elmer's. it's on montana just west of the airport. cattlemen's steakhouse is east on 1-10 in fabens, and is a total experience--rattlesnake pits, horses, prairie dogs, and fabulous steaks & sunsets.

"New" Good Breakfast in El Paso?

i moved from there a couple of years ago, but one of our favorite places for breakfast (any meal, for that matter), was carnitas queretaro. there were several locations around town. the mexicana breakfast with potatoes, chorizo, beans, and fried eggs was to die for!!

All Clad round stainless grill pan or Calphalon

i have the all-clad grill pan and i really like it. unlike all my other all-clad, the grill pan has a non-stick surface. i wouldn't have chosen that, but i got the pan as a bonus when i bought the set. it works great.

2oz Black Truffles @ Costco for $40

i actually got some .88 oz. jars of black winter truffles for $10 @ tjmaxx!!! i don't think anyone around here knew what they were.

Red Robin Burgers

i'll take a chili cheeseburger!

WHATABURGER Patty Melt?

we tried it saturday. i thought it was just ok, but my husband really liked it. i thought it was a little on the dry side, i guess i should have added some condiments. then again, you can never go wrong with whataburger!!

Promise vs. experience on Hell's Kitchen [Spoilers]

i am disgusted with chef ramsay's decision. and the fact that he made the comment that he was "looking for the long-term". that smacks of ageism. i am 47 as petrozza is--i will no longer watch this show, or patronize his restaurants.

South Texas Japanese restaurant recipe

what about trying some oyster flavor sauce? if it was spicy, maybe try some chile oil. i'm in mcallen, but haven't been to that restaurant. if i go, i'll give it a taste and see what i can come up with!

Desperatly seeking edible food in Mcallen, Texas

you're probably thinking about arturo's in progreso. there are quite a few new restaurants in mcallen since the original post. palenque grill in south mcallen for one, and tons of new restaurants in north mcallen, too.

Best Places to Eat on S. Padre Island?

dirty al's had a fire a while back so that's why it's closed.

Best Texas Wine

Becker is the only one I care to drink. I haven't tried Brennan.

Hell's Kitchen

i know-how gross!! reminded me of george costanza eating the eclair out of the trash!! good riddance!!! petrozza should win--

Best seafood in Port "A" and Rockport?

hemingway's in rockport is very good, but a little on the pricey side. surprisingly high end in such a location.

Bottom Freezer Refrigerators-Pros/Cons?

i have the maytag h2O and love it. the freezer actually has drawers so it's easier to find things in it. i've had it a year--no problems so far.

Did anyone else know this? I sure didn't...

i am stunned!!! just went to check. locks on the foil, press & seal, and on the store brand parchment paper. none on the storebrand wax paper. thank you for telling us about this!! maybe it's always been this way, i surely never noticed.

Starbucks' New Truffles

we had some the other day. i didn't try them, but my husband ate one and said it wasn't that good. we threw them out.

Regional Fast-Food Chains

el pollo loco is really good--i think they're mainly in the southwest. the farthest east i've seen weinerscnitzel is in corpus christi, tx. i wish they had one further south. i miss my chili cheeseburgers.

Famous Dave's BBQ, any hounds ever been?

yuk!! i was skeptical anyway, since i'm from memphis, but decided to give it a shot. never again. i don't know how it stays in business.

las canarias in san antonio

who's tried las canarias since the new chef arrived?? it's always been my favorite, and i'm wondering how the menu has changed. will they still have the same sunday brunch?

Best Restaurant Not in a Major Texas City - Texas

rockport--hemingway's
corpus--water st.
mcallen--palenque grill
canutillo--the little diner
fabens--cattlemen's steakhouse

PF Chang's "Free entree" ad on Chound - THE CATCH

EWW!! i wouldn't eat at p.f. chang's if they paid me! we finally were worn down by the hype and recommendations of friends, so we went there. loud, subpar entrees, and our potstickers contained BONES! it's a wonder we didn't break our teeth. and i know how to make my own dipping sauce!!

The Best and Worst of El Paso

Too bad to hear about Mesa Street. I spent many an hour in the restaurant and bar years ago when it was the place to be. I've been gone from El Paso for a couple of years now, and it was starting to go down in quality even then.
