ABC Soy Sauce - Medium-Sweet

You know, I didn't even think of that as an option! I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!!!

ABC Soy Sauce - Medium-Sweet

Ok, so the Oriental Market I usually go to in Norwalk used to carry this (or special order it for me), but apparently can't/won't anymore. Even the big market over in White Plains doesn't carry it. I can only seem to find the full Sweet one otherwise.

A lot of the recipes from my dad's Indonesian side use this, and now the only options are online, which end up being double the normal price after shipping.

Does anyone know where I can find this around Fairfield County, or know of an acceptable substitute? I've only got a half bottle left!

El Charrito: Taco truck in Stamford. We have arrived!

Yea, they were away last week. Carlos went back home to Mexico or something. They started back up this past monday.

One other thing. Adam, thank you so much for posting about this place way back in April of last year. Of course I only saw it a few months after, but since I first went there, I doubt a week has gone by that I haven't made a trip.

It started out with just me and one or two other people from work. Now, there's over 15 people here who order, even some of the real big dogs! Anyway, it's truly become part of my weekly regimen and I do appreciate you letting the world know about them.

Cochinita pibil. My only regret is that I only got 2 (in addition to the Torta Toluquena), and will need to make another trip down there after work to get more! They were fantastic!

Just got back from there myself and the crew was just finishing up filming before taking a break. They sure picked a good day... 20 degrees with a wind chill that surely put it into the single digits. I think I might have ended up in a few pictures, but I'll wait and see!

Also, their last day (until March 1st) will be this thursday, so make sure you get those orders in!!!

Fairfield County/Where Are You Eating New Years Eve

Headed to the "new" Fuji restauarant in Darien which has reopened under new mgmt. Haven't been there for a while but remember that it was heading down the last time I was there. Hopefully the new owners have revitalized it, and I'm excited for the menu, which appears to now have an Asian fusion feel to it.

Sushi in Stamford?

I've gotta suggest Little Tokyo on 123 in Norwalk. Always very tasty and the staff are incredibly friendly.

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

My guess is they are done. Haven't been by the store recently, but I just happened to check their website to see if that had any additional info. Turns out the website has been taken down, so if that's gone, I'm sure it means the place has gone under.

Sabatiellos Stamford sold?

Wow, was it really there that long? I thought there was a place in there between Morelli and Sabatiellos? Oh well... my memory isn't what it used to be. :)

Sabatiellos Stamford sold?

In the case of that restaurant, I think it's a curse... IIRC restaurants in that specific location never last more than a few years.

Black Squid Ink

Pagano's Seafood in Norwalk carries it as well. I've seen small bottles of it there.

SoNo Asian Market

Not sure myself, but I have to agree with you. It seems very weird there every time I go back. Guess I'll be going back to the one on 123 for the time being.

It's a real shame tho, I thought they had a lot of promise the first time I went there.

Break some of your plumbing. Then go to Sach's plumbing in Stamford, which just happens to be right across the street! :)

anyone ever eat at Pasquales in Port Chester?

My fiance loves that place! I've never been but she's picked up stuff from there on many occasions, and it's quite good. Definitely a step above the normal Italian joint.

El Charrito: Taco truck in Stamford. We have arrived!

Finally made it down there today for lunch with a few co-workers. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Not only was the food excellent, they were very polite and explained everything perfectly.

My boss and I went with the chicken burrito while another co-worker got the mexican quesadilla. I of course went with the hot sauce, which was not super hot, but very tasty. The wait was worth it, it was one of the best burritos I've ever had. Will be making lunch runs down there next week as well for sure. Hoping there might be some specials, like the huarache Adam mentioned.

Adam, just so you know there was an article about this place in today's Stamford Advocate. You were mentioned by name. You're FAMOUS now! :)

I've been planning on checking this place out for quite some time. Trying to get an office lunch excursion this Thursday....

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

WOO HOO!!!! Validated parking for spending over $25!!! :)

Still didn't list when their official grand opening is tho...

New to Norwalk - What are the Must Haves?

If you like sushi, the other ones mentioned are nice, but I really enjoy Little Tokyo on New Canaan Ave (rt 123). It's a little place, has great ambiance, and high quality sushi. They are very friendly, and most of the times I go there, I just hand the menu to the owner and just have him bring me out imaginations of the sushi chef.

Not as pricey as SoNo places, and a little more intimate.

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

Very interesting.... I may have to try that!

Yesterday I went, and as UWS says below, they're still not fully stocked, but they did have some baby bok choy, which I absolutely love. Spoke with one of the people there and they really seem very nice. Asked about a bunch of products that I'd hope to see them carry. They seemed more than happy to order things for me, so next time I've gotta bring in the brand names.

So they had a pretty good selection of veggies already. Rice and noodles are pretty well stocked, as well as cannned veggies. They have one or 2 types of sambal, tons of soy sauce, but not the semi-sweet kind i need. No kimchi or raw peanuts yet tho. Some spices, but it looks like there will be much much more. Their frozen stuff is probably the best stocked aisle. Edamame, potstickers, shumai, and a few different types of ice cream, just to name a few.

Forgot (again) to ask about the parking validation. Went in at 6:02pm yesterday, left at 6:14, figuring i made it under the 15 min mark. Nope. $2 since it was after 6pm. :( Not a huge problem, but it is a bit of a hassle. Would be nice if they validate in the future.

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

Might head over after work today..... will update any new news...

In the meantime.... what are kaffir lime leaves and what are they used for?

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

Worked from home today and was able to stop by there quick on my lunch hour. Everyone was very polite, perhaps because I was the only customer in the store, or maybe they are just nice people. :)

There were many people unloading boxes and stocking shelves and freezers, but I was able to get a great look around. As greguar said, there are going to be a few different stations.

I asked the girl who was ringing me up what else they were going to have, and did confirm that the "kitchen" area in the back would be for take-out or sit-down dining. They'd also have a sushi bar as well.

I'd like to clarify what greguar said about the 2 large teables for veggies. Large is not the word I'd use. Immense might be a better representation. HUGE tables ready to be stocked with wholesome goodness, and as I confirmed, RAW PEANUTS!!!! :-D

Another guy told me that their grand opening won't be until September, but they'll be getting more and more stuff in as the week goes on. By the weekend there should be a good amount more, as I got the impression another big shipment was coming in Thurs or Fri.

Only spent $20, but walked away with a ton of stuff, including edamame, shumai, and noodles. Will I go back, yes.... probably this weekend! :)

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

Yep that's it! I went by last after after going to see "The Dark Knight", which I highly recommend. Sign on their front door says they open 8/1. Only a few days to go!!!

Waterfront in Fairfield County

Splash in Westport is a nice setting, plus they have a very good menu. On a nice day you can see all the way out to LI, and it has outdoor seating as well.

I'd stay away from Crabshell and Paradise Grill in Stamford. They get a bit crazy in the summer, and the view isn't all that nice.

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

What is the name of this place anyway? From what i remember reading is that it's part of a small chain from CA. Do they have a website or anything?

Restaurants in Westchester, NY

If you like sushi, I have got to recommend Seasons in White Plains on Mamaroneck Ave. It's a little pricey, but the special rolls are to die for. One of my favorite sushi places.

There's plenty others, what cuisine are you thinking?

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

Glad to know I'm not the only food nerd on here waiting for the store to open! Hopefully by the end of this week!!! :)

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

Any update?

I'm thinking about going by tomorrow to see, but does anyone else know if it's open yet?

Asian Supermarket in SoNo

You bring up a good point. I don't want to have to pay for parking just to go food shopping. Maybe they'll have some sort of parking validation thing worked out with the lot.
