Wait times at The Breslin for dinner

Hi folks,

A friend and I will be in town this weekend and I want to check out the Breslin for dinner on a Sunday around 7pm. Are we crazy?

Should we expect a long wait? Do they let people sit at the bar while they wait? Is there at least a warm place to sit and wait?

Appreciate your advice and wisdom!

Fun spot for 3 girls to eat and celebrate 1 girl's 40th birthday?

Thanks for the suggestion, Kathryn. The menu looks pretty good and the music sounds right up my alley.

Do you know anything about Barramundi? I was reading the reviews on yelp and it appealed to me.

Fun spot for 3 girls to eat and celebrate 1 girl's 40th birthday?

Would love suggestion for a place to go with my 28 year old sister (a single, tall drink of water), my childhood friend and me (both married with kids). It's my 40th birthday and I'd like to have a lazy dinner and drinks---nothing super fancy but lots of fun with good opportunity for people watching. Would like a place that plays cool music (cool to me is old school R&B. funk, disco, 80s hiphop, blue-eyed soul like Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald etc). Really should have been born in '52, not '72. :-)

My food tastes are broad so I'm open to a lot of different stuff. And it can be pretty much anywhere in the city.

Thanks!

Looking for "old school" restaurants with old fashioned American comfort food

I would second Sarge's and Eisenberg's. Would also suggest Donahue's on Lexington. Have only had a drink at the bar but the vibe was most certainly old school. Could easily be sneaky haunt for Don Draper's clandestine affairs. http://www.yelp.com/biz/donohues-stea...

Private catered venue for 40th birthday party in Toronto?

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I'm rethinking it now. May have something more intimate and spend the money on food and drink instead. :-)

Private catered venue for 40th birthday party in Toronto?

I should say that I'm looking for something relatively affordable. Under $1000 for venue and food (just appetizers). Again, am I crazy?

Private catered venue for 40th birthday party in Toronto?

I posted about this yesterday but I just want to ad a few details. I'm looking for a spot in Toronto where I can host my 40th birthday in February but it has to have a private room that will allow us to play our own music, it needs to have a dancefloor and it has to be available on a Friday or Saturday.

I"m looking to have the venue cater but I would like to have a cash bar for my guests with possibly the option of giving each guest 1 beer/wine drink ticket.

There will be 30-50 guests and I see it going from 7pm-1am.

Hotel Ocho sent me a bottle service list (i.e. $150 Grey Goose etc) but that's not what I'm after. I just want a spot that will allow my guests to order their own drinks, as they would in a bar.

Am I crazy? Does this sort of scenario not exist?

C'est What couldn't do it because they don't have a private room and I'm waiting to hear back from the Academy of Spherical Arts....

Thanks!

Ocho is a good suggestion. I've been there once and really liked the space. Being able to offer my friends a venue with stumbling distance hotel rooms is nice too. Re: food. I'd only be looking for apps and cash bar. I'm going to look into it.

... with 30-50 guests. Drinks and apps and a dancefloor---I'd like to provide my own music.

Looking for a place that has a private room. Any ideas? Would like it to be in one of the cooler hoods if possible--Leslieville, Parkdale, Roncy etc...

Thanks!

Should we expect lines at Bourgeois Pig at 6pm on a Saturday?

Kathyn,

Thanks so much. You are the bomb. I tlike the idea of the Mexican/cuban options. Much more summer-y than The Bourgeois Pig.

I'll report back.

Should we expect lines at Bourgeois Pig at 6pm on a Saturday?

I'm hoping we won't be faced with long line-ups. We're going to be there on July 23rd and I'm thinking that because it has more a fall/winter vibe (fondues, cozy red velvet etc), we'll get in no problem.

If line ups are a distinct possibility, are there any other places in the area that we could consider? Not too swank. But good grub and drinks.

Thanks!

Wondering if someone can tell me how easy it is to get to the Fort Greene Brooklyn Flea from Smorgasburg.

Also---any good breakie ideas to partake of at Smorgasburg?

Thanks!

Clinton St. Baking Company or somewhere near Brooklyn Flea for breakie?

Thanks for the helpful advice, Kathryn. That potential 2hr wait pretty much kills it for me. Williamsburg, it is!

Clinton St. Baking Company or somewhere near Brooklyn Flea for breakie?

Trying to decide if we should check out Clinton St. Baking Co. or head straight into Williamsburg for breakie. We can't make it to Smorgasburg on the Sat but I'm sure there's some good options on Sunday, no?

I've heard bad things about the lineups at Clinton...

Also, it would be incredibly helpful to get some transit advice---how does one get from Water St. in the Financial District to Clinton and E. Houston or alternatively how do we get from Water St. to the heart of Williamsburg by subway?

Thanks, folks!

Casual spot for quality cocktails or craft beer

Thanks for the assurance that Crocs will fly at Death and Co. Thankfully, I plan to have something a notch or two above the holed wonders. A pair of socially conscious TOMS perhaps.

So what are the main differences between M&H, D&Co and LB? Is the food better at any of them? Does one attract a younger crowd? Is one quieter than others? Ideally I want to be able to hear my friend over our drinks/din. We're both 39. :-)

Casual lunch near Madison and 32nd?

Wow. Thanks, folks. Certainly no shortage of choices. What is the main difference between 2nd Ave Deli and Sarge's? The Breslin sounds awesome. And a cousin of mine recommended Artisanal. Maybe we'll try that for dins. Thanks again, gang. :-)

Looking for an understated spot that is known for its bevvies but doesn't expect you to be dressed to the nines to imbibe.

I suspect the likes of Milk & Honey, Little Branch, Death & Co. are a bit too fancy. Am I wrong?

We'll be there in July so a patio might be nice---thought not essential.

Thanks!

Casual lunch near Madison and 32nd?

Coming from Toronto. I've been to a NYC few times but my pal hasn't been there for 20 years (since a highschool art trip). To give you an idea of where I've been---Spotted Pig, Pastis, John's Pizzeria on Bleeker, Claude Patisserie, Bar Centrale....

I love deli food. Was wondering if Sarge's is walking distance. Was there in Feb 2010 and really liked the pastrami and coleslaw.

Also like Mexican, Indian, Italian. Would prefer to avoid Thai, Korean and Japanese as Toronto has an abundance of those places.

Would prefer to keep it under $20-25 per person (tax and tip included). Thanks!

My friend and I are going to be killing time before we can check into our hotel (Roger Williams). Can anyone recommend a good lunch spot where we can linger, not spend a fortune and feel like a local?

Open to pretty much anything.

Where on Ossington should I take my hip 30-something Manhattan pals?

Any suggestions on where to go with my NYC pals on Sunday night? They took us to the Spotted Pig in NY last Feb. (where I had sublime gnudi with sage butter). Check it!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/8987419@...

Is there anything gastropub-ish on Ossington? I've only been to Libretto.

Also, it would be fun to have a pre-dinner cocktail at one place and then dins somewhere else. Cocktails don't have to be on Ossington. We'll be making our way from the Hyatt at King and Peter so anything on the way would be great.

Thanks!

Good breakfast near Lafayette and Broome?

Thanks for the ideas, all. I think we'll go with Falai. The plethora of baked eggs and pastries sounds pretty awesome. I'm going to look into Motorino too.
