Mexican in Columbus/Dublin?

Our two favorite places :
Cuco's Taqueria-2162 Henderson Rd www.cucostaqueria.com/
El Arepazo (Latin Grill) 47 North Pearl St. www.elarepazolatingrill.com/

Tickets Restaurant- worth the wait?

Yes, indeed!!! I had dinner there last night and it was awesome! The whole dining exp, not just the food. Ferran was nice enough to pose for a picture as well. What a way to spend the first night in the city. ;)

Top Chef All Stars Reunion Show

After I watch these reunion shows I always think afterwards "Boy, I could have skipped that" The best part was watching Elmo and Cookie monster behind the scenes. Is it only me who thinks that Andy dude doing the interviewing is annoying as hell? Isn't he the pres. of Bravo or something... shocking!! Hey Andy , give Dale his check!! I was SOO glad to see Elia gone the first episode- what a crybaby! Grass, corn feed-gotta make your customers happy -whatever goes-to each his own.

English Menu offered to you when dining...

PBSF,
Thank you very much for your thoughts, all of your posts have been very informative in helping my husband and I plan our first visit to Barcelona & San Se.

English Menu offered to you when dining...

I always thought when dining abroad when you are given an English Menu that restaurant must not be worth their salt. When I was in Rome in 2007 my husband and I were seated in a back room and given a single pink piece of paper with a very limited menu in English...I almost walked out. I didn't and the meal was alright, nothing special that's for sure.
What do you think??
We are going to be visiting Barcelona for a week in May and I love to study up on all the food terms and words so I can read the regular menu in all it's glory. I am a little nervous about reading a Catalonia menu- Spanish food words don't seem the same (maybe it's just me) I wonder just how many restaurants have their regular menu translated in English since Barcelona and Madrid are now major foodie destinations.
Thanks!

Cleveland - West Side Market Recs?

I second that! I just got some today and its great stuff at $13 a pound.

A weekend in Cleveland

I was just at Melt at their newer location-service was good but the food was ok, both grilled cheese were not close to being crispy or the cheese melty. I had a great dinner at Momocho on Fulton. Lucky's cafe is a great spot in Tremont, we also enjoyed The Greenhouse Tavern downtown-fantastic duck fat frites!

Top Chef Masters 2 Ep. #2 - 04/14/10 (Spoilers)

Did I see this right, that next weeks judges are going to be the housewives of Orange county?? PLEASE!!!!!
That is so wrong on so many levels!!

A recent review of Melt Bar & Grilled, Lakewood (Cleveland) Ohio

Lovely! Next time I'm in Cleveland I'm stopping in for sure! Also gotta hit Lucky's cafe for their cupcakes and brunch!

Michael Symon - overhyped/overexposed?

Have you tried "B Spot" burger in Woodmere, Ohio? Really, really great burgers and the sides are just as delicious.
A few years ago we ran into Mike Symon in an elevator in downtown Minneapolis while doing a James Beard dinner, really nice down to earth guy.

A recent review of Zingerman's, Ann Arbor MI

Love Zingerman's especially their coffeecakes, scones and quiches. Haven't tried the roadhouse doughnuts but they are supposed to be one of the best. A few years back we tried the whole empire road trip too, the roadhouse JUST opened and I was very curious why the fried chix entree cost $20.00. I got back home wrote them a letter and about three nights later we had the owner Ari call our house to explain the questions in my letter. Sometimes when I go to Hills Market in Columbus they will gave Zingerman's coffee cakes and candy bars. West Point Market in Akron also carries some of their products.

Jamie Oliver's "Food revolution" on ABC. Watch it if you are concerned about the obesity epidemic.

LOVE Jamie Oliver, takes a lot of guts to do what he does and he leaves his wife and young daughters for months at a time to help and get the word out to eat better so we all can live happier, healthier lives.
The people who believe "he wants to TELL us what to eat and what to do" are not getting the point, he just wants adults to help children make informed healthy choices and know there are other options out there besides chicken fingers and bagel bites.
GO Jamie!!!

Welcome home!

Visiting Cleveland, which restaurants I should not miss ?

Lucky's Cafe in the Tremont area for sure! It's a great farm to table restaurant with fantastic food and a small dessert case to die for!
Greenhouse Tavern was named best restaurant by Bon App. magazine and the chef there is a James Beard nominee this year, they have wonderful duck fat fries.
Mike Symon's new burger joint in Woodmere, ohio is cool as well, 16 tap beers and burgers I'd drive two hours for because they are that good...."The B Spot"

Thai food in Columbus, OH

One of our favorites is "Nida's Thai on High" it's in the Short North district-they close for lunch at 2pm and re-open around 5 pm.
Other options are "Chi Thai" on the north side, "Thai Orchid" in the Dublin area-try the newer location -NOT the one on Sawmill rd & there is more of a Chinese Asian restaurant called "Hunan Lion" that is very good with Thai dishes on the menu on Bethel Rd.

No Reservations: Hudson Valley

I thought the show was horrible, really a shame too. The scenery was nice, they treated the CIA as a joke. Perhaps 2 smart remarks from the girl would have been "cute" but that was WAY too redundant, pathetic really.
They really made me believe that the Hudson Valley didn't have much to offer. I will say the food that Bourdain and Murray ate did look quite tasty and the Chef's backyard feast would have been a real treat.

Fried chicken in Columbus, Oh?

local blogger focusing on breakfasts in town:

Fried chicken in Columbus, Oh?

Southern-Fried Chicken an Amish raised half chicken with grilled sweet potatoes, Maytag blue cheese braised onions, and a maple-vinegar reduction $20.00 at G. MICHAELS in the German Village area.

BANANA BEAN CAFE has Fried Chicken and Waffles
VONN JAZZ and BLUES also has Chicken and Waffles

As far as the complete dinner of Fried Chix and Mash-nothing is ringing a bell at this moment and Columbus isn't much of a soul food town.

Good Eats - Diet Food Episode

Yankeefan,
I certainly agree with you that the "old" Alton Brown is missed. For me I started to notice the change when he was doing those road trips across the US, just the way he spoke to some people seemed very disrespectful. My husband always thought he was way too anal, which explains how he could lose 50 pounds in 9 months. I gotta admit that is pretty amazing and I am glad he showed us how he did it, but indeed we do miss the old Alton of years ago. Thanks for posting because now we know it's not just us thinking he was being a class a jerk.

Best CHEAP hidden gems in Columbus, OH?

Just want to remind everyone that "Restaurant Week" in Columbus is January 18th to the 23rd-looks like the highest three course dinner is $35.00 (french restaurant called the Refectory and most steakhouses) and the most inexpensive is $15.00 at the Columbus Brewing Co.

we have reservations to Momofuku Ko, where else can we eat instead?

Uhockey, awaiting your return back to C-bus, can't wait to see what you think of the place. Are you planning on visiting Chang's Milk Bar? Be safe and Happy New year!

Am I the only hound who gets excited whenever a new River Cottage show comes out?

Snack happy,
I totally agree with you, Hugh Fearnley-Wearnley is great television watching and his cookbooks are amazing. I really wish the Food Channel would pick up more culinary programs that are produced in London and Canada, I was in Italy in May and many of the cooking programs on TV were very interesting and informative. We've got to let America know there's more talent out there than just Gordo, Nigella and Jamie Oliver (to which I enjoy all three of them very much)

Juergen's Bakery, Columbus OH

You did call to confirm, good for you! I'll revise my statement to say "Most of the time it will prevent you from getting burned" :)
I did actually special order something for my X mas dinner and the place in the North market gave me the deer in the headlights look when i came to pick it up. I'm an easy going person i guess , i was disappointed but went with something else they offered-not going to help anything if i throw a fit or bad mouth the place-always have a plan B.
G Michael's does rock-wish they were closer to Dublin

Juergen's Bakery, Columbus OH

Diane, I did second the Hyde park remark, as an alternative I suggested J Gilberts due to the fact that it would be less expensive- not everyone wants to pay $75 plus a head if you include cocktails.
J Gilberts is a great place for the price considering it's a corp company like Hyde park. You are not paying for a la carte sides-each entree comes with a starch and a veg, the atmosphere is warm and inviting & they are continuously winning first place for their food in local events. By no means is this steakhouse like the ones you encounter in NYC but for central Ohio locals it's lovely.
I've never been to the Top Steakhouse, since it's not close to Dublin but I've heard good things about it and will check it out someday.
As far as catering or a special order, mistakes happen, it's part of any business. Some people think it's a pain to pick up the phone and confirm an order a few days before the event but it does help from getting burned. Now with the holiday season upon us hospitality businesses are CRAZY busy-there are bound to be mix ups and forgotten orders.
