Help with Chicken Wing deals
25 cent wings at the Draft on tuesdays as well, They have 5 or 6 different flavors, but I'd stay away from the parm garlic.. they sound good but are a creamy mess.
Help with Chicken Wing deals
Bon chon is expensive ...50 cent wings for them is def a deal. They're fried twice so they take about 30 minutes to cook, come in two flavors, hot and soy garlic. They're not goey or heavily batter like other wings, just crispy skin with great sauces.
Help with Chicken Wing deals
tues night at the kells they sell bon chon, 50 cent wings
What has happened to fine dining?
I agree about the desserts. Normally I'm not huge on desserts, but IMO it was the best part of the meal. The raspberry panna cotta and choc banana desserts were playful, light, and tasty.
As for the rest of the meal, bland and believe it or not, overcooked. The pate tasted like whipped butter, and the sweat breads like any misc fried food. Don't get me wrong, I love me some butter and fried anything, but these two dishes were missing their yummy distinct flavors. Both fish dishes were overcooked..and one of them was oil poached. I was under the impression that if you regulate the oil temp it is very hard to overcook anything poached..but then again I aint no chef.
Thought service was great and sommelier very helpful.
So where's the **%$!!* Dark Meat?
I'm gunna have to say that I don't see the problem with a preference for white meat. I love dark meat in braised and stewed dishes (and of course fried) but I like white meat in my chicken salad and grilled. I can understand why Will is annoyed with the lack of dark meat options (I mean come on, no fried thighs!) but I don't think that it means white meat loves are bland or boring. Different recipes call for different cuts of an animal. For example, you would throw a porterhouse in a slow cooker or quick grill a chuck shoulder.... and chicken is no different. I don't discriminate on color, give me dark and white please!
Best quality vegatables at inexpensive prices?
super 88 allston, you may want to pick veggies in season but the prices are great.
need a Foodie vacation spot in N.E.
Well said! if you think someone is missing a great chow place than make a rec...isn't the point of chow hound to learn of and help others find great chow?

What are the 10 most essential things in your spice cupboard?
what about five spice! im surprised no one mentioned it yet. I use a dash in so many dishes...most of the time it's not the star spice, but i even even add it to my chili and bolognese and everyone asks about the undefinable flavor.
Unexpected finds
mcd vanilla soft serve is amazing, and there coffee is surprisingly ok when im in a rush...much better then dunkin d's
Deep Ellum/Blue Ribbon (5/9/08)

High Protein/Low Fat/Low Cal Protein Snacks?
i love cottage cheese and franks hot sauce!
Pho---can it be ordered without the noodles?
As others have said, of course you can order pho without noodles (a shame IMO). Also, some places have yam or watercrest flour noodles that have basically no cals or carbs.
Pork - the "other white meat"?
Pork chops and pork tenderlion have become sooo lean over the years that they can be compaired to chicken breast in fat content. Although I'm very health conscience, it think its a shame that its getting harder and harder to get a regular pork chop (not double thick) that doesnt dry out the minute it hits the pan. I know there are many tricks for keeping them moist..ie brining...but i love me some beautiful marbling.
Give me back the pork fat!
Thai Place
Anyone try the aptly named 'Thai Place' on Brighton ave in Allston. It has the misfortune of being so close to S&I (with such a loyal following I don’t know if anyone would try another Thai restaurant so close by).

I just go back from mexico and I can't get enough of saltines with guacamole. Everywhere I went in mexico they served saltines and tortilla chips with the ceviche, and for some reason the guac on the saltines, instead of the chips, was extra amazing.

Healthy processed foods?
I heat up frozen broccoli and tofu in the microwave when I’m in a rush, ssooo easy and high in protein and fiber. I also love imitation crab because it’s a protein that I don’t have to cook it (I just put some marinara sauce and heat it in the microwave) and it’s made from white fish so it is easy to digest and much lower in cholesterol then real crab. Edamame for snacking.

I seem to go through food "addictions" fazes where I constantly crave one particular food. I will wake up in the morning with the thought of the food in my head. My recent past addiction have been
- plain old bread( anything fresh) and butter
- salmon sashimi
-Sriracha
-soft serve vanilla ice cream?????
My current constant craving is the root vegetable Taro boiled in broth…..

Returning to beantown...
I agree about the variety. I just moved here from a place where I had to drive 40 minutes to get Korean food, so you can image how excited I'm am to be in Allston! I checked out old post and it seems that I have to beg the workers to prepare the dishes "Thai" style aka not Americanized. Good to know the in’s at a place I live and work by.
Returning to beantown...
I think I'm ordering the wrong things at s&i because i've had it twice and it was bad. I got buckwheat noodles (brighton ave noodle?) and they had no flavor. I also ordered the shrimp and brocc and there as absolutely no sauce on it. I've heard good things from the chow board - any suggestions on what to order allstonian?
Athan's Bakery... disappointing
i've tried the green tea, chocolate, hazelnut, pistachio, and black current gelatos. All are good...green tea and chocolate are great. Black forest cake is your best bet, but i dont think any of the pastrys are anything special, even when they're fresh. One thing good I can say about the pastries and gelatos are that they don't over sweeten them.
Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good
I've actually had a wasabi green tea ice cream with a black sesame brittle at a viet restaurant.
Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

paesans???
I didn't believe that it actually said that until I checked out the website for myself!!!!! This has to be a joke. Does this mean if you order a burger med and it comes well you can't send it back?
unusual dining
Funny, because “artisanal, but unpretentious” is just how I would describe my friend. I plan on bringing her to Angela’s and Toscana at some point in the next couple of days (she in town from wed-sat). Anyone know where I can find Vinny's at Night menu?
Some advice on Boston kitchen stores
Marshells and TJmaxx surprisingly often carry Le Creuset pieces. I bought a large Dutch oven, a grill pan, and a pie dish there for great prices.
