Dinner at Santi, Geyserville

We have had our Christmas party lunch at Santi for several years. Sad to say this will be our last. I am a dentist in Healdsburg and my staff and I enjoy the food, the relaxed atmosphere and the wines from the area. Several of the wines we've had are produced by some of our patients. So much fun. Santi will be sorely missed.

Saturday breakfast or brunch in Calistoga?

Solage resort has a beautiful brunch/breakfast served out by the pool with the palisades in the background. It's hard to beat in Calistoga. Jole is also great, but it's inside the Mountain View Hotel.

Where to get good, fresh uni?

I recently saw a wonderful recipe for pasta with uni. I need a good reliable source for fresh uni for the recipe. What sources would you recommend?

Calistoga, Napa, SF - Itinerary Critique Please!

I live in Calistoga and I agree it's better to eat there instead of traveling down valley. Your time will be less hectic. My choices for dining would be first Jole, second Solage especially for a leisurely lunch and finally All Season's Bistro. Spring has arrived so you should have perfect weather for your visit. Enjoy

New Dim Sum in Santa Rosa

Has anyone tried the dim sum palace called Hang Ah? It used to be the A&W Rootbeer stand on Steele Lane just off the 101 Hwy. Oh I hope it's good!

Cyrus transportation question

It is not a drive you want to do after any dinner. It involves driving down the 101 to Santa Rosa and then taking a two lane highway 12 through small towns to Sonoma.Try to stay in Healdsburg at the Hotel Healdsburg and you can walk to and from dinner. A good second choice would be to stay in Santa Rosa.

Another Dinner @ S & T Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant, SF

Thank You Melanie. I saw your post on Friday and I had a strong desire for good Chinese take out. I live in Calistoga so the food has to be able to travel. I got to the restaurant right at 5:00pm. on Saturday and made my order. I ordered the pork neck,(at first he looked confused then I said "you know the pork not on the menu". He knew immediately),roast squab, salt and pepper squid, and prawns with mayo and canied walnuts. I drove home which took about ninety minutes and reheated. Everything was delicious. The texture of the squid was not great, but the flavor was all there. They actually use squid as compared to other restaurants that use cuttle fish. The flavor is definitely better with the real thing. I moved from LA five years ago and this is the best take home I have had here. There aren't many ethnic restaurants in the North Bay.

Am I Forgetting Anything in Sonoma?

Go to the original Willy's Wine Bar on the Old Redwood Hwy. It has a huge menu of small dishes and there is something to please everyone. They have local wines and friendly service. It's just off HWY 101 north of Santa Rosa. 4404 Old Redwood Hwy. 707 526-3096.

Healdsburg Dinner Recommendations

I work in Healdsburg and my favorite place for dinner is in Geyserville. The restaurant is Santi and it is Italian food like your grandmother used to make. They have a wine list from the local wineries and they use lots of ingredients from their own graden. Its just about five miles north on 101 and it is well worth the trip. Enjoy.

Sonoma County source of lemon or lime basil plants?

You can order them at this address: kitazawaseed.com
Enjoy.

Sonoma County source of lemon or lime basil plants?

I agreee the lemon basil is the best. I grow it every year from seed with no problem.
Last year I bought a plant at a nursery, but it was soon eclipsed by the seed grown plants.

What NYC foods would you want as a gift?

My New York friends bring me bagels from Zabars. I split them and freeze them to toast later. What a treat! I used to request pickles and hot tomatoes from Gus's pickles, but with the liquid restrictions on the airlines, that's no longer possible.

July Napa/Sonoma Trip

Why all the venom? People are only trying to be helpful.

July Napa/Sonoma Trip

I drive to Healdsburg from Calistoga every day for work. I don't break the speed limit and it takes me 35-40 minutes. It's an easy drive.

July Napa/Sonoma Trip

If you are going to be in Healdsburg, you might try to get a reservation at Cyrus. It is a wonderful restaurant on par with The French Laundry. This is a destination restaurant not a casual vacation dinner. For something more casual I recommend Santi Taverna Restaurant in Geyserville. It just a few miles north of Healdsburg on 101. It's worth the trip. They do wonderful Italalian home cooking just like grandma with lots or fresh ingredients from around the valley including a great wine list from small wineries nearby.

Sonoma in April! Good lunch suggestions?

Since you plan to be in Healdsburg, you should just go a few miles north to Geyserville and try Santi. It's a wonderful Italian restaurant that uses many ingredients from their own garden. I live in the area and it is a favorite. Check to see which days they are open for lunch. Enjoy

Healdsburg/Russian River Valley help

Yes, Old Timer you are right about Mirepoix. I took my staff there a year ago for our Holiday lunch and it was excellent.

Poonjiaji's Kebab Paste [Moved from San Francisco Board]

I bought a jar of Poonjiaji's Kebab Paste to use with ground beef to make kebabs, but there is no recipe on the jar. Has anyone used this product? How much would you estimate to flavor a pound of ground beef. Thanks for your advice

sushi in Napa Valley

Go Fish in St. Helena has a excellent sushi bar. They also have a full fish and seafood menu. It is the most recent effort of the lady who owns and runs Mustards restaurant.

Healdsburg/Russian River Valley help

You mentioned Willi's and I think that would be a good choice. Willi's Winebar in Healdsburg serves imaginative seafood in a small plate format. You can sit outside and that might be fun for lunch. The original Willi's is south on Old Redwood Hwy. and it has a much larger and more eclectic menu. It's busy and fun for dinner. It has a huge menu so go hungry. Enjoy.

dinner in Calistoga

I live in Calistoga and I think you may enjoy All Seasons Cafe if you are willing to spend a little more. They have a great menu and a huge wine list. They only charge 15% above retail, so it is a good place to try new wines from the area.
