9+ days in Mexico City: The Trip Report

Hi, we are headed to visit friends in Mexico City 5/4-5/11 (with a side trip to San Miguel for 2 nights). We want to take our friends out to a lovely dinner, but not sure where to take them. Are Pujol or Dulce Patria good choices to say thank you? Are there other suggestions? Our friends have lived in Mexico City for many years and we just want to take them some place they may not have been but with excellent food and excellent atmosphere. Thanks again (fyi - i have printed your posting kukubura to take with us - thank you)

Looking for corn beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's day

Thank you for the suggestions. Olde Magoun looks promising. The cooking at home would normally be my choice but again my Nana cooked corn beef and cabbage frequently and I absolutely hate the stuff. Hate the smell of it and don't want it in my house! Yes, my Nana was a terrible cook.

Looking for corn beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's day

I don't eat the stuff (grandmother kinda ruined it for me), but husband really wants corned beef and cabbage this year. We both abhore the "scene" in Boston on St. Patrick's but wondered IFyou were to venture out for corned beef where would you go? North Shore destinations are also welcome. Thanks.

Sausage making courses

Actually have Charcuterie. Trying to fine tune the techniques of sausage making and expand the horizons. Thought a one day course might be helpful.

Sausage making courses

I'm trying to find a sausage making course in the New England area. I missed one in York, Maine at Stonewall that was held on November 19th. Any one have any suggestions?

Thanks

Steak Tips

Thanks Bob for your gentlemanly concern! This isn't a mom/daughter date. She's a kid I've been mentoring for about 5 years. She'll be fine - as long as these tips are as good as their rep (though I must admit I've always heard good things about New Bridge - just have never been).

And thank you everyone else for the suggestions. I'll let you know how the darling likes her tips!

Steak Tips

Looking for a place to take a 19 year old who loves steak tips. Her favorite tips are served at the Black Cow in Newburyport, but I'm looking for something closer to Boston (or in Boston). I'm a non-meat eater so looking for some help. Thanks.

Pasta Beach... anyone?

Yes, was there for dinner about a month ago. Stick with the pasta. Of the 3 diners only the person who got pasta enjoyed their meal. I had a seared tuna salad that was more green leaves than tuna. It was an odd presentation and I didn't enjoy it. My husband had beef that was dry. Our friend had pasta and raved about it. So stick with the pasta. I understand that is what they are known for and if I go back, that is what I will have.

Turks & Caicos

Headed to TCI in March and looking for suggestions. We love local food and stay away from hotel restaurants, but will go to a hotel for cocktails and views.

We will have a car and we rented a house, so we have a kitchen. One of the must dos is to travel to the South Side and get fresh fish/lobster from the fisherman when they come home. But that is about all I know.

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

September Openings and Closings

Thanks, but must say that is a really dumb name.

September Openings and Closings

There is a "pasta joint" going in the old Rudy's space at the Boston Harbor Hotel (obtained info from doorman). Long counter space with stools and what looks like a take-out counter. No name, but the counters, lighting, stools and electronics are in, so I'm assuming the signage should be arriving soon.

Farmers' Markets, Farm Stands, CSAs etc. Early July

The Wakefield Farmers Market is scheduled to open this weekend (finally!).

Charlestown / Shipyard Quarters Marina

And if you don't have a tender, take the water shuttles that leave from Flagship Wharf. They are operated by the T and take you to Long Wharf next to the Aquarium.

Baltimore - crabs & good eats

Thought I would post about our trip to Baltimore for crabs. Went to Mike's in Riva but for the first time was disappointed. They sold us larges that were really mediums, but it was a beautiful day and the eating was still good.

Sunday at Blue Moon. Usually we go there and it is just 2 of us, so the wait is manageable. We were 4 this time and it was impossible. It came down to, "we invested this much time, we might as well keep waiting". But it really was ridiculous! Though I do love their food. Probably won't go there next time there is a game in town.

Did drive by Canton Dockside, but because we had to wait for Blue Moon, we never got back there.

Next time Baltimore.

Alchemy Co-op in Melrose

Can't stand Shaws. Went there one summer and there were flys buzzing around the tomatoes. It is so gross.

Hmmm, food co-op in Melrose. Could be interesting if they source local, but if you MUST be a member than it'll be a drag.

Lobster prices today?

Saw $5.99 at Hook yesterday

Baltimore - crabs & good eats

Thanks!

Baltimore - crabs & good eats

Surprised that I haven't gotten a response on this, but my further searching as confirmed that neither Nicks or LP Steamers are good choices.

I'm trying to bump this back up in the hopes someone will give me a few suggestions for a great weekend in a great town.

Thanks!

Busy Bee Bakery in Melrose

I stopped by yesterday and bought two Belgium chocolate cookies. They were very good, but I did get a very anxious vibe from the the Owner. She does seem very nervous. Hopefully it is opening jitters and she can correct the minor flaws. The space is lovely. Clean and sunny with tables in the window to eat your purchases. I wish them luck.

Baltimore - crabs & good eats

Headed to Baltimore for the weekend. Looking for crabs and wondering which would be a better choice LP Steamers or Nick's? Also looking for great breakfast spots. Love Blue Moon and Miss Shirley's, but always looking for new and fun places.

Will have car and can travel out of the metro area if necessary.

Thanks!

Quick dinner for 1 in or very near the North End

Not sure what time you will be dining, but I was going to suggest Neptune Oyster on Salem Street in the NE. Great dining place for one person. They have a great bar to sit at and enjoy. Sel de la Terre is next to the Aquarium and again good single dining.

fiddleheads 2010

I wash them in a bowl until there is no grit left in the bottom of the bowl and the water is clear. They can be very gritty sometimes.

My favorite prep is the same as Allstonian. Simple and you really get the taste of the fiddleheads. Now I gotta go get me some!

HELP: Lunch near Fed. Courthouse tomorrow?

There are several restaurants on Broad Street. JA Stats has pretty good food and a lot of people I know lunch a Mr. Dooley's.

"Ace of Cakes" style cakeries in the Boston Area?

O, and I just remembered, what about Cake in Lexington?

"Ace of Cakes" style cakeries in the Boston Area?

Truly Jorg's exists. It is in Saugus, Route 1 N right before Jimmy's Steak house

April openings and closings

LuLu's Sweet Shop is open on Salem Street in the NE. In the location of the old Dairy Fresh (miss that place!). From a peak in the window looks like bakery items and "penny" candy.

Suggestions for Coppa

Thank you for the insights. I'll have to work on this! Birthday dinner will have to be a reservation (not fair to make someone wait for their birthday dinner). Coppa will have to be another night.
