Gotta give a shout out to Horace & Dickies as well in NE

Hole in the wall places open after 2am

Oh Kabob Palace in Crystal city (which is similar to Ravi Kabob) is also very good and open either super late or 24 hrs. Mehran in Foggy Bottom is also in the same vein as Kabob Palace and Ravi but no where near as good, IMHO. Also open super late.

Rocklands - 'meh' says this Southern boy.

I just visited B'z today in Leesburg. Sounds like they change what they make on a day-to-day basis. Today they had Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket. Both were very good and very fresh. We tried the coleslaw and baked beans and they were pretty good. The sauce for the pork is tomato based, and if I'm going to nitpick, was a little more "tomatoey" than I usually like it. Also nitpicking, on both the pork and the beef there was a little more excess fat than there should be.

Overall though on freshness alone it gets high marks from me.

Late night Dessert?

Buzz in Alexandria is open till midnight... Also here is a good recent blog posting on the Washingtonian about late night eats:

Good authentic Chinese in Alexandria/Arlington?

I second that, I do like Full Kee in Bailey's Crossroads a lot as well.

Good authentic Chinese in Alexandria/Arlington?

IMHO, I think you can do better elsewhere (China Garden). I live in Rosslyn and I would rather travel out to Marks Duck House for Dim Sum.

On a side note I have heard not so good things from my friends about Fortune for dim sum, tho its gotten good marks from the post and the washingtonian. What do you all think about it?

Frustrated with DC

One of the things this area does well and happens to fit your bill is Vietnamese. Do you have a car? Eden Center in Falls Church is a def area to try out.

Awesome... thx for the tip! Always ready to try a new BBQ place.

Good authentic Chinese in Alexandria/Arlington?

Hong Kong Palace is great Schezuan. More Canton style and great is Mark's Duck house. I have also heard good things about Peking Gourmet Inn and A & J Restaurant. Links below.

You should def check Rockville, Md out at some point... many of the best chinese places are out there.

According to Mighty Midget Kitchen's website they moved to a market type place:

http://mightymidgetkitchen.com/

It says they should be open in march... hopefully its true!

It's in La Plata Md. I do need to get out there and try it.

The ribs are are really solid at Jammin Joes in my opinion. The pulled pork I think would be better if they went easier on the sauce as its too sweet for my taste. Overall though pretty decent for DC metro as far as I have tasted.... A place I wanted to like is Carolina Brothers in Ashburn, but their pork had the consistency meat soaked in water from being in the steam bin too long. Their ribs didn't look or taste like they were smoked very much if at all.

I haven't seen any mention of Dixie Bones or Johnny Boys Ribs, or Virginia BBQ. What do you all think about those places (as I have yet to visit)?

I know this isn't super close, but I like Jammin Joes near Warrenton. Whenever I am out that way (usually on the way to the shenandoah or winery tours), I stop by. Its a smoker/shack on wheels with a bunch of outdoor tables.

Anybody try Mighty Midget Kitchen in Leesburg (I know it was supposed to have moved)?

Pierogis in the District?

What about the Kielbasa Factory in Rockville? http://kielbasafactory.com

Saturday brunch in foggy bottom

Ok... I cheated cause I was curious too. I went to the washingtonian website and did a search for weekend brunch in FB. It lists:

Kinkeads
Circle Bistro
Dish (The River Inn)
Blue Duck Tavern

I've never had brunch at any of these though so I can't speak for if they are good. If you extend that search out to Georgetown and Dupont the list grows quite a bit more (by like 20+)

World Beer Cup 2008 Local Winners

Ah we only live once..... its certainly worth an occasional indulgence. I've been pretty happy with Sweetwater's food. Rock Bottom is decent too. I guess I should start paying better attention to the beer.

Looking for recs in Alexandria

Lunch Spots in Foggy Bottom?

I wish. Went to school and work at GW. We've needed a decent late night place for forever. Late nite things here are:

1. $tarbuck$.
2. Manuch (late nite hot dog guy).
3. Coney Island (mostly ice cream).

Only real option is to walk to gtown or dupont.

Lunch Spots in Foggy Bottom?

IMHO the food is only ok... I have only gone twice. Happy hour has been pretty good, cheap, at least for beer.

Lunch Spots in Foggy Bottom?

Not sure exactly where you have gone already, but Breadline and the Greek Deli are pretty good and dirt cheap. For sit down El Chalan is good and affordable peruvian fare, Kaz Sushi Bistro is good.... prices are on the higher end of what you are looking for. Circle Bistro is also on the high end of what you are looking for but close and pretty good.

Grilling Classes in the area

I can't speak for how good they are but check out the classes on tastedc.com. They had a BBQ class that got rescheduled to I don't know when, but I see a Beef grilling one on there now.
