Lobster, fairly mature 11 year old near Century City - any ideas??
Thanks All - I am thinking the Palm is the best .. We all live in the South Bay so it would be fun to show him Old School Hollywood - since he is not exposed to it as much.

IN desparate need of a great meal SB or beyond?
Just got back from an extended working trip that started in January and just ended. I NEED an AWESOME MEAL. We live in Southbay so want to start locally and spread beyond - Have done all the local favs of Christines', Gina Lee, Musha, etc but what about Terrenea, or? Craving everything and anything.. So if nothing hits the spot in SB we will roam anywhere to satisfy the need. We are a fan of all food - I don't eat any land based animals and DH eats everything.
Looking forward to all of your suggestions.

Fiance's 40th - Spago, Cut, Craft, Dan Tanas,?? HELP
Thanks New Trial -
I just did a quick look and of the three I am leaning towards Hatfield's or All'Angelo. Have you had the tasting menu at Hatfields and if so would you recommend it? I didn't see a tasting menu at All'Angelo do you know if they have one? Thanks again!! Really appreciate it.
Fiance's 40th - Spago, Cut, Craft, Dan Tanas,?? HELP
Hi All
My Fiance's 40th is at the end of August, though we live in the South Bay I have a hotel room for us at the Renaissance on Highland and want to take him out for a great fun dinner. Here is my problem I am stuck where. We have eaten at Jar, Lucques (a favorite), IL Pastaio, Ozza Pizzeria and I want us to go some place new. We both tend to like great ingredients prepared simply.-- Money is kind of issue -- We are getting married next year and don't want to blow too much on this. As much as I want to go to Providence we are going to have to pass for now. Also pass on Asian food since we tend to eat a lot where we live in the South Bay. Where would you suggest we go and what food would you recommend for us, tasting menus, etc?
Thank you so much!
Kat
PS Searched the board for ideas and I am still stuck .. thanks
Americans Eating Abroad
Back in '82 as a 15 year old exchange student I went to South Africa and spent 3 months there. I loved trying all the different foods but near the end I did go to their local McDonald's and I just remember the hamburger tasting weird.
Now days I travel quite a bit and strive to find local food. But like Hillfood said it was fun and kooky to eat Chinese food in Seoul. Most of my friends are the same way.. you have to try the local joints that is part of the adventure of traveling.
Palmdale/Lancaster/Antelope Valley Eats
I am not familiar with area so I don't know if any of these restaurants are in Mojave. My BF's dad is racing out at Rosamond in April and we are going to be staying in Mojave - Any recs? Reading this post I wish we were staying in Lancaster
TIA!

WineStyles - Cool wine bar in South Pasadena
Wine Styles are all independately owned and operated. Each store has its own strength and weaknesses. The one in Torrance is owned by a couple who love wine, know wine and taste every single bottle they put in their store and stand behind each bottle sold. The concept might be a little simple but the wines in their store are not. Plus they are close enough for wine tasting and we can ride our bikes back.

Gary's knife sharpening is at various farmer's markets in LA..

There is a pretty funny video on there as well
Who has the best chai latte in SoCal?
I love the vanilla chai at Bean Town in Sierra Madre and Alta in Newport Beach. Both are great family run locations and use the same chai mix. I don't know what it is but I love it and they have spice flavor as well.
Tired of Baja Fresh, Chipotle
Went to Fresca's last night in Anaheim and had the fish taco (fried) and shrimp taco for dinner. The fish taco came out so hot I couldn't eat it for a little bit. And I have asbestos fingers. When I could eat it the batter was not cake on too much .. which I like and had really good flavors. The shrimp taco was good as well. The salsa bar was not great but ok.
They only have locations in OC which is too bad since I live in the South bay and can't seem to get great mexican there..

Ethnic experience that we can't get in Los Angeles
Hi All -
We are coming to NYC the first week of November and I am looking for at least one ethnic restaurant and other restaurant experience that we can't get in LA. Last time there I got to go to Babbo which I LOVED but looking for something new. We love Ethiopian, Indian, Italian, Asian. We get amazing Korean and Japanese here so would like to exclude those two. Also I am primarily a vegetarian but do eat some seafood. I tried searching the board but didn't come up with much for the ethnic side of things. Not worried about the price, more concerned with the food and the experience.
BTW - we are staying on 41st between 7th and 8th
Thanks in advance.

BF's Bday - South Bay looking for something new/fun
I know Admiral Risty's is kind of kooky and we have been to Izakaya Ishin (which is great) Have you been to Iccho? I have a friend who wants to go to Musha with us so I was going to wait on it. I will definitely look at Avenue. Thanks for the suggestions every one!
BF's Bday - South Bay looking for something new/fun
We go to San Pedro for food there some great breakfast joints there, I was even thinking Admiral Risty or the place at Trumps. And I have Neils Pasta on my list of "to do's" but I don't want a hit or miss on his bday night.. so how often is it a miss? A little risk is always fun! :~)

Are there still ice cream trucks in LA?
We live in Lomita (near Torrance) and the ice cream truck comes by everyday around 6 PM and like David K said it just makes you grin. Unless the music goes on and on and on and on because the whole neighborhood is there :)
Finally hit Mozza (with pics)!!
We were there recently had the chicken liver crostini which everyone loved. The mozzerella capreze - yummy,
Pizza -
Sausage - great everything we hoped for
Squash blossom pizza - I enjoyed the taste and presentation
Funghi pizza - I might have been missing something but it was just a mushroom pizza to me
We took an order of the Cambozola and potato pizza home - asked for it to be slightly under cooked and reheated in the oven - which was great
Butterscotch pudding.. oh my gosh-fantastic
All in all a great experience.. the only ummm question that came up were the napkins. I thought the presentation was fun and clever but the quality of napkin was sub-par. We all felt the same way and my napkin was sliced due to the knife -
Anyone else share the same experience???
