Calgary Night Out

I recently had a group lunch at Brigg’s private dining room (it’s enclosed by glass near the kitchen and so it has the advantage of being quieter but, at the same time, it is not closed off from the rest of the restaurant) and I thought it was very good.

If you’re looking for further action later in the evening, Craft Beer Hall and The National are just down the street. The National, in addition to being a good bar, has a bowling alley in the basement which is always good for a laugh.
The only thing I would add is that although Brigg’s is a very good casual restaurant it probably doesn’t rise to the level of upscale. I guess, at the end of the day, it depends on your definition of ‘upscale’.

One lunch in Calgary

I would second the Sait downtown campus. Depending on your mood, you can choose from a wide variety of good lunch options at a very reasonable price.

Casual Restaurant Recommendation

I'm going to be in LA towards the end of the month on a business trip and at some point I would like to take my cousin, who lives in Redondo Beach, for dinner and drinks. The problem is I'm going to be staying at the Westin downtown and so it would be great if someone could recommend a good casual restaurant that we could meet at somewhere in the middle? By casual, I mean nothing too fancy, lively and fun atmosphere with great cuisine. Speaking of cuisine, American, Asian or Mexican would be great.
Thanks!

Calgary - Best Fish and Chips

I'm not sure it is the best but the F&Cs at Big Fish are quite good.

Old school Dublin

Thanks very much BG!
One further question. My father came across "The Lobster Pot", any thoughts?

Cheers,
Hart

Old school Dublin

I appreciate this question maybe paradoxical but my sisters and I are taking my father(born and raised Dubliner whose idea of a great meal is grilled fillet of plaice, roast potatoes and peas) on a return trip to Dublin and I was wondering if someone can recommend a couple of great old school restaurants.
In the past, we've had mixed success at the Guinea Pig in Dalkey.
Thanks in advance

Ashford Castle-George V Restaurant

Thanks, archaic indeed. I guess I'll have to decide when I get there.

Ashford Castle-George V Restaurant

Has anyone eaten recently in Ashford Castle's George V dining room?
I ask because they require a jacket and tie and I'm wondering if it is worth the effort to dress up for dinner.
Thanks in advance.

5-7 days in Alberta

Whist in the Lake Louise area give "Truffle Pigs" a try. It is a few miles down the road in small town called Field, BC.

Fergus & Bix - Marda Loop - YYC

Thanks for the report, obviously an improvement over the previous establishment.
BTW, Burgerquest gives the burgers a pretty good rating.

I guess I'm getting confused. What's the name of its sister in Marda Loop?

best pizza in calgary?

I gather a "Spiros" family feud created a split thereby producing Sophies in addition to Spiros and so I was wondering how the two compare?

Dinner with friends

While in NYC next week I'm going to be meeting friends for dinner and I was wondering if anyone could recomend either a great "red sauce" Italian restaurant or a French Bistro with the following criteria.

-most entrees below $20;
-lively atmosphere;
-although I am staying on the UWS, location is not terribly important.

Thanks!

Kid friendly wing nite in Calgary??

It may not be terribly kid friendly but the Redwater Grill in Bow Valley Square has recently put wings on the menu and they are great. Perhaps the other Redwaters have added them as well.

The elusive search for a great sandwich and soup restaurant (Calgary)

It doesn't fit exactly what your looking for (no tables and not sure if they are open on the weekend) but I quite enjoy the soups and sandwiches at Rise in Bow Valley Square. My only complaint is that sometimes their soups are not as hot as they should be. BTW, the lack of seating can be rectified by going up to the +15 level.

Beltline area Calgary

They might be a little more expensive than the other restos mentioned but a block East of the Ship is Cilantro and across the street from Melrose (roughly 17th Ave and 7th Street) is Brava Bistro.

Canadian Hound visiting Boston

Thanks! Sorry for not being more specific as I know comparisons can be odious. I guess I am looking for some help with the best Boston has to offer in terms of tasting menus with an emphasis on either French or seafood.

Canadian Hound visiting Boston

Hi all,
I'll be visiting Boston next week and I was wondering if the Boston Hounds could please recommend a couple of high end restaurants with great tasting menus? Although I'll be staying at the Lennox I am quite prepared to take a cab.
To give some context, I was in NYC this past Spring and had a couple of fabulous evenings at Jean Georges and Le Bernadin and so I'm looking for something along those lines.

Thanks,
H
