Smoked Meat

I guess I'm getting confused. What's the name of its sister in Marda Loop?

Smoked Meat

Palace of Eats down in the Beltline is pretty good as well.

Thank you very much!

Buying a Carving Fork-YYC

Does anyone know where I can buy a good carving fork in Calgary?

Thanks,

Very good restaurant in Calgary?

I would concur with your recomendations.

best pizza in calgary?

I gather a "Spiros" family feud created a split thereby producing Sophies in addition to Spiros and so I was wondering how the two compare?

Roasting Chicken in YYC

Does anyone have any recomendations for a place in Calgary to buy a great organic, free range roasting chicken?

Dinner with friends

Thank you very much for your suggestions!

Dinner with friends

While in NYC next week I'm going to be meeting friends for dinner and I was wondering if anyone could recomend either a great "red sauce" Italian restaurant or a French Bistro with the following criteria.

-most entrees below $20;
-lively atmosphere;
-although I am staying on the UWS, location is not terribly important.

Thanks!

Kid friendly wing nite in Calgary??

It may not be terribly kid friendly but the Redwater Grill in Bow Valley Square has recently put wings on the menu and they are great. Perhaps the other Redwaters have added them as well.

Looking for suggestions here...

My go to cracker is Jacob's Cream Crackers.

Tasting menus in Calgary

Thanks, it sounds like they haven't missed a beat despite Chabot's departure.

Tasting menus in Calgary

Hsk, as a matter of interest how was Il Sogno? i haven't been there for some time.

The elusive search for a great sandwich and soup restaurant (Calgary)

It doesn't fit exactly what your looking for (no tables and not sure if they are open on the weekend) but I quite enjoy the soups and sandwiches at Rise in Bow Valley Square. My only complaint is that sometimes their soups are not as hot as they should be. BTW, the lack of seating can be rectified by going up to the +15 level.

Beltline area Calgary

They might be a little more expensive than the other restos mentioned but a block East of the Ship is Cilantro and across the street from Melrose (roughly 17th Ave and 7th Street) is Brava Bistro.

Canadian Hound visiting Boston

Thanks! Sorry for not being more specific as I know comparisons can be odious. I guess I am looking for some help with the best Boston has to offer in terms of tasting menus with an emphasis on either French or seafood.

Canadian Hound visiting Boston

Hi all,
I'll be visiting Boston next week and I was wondering if the Boston Hounds could please recommend a couple of high end restaurants with great tasting menus? Although I'll be staying at the Lennox I am quite prepared to take a cab.
To give some context, I was in NYC this past Spring and had a couple of fabulous evenings at Jean Georges and Le Bernadin and so I'm looking for something along those lines.

Thanks,
H

2 nights in Calgary - recommendations please

I would concur.

caterers in Calgary

Sorry, it just occurred to me that 25 people could be considered a big event. I had in my mind a big event of 100's of people.

caterers in Calgary

Hmm, that would be too bad if they are only doing big events. Perhaps it is a recent policy as they did a cocktails/dinner buffet party this past May at my place for about 25 people.

Thanksgiving Dinner in Calgary?

Along the same line I believe Fresh Kitchen does the same thing. Although I have not tried their Turkey Dinner specifically their food is usually very good.

caterers in Calgary

They maybe more than you are looking for but Devour Catering did a very good job for me this summer.

Calgary Tower -Good, Bad or Ugly?

Sorry for being off topic but have you been back to Il Sogno since Chabot's departure?

Supper at Rush - Calgary

Thanks for the report. As a matter of interest, was it very busy?

NYC Culinary Trip

Thanks very much for your suggestions! I appreciate GT is not French but it seems like such a popular and much loved NYC icon that I thought I would throw it into the mix. I was thinking of going to Daniel but it seems to get mixed reviews notwithstanding its pedigree. I also considered Per Se but I couldn't get a reservation. Oh well, that only means I will have to try it on my next visit.
As for lunch, I think I will give La Grenouille, Scalini Fedeli and Convivio a try. Thanks again!

NYC Culinary Trip

Dear NYC Hounds,
I am returning to your great city in a couple of weeks obstensibly for a five day fantasy culinary trip and have made dinner reservations at the following restaurants: Veritas; EMP; Jean Georges; Gramercy Tavern; and Le Bernadin. As you will note, there is quite a French bias which is based on my love for the cuisine and the fact that unfortunately where I live (Calgary, Canada) there is a dearth of great French restaurants. I also love other cuisines but my focus this trip is mainly French and Italian which leads me my question.
I have three openings for lunch and have narrowed my choices to the following restaurants and I was wondering if you would so kind as to give me your opinions on same.

The Modern-Dining room
La Grenouille
Scalini Fedeli
Convivio
Bouley
Gotham Bar and Grill
Lupa
Maze

Thanks so much.

Veritas, Eleven Madison Park & Gramercy Tavern

Thanks very much RGR, this is very helpful. I think you might be onto something about splitting my evening between GT and Veritas.

Cheers!

Veritas, Eleven Madison Park & Gramercy Tavern

Hello all,
I'm going to be NYC in April for a couple of nights and I have narrowed my choices to Veritas, Eleven Madison Park and Gramercy Tavern. I will be dining solo and I was wondering of the three which two would present the best solo dining experience? It has also occurred to me that EMP and GT are both Danny Meyer restaurants and so maybe choosing those two restaurants at the expense of Veritas would be redundant, Anyway, any advice concerning the foregoing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

river cafe, still one of the best?

I would entirely concur. Admittedly, River Cafe has the best ambience in the city but I have never had a steller evening there. There are a number of other restaurants in town IHMO that are far superior.
