NEW CONCEPT"S AND CHAIN'S IN AUSTIN!!!!

I wouldn't cry any tears if Milo's opened up shop in Austin. Better than 90% or our local burger outfits.

Goat Tacos In Austin Texas

1] La Fruta Feliz, have a hard time seeing someone beat them for quality

2] El Borrego de Oro, love the mutton here but have never had the goat

3] Taco More, loved them when they were next door to Kebab Palace [wish I knew what happened to that chef-best rice I ever ate in a restaurant] but have only visited the new location a couple times. Thanks for the tip Joe Mac

4] A buddy of mine saw this post and called me and said he's getting his goat fix up on Anderson Mill at a rundown little dive restaurant called Taqueria Zacatlan...sounds promising.

5] Another friend saw the post and mentioned a goat taco cart parked next to the Mexican flea market on 290 ten minutes east of Austin

Goat Tacos In Austin Texas

After eating a brace of goat tacos at La Fruta Feliz this week it set me to thinking.

Are there 7 places in Austin serving goat tacos?

Where are y'all going to get your goat fix these days?

And if you're on the East Side, La Fruta Feliz is straight "A" game these days.

Heading Back To New Orleans: Ponderosa Stomp at Howlin Wolf

Double morning cup: Sound Cafe, very cool little bookstore coffeeshop and tranquil to boot.

Cafe Rose Nicaud, good cup and great hanging out with the old timers from nearby Christopher House

Domenica, third visit. Oxtails and fried chicken livers and more redfish from the plancha. Best kitchen in NOLA?

Bar Tonique: So glad this place is not in Austin I would be a raging alcoholic. Best Dark n Stormy I ever had

Euclid Records: Vast vinyl selection and Lightnin Lee concert.

Buffa's: off night, good but not great burger, seemed like it may have been hit with a lil teriyaki

Just a few more hours, time for Li'l Dizzys, a drink, Terranova's for a family pack of to go sausages then back to squaresville aka Austin.

Thanks for all the tips, great trip

Heading Back To New Orleans: Ponderosa Stomp at Howlin Wolf

Morning cup courtesy of Orange Couch, nice, quiet little joint in the Marigny.
Lunch at Jack Dempseys,ss crab haven extraordinaire.
Digestif at Markey's bar, a long time favorite that's gotten a little sports bar-y.
Bar Tonique and Capdeville for Dark n Stormy's
eleven 79 for a first, soft shells sauteed, delicious
What other dishes are good at this restaurant?
Final night of Stomp was spectacular with 88 yr old Big Jay McNeely killing it-worked the room like a master.
Then Westbanks own Joe Clay got up and went nuts!
A good night of octogenarian rock.
I hope if I make it to 80 I can holler "GET IT CATS GET IT" and have everybody singing along.
2 days of crab eating to go before the return to the land of brisket.
What are the finest sausages at Terranova's?
I'm taking a few pounds back and would like some guidance.
Thanks y'all

September 2011: Soft shell crab update

On Hazelhurts rec I tried the ss crab saute' at eleven 79 last night.
Incredible.
The medium crab sat in a boozy butter sauce and was topped with lump crab.
Went traditional at Jack Dempsey's and got two fried with a tub of the best mac n cheese in NOLA.
Unreal.

Mr. B's delivered a plump softshell for 20 bucks. It needed seasoning but was fresh and in a good butter sauce.

Asparagus was superfluous.

Heading Back To New Orleans: Ponderosa Stomp at Howlin Wolf

Morning: Cake cafe in the Marigny for good coffee and the Times Pic.

Mr. B's softshells were fine but lacking that fire that makes the difference between great and merely good.

Green Goddess puts out one of the better Dark n Stormys but the price is absurd $11.

Frank was looking good at Evelyn's Place, he must be 90 years old by now.

Tujagues' was gross. I planned on having an app and a cocktail but the restaurant needed cleaning so bad I walked out. This was one of the first "nice" NOLA restaurants I went to when I was a teen so it was sad to see the old girl being treated like that.

Dissolute.

Corporation Bar however is a neighborhood jewel. Good looking menu, kitchen closes at 5 so I didn't get to try it though, but the barkeep was friendly and all the regulars embraced me.

Howlin Wolf is maybe a fourth as nice as last years' Stomp venue, House of Blues. PA was decent but just the chance to see Allen Toussant in a small place made it all worthwhile. Warren Storm's a big ham, loved CP Love and Frogman Henry.

Late night meal at Verti Marte. It was actually gross, the first bad food I've ever gotten there. Perhaps a cup of mayo rendered my oyster po boy inedible. And I love the stuff.

Probably a novice cook.

Thanks for all the recs y'all

They're back according to my inn keep.

Looking for the best ones.

Heading Back To New Orleans: Ponderosa Stomp at Howlin Wolf

On a nice long hike out of the Marigny Harry's Corner always provides a good pitstop for cold beer and conversation with the regs.

Domenica has shouldered it's way to the top of the NOLA restaurant world.

Two course for $20: Date/pecan pesto topped fresh ricotta with grilled bread and a big hunk of redfish from the plancha w/olives and ceci puree.

Phenomenal. One of the best meals I've ever had in town.

Can't imagine anyone serving a better Dark n Stormy than Tonique.

Aunt Tikki's is always good and boisterous and has dirt cheap bottles of Chimay.

Cosimos [est. 1934] was a riot of LSU faithful hooten n hollerin.

Checkpoint for more ice cold cheap abitas and good people watching.

DBA, newly remodeled, was on fire with a bunch of squares from some conference scrapping for bar space with the soul/rnb crowd there for the 45 party.

Ten top djs spinning 45s for 30 minutes apiece.
Only the fattest slabs.

Verti Marte's back and in full force. Giant 12" po boy, shrimp, out of oysters at 4 in the morning.

Good as ever.

Day one done.

Onto day two.

Still real curious about Joe Sepie's?

and Mike Serio's?
